Melton - Verlin H. 'Buddy" Melton, 75, of Qulin, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at the St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis. Mr. Melton was born May 5, 1925, in Broseley and was affiliated with the Baptist faith. He was a retired farmer, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Post 494 in Qulin and the Veterans Honor Guard of Poplar Bluff. He was married to Flossie Goodman. She preceded him in death April 7, 1978. Survivors include two sons, Todd Kelly of Qulin and Jeff Kelly of Bloomington, Ill.; two brothers, Ernest Melton of St. Louis and Jimmy Melton of Poplar Bluff; two sisters, Millie Hagner and Alpha Blake, both of St. Louis; and four grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Landess Funeral Chapel in Campbell. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Allen Leuterter officiating. Burial will be in the Qulin Cemetery in Qulin. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Violet Ledbetter Funeral services for Mrs. Violet Mae Ledbetter, of Qulin will be conducted at 10 a.m. at the Landess Chapel Campbell. Burial will be at the Gravel Hill Cemetery at St. Francis Ar. with Landess Funeral Home of Campbell in charge of the arrangements. The daughter of William Thomas and Anna Lee HENDRIX Fischer, she was born Jan 2. 1915 in Brighton AR. she was married to William Patrick Ledbetter who survives. Mrs. Ledbetter died Thrusday at the Doctors hospital in Poplar Bluff at the age of 59. Survivors include her husband William Ledbetter of Qulin, two daughters Dorothy Ann Kenhans and Gwendolyn Weston both of Qulin. ; Six sons: W.C. Dacus, Robert Ledbetter and Allen Ledbetter of Granite City, Ill., David Dacus of Spanish Lake, MO. Richard Ledbetter of Ferguson, MO., and Kenneth Ledbetter of Robinson , Illinois. Stepmother Rosemary Moore, St. Louis, Three step daughters, Junental DeGeare of High Ridge, MO. Patricia (Patsy) Walton of Annapolis and Mary Agnes Hudson of Pomona CA. One step son William H. (Sonny) Ledbetter of St. Louis. two half brothers, Herbert and Walter Fischer and a half sister Helen Herbert all of St. Louis. 29 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Visitation began today at the Landess Funeral home in Campbell. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LEDBETTER, ERNEST ZANDER (BILL) Qulin Services have been set for Ernest (Bill) Ledbetter 77 years- of-age, of Qulin, who died at 2:30 a.m. Thrusday, upon arrival at Doctors Regional Medical Center. The funeral will be at 2 p.j. Saturday in Landess Funeral Home in Campbell. The Rev. Jeff Hefner will officiate. With burial in the Qulin Cemetery. Mr. Ledbetter was a retired carpenter. A lifetime Butler Countian. He was born August 10, 1907. He was of the Baptist faith and was a veteran of World War II. He was married to Ruby Wynn on March 3, 1926, in Poplar Bluff, and she survives. Other surviving include one sister Phoebe Sedrick of Tucson Ariz. and one brother William Patrick (Pat) Ledbetter of Qulin and several nieces and nephews. Visitation has been set for 6 p.m. today at the Landess Funeral home Campbell ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mozell Dovie Burress was born in Qulin in 1913, she was the youngest daughter of Lee Ota JACOBS Burress, and Benjamin Burress. Benjamin Burress was a log train engineer. Benjamin died in 1948 at abt age 64. He is buried in Broseley Lee Ota died in Wynnburg, TN at the age of 54. Together they had four daughters , Loxie, Opal, Flossie, and Mozell, along with one son Benjamin Syolvester Burress. Mozell died in 1991, she is buried in Gridley, California. She was Mozell Dovie Pollard at the time of her death. This informations is submitted to this site by the son of Mozell. Dr. Dr. William Harden Burton, 73, formerly active physician who served his profession in St. Genevieve, Carter and Butler counties, and a resident of 1239 North Grand avenue, died at 3:15 this morning at his home, He had been ill for the past six weeks and had been a resident of Butler county for the past 16 years, coming here from Van Buren. Born Dec. 26, 1886 in Clay County, Ill., he graduated from the University of Southern Illinois in 1918, and received his B.S. and M.D. degrees from the old Barnes University in St. Louis. He was married June 26, 1934, to the former Miss Lona Dipinger at Fredericktown. He was a member of the First Christian Church. In addition to his wife he leaves one daughter, Mrs. Tom Spiers, Jr., Memphis, Tenn.; two sons Robert L. of Paloma, Calif., and Richard H. Burton, Boston Mass.; two grandchildren and two brothers, the Rev. Homer Burton, Mahomat, Ill, and Rollo Burton, Louisville, Ill. He was a member of the Naval Medical Reserve and a veteran of World War I. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Greer Croy and Fitch Funeral Chapel. Dr. C.E.A. McKim, pastor of the First Christian Church, will officiate and burial will be in the Advance Cemetery. (photo) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - REEVES, Carlton Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today in White's Funeral Chapel at Fisk for Carlton "Top" Reeves, 56, of Rombauer, who died in City Hospital in St. Louis, Saturday. He had been a resident of Butler county most of his life. He was born on May 31, 1910, at Fisk, and married Lena Odom in 1930 in Poplar Bluff. He is survived by two sons, Carlton Reeves, Jr., of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Billie Reeves, St. Louis; two daughters, Mrs. Peggy Ann Hefner, Granite City; and Mrs. Wreathia Geraldine Sutton, Holly Hills, Fla.; one brother, Dee Reeves of St. Louis; one sister, Caroline Rice, Ypsilanti, Mich., and eight grandchildren. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery with the Rev. Chester Ham Officiating. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- TEETER, Charity Mrs. Charity Teeter, 53, died early today in the Doctors Hospital here following a recent illness. She had been a resident of the county for the past 17 years, living on Route 1, Poplar Bluff, near the Pine Cone. Born July 19, 1905, at Batesville, Ark., she was married Oct. 17, 1925, to the Rev. Jesse L. Teeter, as Assembly of God minister. She was a member of the Assemble of God Church. In addition to her husband, she leaves two daughters, Mrs. Jessie Merineh, Simmering, San Franisco. Calif., and Mrs. Pansy Lee Deason, Poplar Bluff, her mother, Mrs. Hattie Rich. Hendrickson; three sisters, Mrs. Edith Buchanan, Madison, Ill., Mrs. Golda Ahner, Belgrade, and Mrs. Daisy Cassidy, Granite City, Ill.; a step-brother, Evert Rich Canton' two step- sisters, Mrs. Vernest Jones, Siloam Springs Ark., and Mrs. Gertrude Kinnson, St. Louis, and a half-sister, Mrs. Geraldine Hoover, Granite City, Ill. Funeral services will be held 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon the Assembly of God Church 618 Lester Street. The Rev. H. Lawson, the Rev.. Lester B** Doniphan, and the Rev. D. Love, Van Buren, will officiate and burial will be in Memorial Gardens under the direction of the Green Croy and Fitch Funeral Chapel.
