Born August 9 1892, in Paris, Tenn., she was married October 15, 1911, to the late George Wells who preceded her in death July 3, 1945. She was a member of the Church of God for 39 years. Among the survivors are three daughters, Mrs., Pauline Johnson, Oak Lawn, Ill.;, Mrs. Dempsey Wills, Poplar Bluff and Mrs. Charity Price, Haines City, Fla., and five sons, Doyle, Golden, J. M. and Donald Wells, all of St. Louis, and Lowell Wells, Poplar Bluff Funeral services were conducted at Little Vine Church, Broseley, at 2 o'clock on the afternoon of May 21. The Rev. Leonard Collard officiated and burial was in the Mole Hill Cemetery at Broseley under the direction of the Landess Funeral Home, Campbell. (second obit same person) WELLS Nora M. Mrs. Nora M. Wells, 67 year old former resident of Poplar Bluff and Qulin, died yesterday afternoon at the Assembly of God Rest Home in Poplar Bluff. She was the widow of George Wells who died in 1945. Survivors include three daughters: Mrs. Pauline Johnson of Oak Lawn, Ill., Mrs Dempsey Wells of Poplar Bluff and Mrs. Charity Price of Haines, City Fla.; five sons Doyle, Golden, J.M. and Donald Wells, all of St. Louis, adn Lowell Wells of Poplar Bluff; 19 grandchildren and a great grandchild. Teh body was taken to the Landess Funeral Home of Campbell where it will remain until time for services. Arrangements are incomplete but services probably will be held tomorrow afternoon. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RAMBRUGER, Mamie Resident of Fisk, died at her home Mamie Ramburger, 59, of Fisk, died at 4:30 am. today at her home. She had been in ill health for 18 years. She was born on Nov. 24, 1908, at Fisk, and was a life-long Butler county resident. In 1925, she was married to Robert Ramburger at Piggott, Ark. He survives. She was a member of the Baptist Chruch. Survivors, in addition to her husband, include her mother, Snowie Wells of Fisk; one brother, Chester Wells of Broseley; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral plans are incomplete and will be announced later by the family. Watkins and Sons of Dexter are in charge of the arrangements. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- JONES, couple killed in accident Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. James Lee Jones, Rt. 1, Qulin, who were killed Sunday in a highway accident, will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Broseley High School Gymnaisum. The Rev. Odgen Coats adn teh Rev. Robert Neace will officiate. The Greer Croy and Fitch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements The bodies will lie in state at the funeral chapel until noon Wednesday when they will be moved to Broseley. (NOTE mh; not year date is given in this notice) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GILLESPIE, Ben Died Yestersay at Mt. Vernon John Benjamin Gillespie, resident of Poplar Bluff for nearly 40 years, died at the State Hospital in Mt. Vernon late Yesterday afternoon. He was 47. Ben Gillespie, had been in the hospital more than two years for treatment of lung disorder. Other complications brought about his death, however, His wife was at his bedside when he died. A brother, Charles Gillespie, local merchant, and a sister, Mrs. J.C. Allen now of Nashville, were with him earlier in the week but they returned here when the sick man appeared to be considerably improved. Gillespie was born March 20, 1905 at Holly Grove, Ark. For the past several years he had been employed by Charles Mussell, Aufdenberg's and other trucking companies and was known by many persons in Poplar Bluff. The body was being returned to Poplar Bluff today and will be at the Greer Croy and Fitch parlors where funeral services will be held at 2:30 Monday afternoon. Burial will be in Cochran cemetery. The Rev. Wm. S. Smelser will conduct final rites. Besides his widow, brother and sister, Gillespie leaves four children, Donald Gillespie in the Army Air Force; Mrs. Marna Rhea Davis of Houston, Texas, Elizabeth Ann and Adeline Gillespie at home. Vernon, were held at 2:30 yesterday afternoon at the Greer Croy and Fitch Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Wm. S. Smelser officiated, and burial was in Cochran Cemetery. Pall bearers were: Gordie White, Geroge Greer, Ira Winton, Leo Heaton, Louis Boyet, Sam Knight. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HILL, Howard A child was killed an nine persons injured in accidents in the Southeast Missouri district yesterday and last night. Howard Norden Hill, four years old son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hill of Route two, Qulin, was killed when struck by a car in the yard of his home yesterday afternoon.--------- ----details are being omitted here ---------- The child is survived by his parents, two brothers, Danny and Gordon and the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Hill of Route one, Fisk, and Mr. and Mrs. George Norden of Route one, Broseley. Mrs. Hill is a teacher atthe Live Oak school. Funeral services will be conducted at teh Frank-Cotrell Chapel at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon. H.B. Hooker will officiate at the services and burial will be in the Brown Chapel Cemetery near Broseley. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LOCKLEY, Joseph Funeral services for Joseph Elsworth Lockley, 87, Route 1 Fisk, who died October 15, in the Poplar Bluff Hosiptal, will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the Pleasant Hill General Baptist Church. the Rev. Woodrow Peck will officate and burial will be in the Mole Hill Cemetery under the direction of White's Funeral Home. Born Oct. 13, 1872, at Marion Ill., he married November 26, 1910, at Campbell MO. He was a resident of Butler county for 41 years, coming here from Dunklin county. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill General Baptist Church. Among the survivors are one son, wilbur Lockley, Columbia, Ill.; three daughters, Mrs. Louise Taylor, eldorado, Ill.; Mrs. Stella Spurlock and Mrs. Evelyn McCluskey, both of Fisk. Wilbert Allen, Route 5, Poplar Bluff. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MARTIN, Tommy Is a victim of a car accident Specialist 4-c Tommy Lester Martin, 20 year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Martin of Fisk. Died yesterday at the Veterans Hospital in Alexandria, La. From injuries received in a car accident last Saturday night. He was stationed at Fort Polk, La and was along in his car when the accident occurred. He entered the Army January 1957 following graduation in May 1957 from Fisk High School. He had served one year in Iceland. He was born January 15, 1939 at Fisk and had been a lifetime resident of tat community. Surviving are the parents; two sisters, Mrs. Sally Zumwalt of West Plains and Barbara Martin at home. Funeral services will be at 2:30 Sunday at the Star Community Church near Rombauer. Burial will be in the Shain Memorial Cemetery. The Rev. Chester Hamm will officiate. The Body will arrive here at 6:45 p.m. today and will be taken to the White Chapel in Fisk where it will remain until time for the services. [Photo] (on the mail obituary page you will find Tommy's photograph) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SHAIN, Verlin Resolution of Respect Adopted for Verlin Shain The Mayor and City Council of Fisk have adopted resolutions of respect for the late Verlin Shain, who died Aug. 1 of a heart condition. RESOLUTIONS "WHEREAS, our good friend and associate, Verlin Shain, was called to his reward on 1st day of August 1955, and "WHEREAS, Mr. Shain was known to us to be a man of sterling qualities, high moral character, and a very good citizen of the community for which he gave much of his time and efforts, not only while a member of the town council, but in any community betterment program and "WHEREAS, Mr. Shain was considered by us and by others in the community as one of this communities outstanding citizens, "BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED that we, the Mayor and Aldermen of Fisk, Mo., feel that Mr. Shain’s untimely death was a distinct loss to the Fisk city council, and the entire community as well as to his devoted family, and "BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of these resolutions of respect be placed in the minutes of the permanent records of the town of Fisk, and that a copy be sent to the bereaved family with our condolences. Wilson 320 North Riverview Drive, died yesterday at her home. She was 73 years old. Born in Coxburg, Tenn., March 6 1888, she had been a resident of Butler County for 22 years, moving here from Broseley. She was a member of the Broseley Missionary Baptist Church. In 1905 she was married to the late Thomas J. Crowell who preceded her in death in 1940. In October 1944, she was married to Ralph Wilson who survives. Also remaining are the following children" William M. Crowell, Broseley; Mrs. Laura Gragg, Detroit, Mich.; Mrs Nora Lee Marshall, Poplar Bluff; Allen Crowell, Phoenix Ariz.; S.b. Crowell, Jennings, MO.; two step-sons, Lloyd Wilson, Granite City, Ill., and Eugene Wilson, Poplar Bluff; one brother, Charlie Hooten, St. Louis, and a sister, Mrs. Florence Crowell, Camden, TN. There are 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Broseley Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. John Phillips will officiate and burial will be in the Mole Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Watkins & Sons Chapel. The body will be returned to the family home today. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HALL, Bertha Mae Mrs. Bertha Mae Hall, 73, a resident of 229 Barlett Street, died at 1:20 yesterday afternoon in the Doctors Hospital following a six-hear illness. A resident of the county 54 years, she was born Sept, 33, 1880 in Redwood, Mo. Among the survivors are her husband, Robert Hall; children, Mrs. Della Spreul, Benton Harbor Mich.,; Mrs. Dorothy Hennig, Oakland Calif.; Mrs. Wanda Wright, St. Louis; Jackson Rhodes, Benton Harbor, Mich., Charles Hall, Benton, Harbor. Mich.,; W. H. Shumate, Portageville; 26 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; two brothers, Jim Wilmont, residence unknown, and Roy Wilmont, Leadwood; three sisters, Miss Bessie Wilmont, Oakland, Calif.; Mrs., Nellie Framer, St. Louis, and Miss Eva. Wilmont, St. Louis; three step-sons, Ernest Raleigh, George and Rosco Raleigh, all of St. Louis. Funeral services will be at 2:30 tomorrow afternoon in the Greer Croy and Fitch Funeral Chapel with the Rev. N.E. Hicks officiating. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the chapel until funeral time.
