Black Walnut Virg. 20th May 1874 Mr. John E. Irvin Dear Cousin, Altho a stranger to you, I take the liberty of writing you in a matter which concerns both your families and mine. I have reference to the death of Uncle Thornton which took place soon after last Christmas. He left us no will, and my Father being the only living brother, I went out to Tennessee to see the appointing of an administrator &c, but before I reached Brownsville the estate had been put in the hands of one J. L. Weaver who is now getting up all the heirs he can for the purpose of entering a chancery suit for division by sale of the property of Uncle Thornton Earley die? I would be glad for you to write immediately to J. L. Weaver, Brownsville, Tennessee and give him the names and residences of all your Mother's children, or grandchildren as the case may be if the parents of the grandchildren should have died. Also tell him what you know of any of the Davenports of Georgia. I mean those who are of our family. We haven't been able to get a single address of them, and do not know where to find them. I would like to hear from you in reply to this. I am the 3d son of Hy. Earley Sr. - your Uncle - have been about six months married to a daughter of Thos. E. Owen, who is our common first cousin. Yours truly, Henry Earley Jr. All of our Virg. relatives are getting along tolerably well in the world, tho our State is really in a bad condition, as is every Southern state. I hope you will give me all news, and a report of our relatives out in Mo. Very truly yours, Henry Earley Jr. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Wayne E. Johnson (© 2003 Wayne E.
