Jefferson City MO, Dec 17...Near Bakersville, Calloway Co, nine miles from this city, at noon yesterday, Miss Louisa Epperson, daughter of a wealthy farmer, shot and killed Julius Hofer, a young German farm hand, as he sat at her father's table eating his dinner, because he teased her too much about an admirer. The news of the tragedy was brought here last evening by a brother of the murdered man, a boy about 18 years of age and an eye witness of the killing. Hofer, the brother said, was employed by Epperson, who is an extensive farmer and stock raiser, and had been in the habit of teasing the girl about her admirers and one in particular, Philip Akerson, who called Sunday afternoon and spent several hours with her. At the breakfast table yesterday morning he began twitting her about this young man and made some allusion which caused her to become very angry, when she told him that if he repeated that remark she would shoot him. Hofer promised to refrain, but at the dinner table began again on the same subject, and in the same strain, when the girl, without a word, left the table, walked deliberately into another room, picked up a 38 caliber revolver and returnign to the dining room shot Hofer. The ball entered the right side of his head near the temple, and he fell to the floor dead. Miss Epperson is known to several persons in this city and they describe her as an unusually attractive country girl, nineteen years old. Her father is a well-to-do man and the family is regareded as one of the best in Callaway county. Additional Comments: Louisa B. Epperson appears to be daughter of Abner T. Epperson and Amanda D. Oliver??? Phillip Akerson may be Philip Thomas Adkinson who lives 9 houses away in 1880 census?
