Wheeler according to his war records, enlisted in the 3rd Reg't Missouri State Militia Cavalry , March 27, 1862. At Decatur, Iowa. Place of residence at time of enlistment Decatur County, Iowa. Mustered in April 03, 1862 at Chillicothe, Missouri. Another place on his record state enlistment Princeton, Missouri by H.J. Stanley for duration of war in Missouri. He was discharged at Jefferson City , Missouri November 03, 1863 by order of General Brown. His received disability discharge. For Paralysis of the left arm (complete) which originated from a decease of the heart.
