Marriage Book C, p. 174 STATE OF MISSOURI, COUNTY OF CALDWELL THIS LICENSE, authorized any judge, justice of the peace, licensed or ordained preacher of the gospel, or other person, authorized under the laws of the State, to solemnize marriage between John Goodwin of Sheridan Twsp., County of Daviess and State of Missouri who is over the age of twenty-one years, and Miss Martha Givens of _____in the County of Daviess and State of Missouri who is over the age of eighteen years. Bratcher a minister of the Gospel did, at the residence of Mr. Goodwin in said County, on the 26th day of December A.D. 1882, unite in marriage the above named persons M. Love Recorder Additional Comments: Martha Givens Goodwin was the youngest child of Merrit Givens and Nancy Allen Givens of Daviess Co., Mo. You can see further records on this Givens family under the Daviess Co., Mo. USgenweb Archives. Martha was known as Aunt Mat to all of her neices and nephews. They lived in Daviess Co., Mo., and their farm bordered the farm of Martha's mother, Nancy Givens. In 1906, John and Martha, along with Martha's brother Isaac Givens and family, went to Oklahoma by buggy and wagon to homestead near Kendrick, Oklahoma. John and Martha lost 3 of their sons in the flu epidemic of 1919. John and Martha returned to Missouri several years later and lived in Birmingham, Clay Co., Mo. John and Martha are buried at the Minneville Cemetery, Clay Co., Mo. I have a certified copy of this marriage license in my possession.
