BOWMAN CEMETERY, Caldwell Co., MO Hamilton Township -- Section 2, Township 57, Range 28 Located: on west side of gravel road, 2 1/2 miles north of the shoe factory in Hamilton, Missouri. The donor of the land for the Bowman Cemetery was Vincent Bowman. He owned a farm just within the Caldwell County limits, which accounts for so many Daviess County people being buried there. The first burial was Cecelia Bowman (1848-1867), daughter of Wm. and Sarah (Sallie) A. Bowman and the earliest birth date is that of Vincent, himself (1793-1872). His first wife had died before they came here. His 2nd wife, Martha Ong Bowman (1810-1886) lies in an unmarked grave, dying after he did. Lying beside her is a sister, Sarah Ann Ong Wood (1818-1887). They died within a few days of each other, one at the end of a year, the other at the beginning of the next year. Another early family was the Borden family. They settled in Caldwell County in 1867 but moved over into Daviess County before 1870. They were the parents of Geo. Borden of Hamilton. Alfred Distelli was a Swiss Colonist to Mn. who came to Caldwell County, Mo. in the rush of 1869. His wife and two children died very close together in 1878. There were eight children left. A romance by letter sprang up between him and a young widow in Switzerland who crossed the ocean and they were married in Hamilton. Soon, afterward, he sold his 160 A. for $10.00 an A. and moved back to Mn. The pioneer Neals are buried here: Wm. (1817-1889) and Margaret, who came to Daviess County in the 1860's. Also, his son Thos. & wife lie here. Jack Neal was a son of Thos. and married Minnie Sergeant, a daughter of David and Caroline Sergeant, who along with two children are buried at the Bowman Cemetery. However, David and Caroline's stones were moved at a later date to the new Hamilton Cemetery. Five children belonging to Snyder and Charlotte Neal were burnt to death, Nov. 21, 1896, while their parents were away from home, visiting neighbors. They are buried at the Bowman Cemetery, along with their parents. Sources: Interviews done by Major Molly D.A.R. 1933-1934 Records of Elmer E.
