Carroll County, Missouri Biography - David Reed b. 1794 Source: My great great great grandfather, David Reed, lived in Carroll county and perhaps had been in that part of Ray County that "moved". David Reed was born 10 Jan 1794 in Berkeley County, Virginia and died 26 April 1853. He married 31 December. 1820 in Montgomery County (now Warren) Missouri, to Mary "Polly" Bryan, daughter of Henry Bryan and Elizabeth Sparks, daughter of Jonas Sparks and Rebecca Enochs. Henry Bryan was the son of James Bryan, co-founder of Bryan's Station, Ky., and grandson of Morgan Bryan and Martha Strode. David Reed had been a soldier in the War of 1812, enlisting in Berkeley Co. He was a weaver by trade but an artist by desire. He never escaped his vocation and turned to drink to forget his lost dreams. He had nine children: 1) Elizabeth K. born 6 Oct. 1821 died 10 June 1822; 2) Hester Ann born 10 May 1823 died 6 March 1851; 3) Mary Sparks Reed born 1 September 1824 died 14 October 1847; 4) William Henry born 30 November 1826 married Nancy White 23 January 1846, Carroll Co., Mo.; 5) Caroline born 31 May 1829 died 14 February 1852, married Jonathan Miles who was born in Alabama and later moved to Texas after Caroline died; 6) John Darst born 14 August 1831 married Emma Margaret Allen, David died in Oregon (either LeGrand or Ashland), Emma died in Fresno Co, CA. 3 December 1932; 7) Marcella Esther born 7 May 1834 died 28 December 1891 near Richmond, MO., married Elijah Happy 21 April 1853; 8) James L. born 23 April 1836 died 19 April 1863; 9) Samuel Bryan Reed born 28 May 1839, Carroll Co., Mo. died March 1916 Ray Co. Mo? married Permelia Shackelford, daughter of John Shackelford and Melinda Hughes Witcher. My ancestor is Samuel Bryan Reed who fought in the Civil War in the Confederacy ( or perhaps in a local militia. He was wounded in a battle near his home). Mary "Polly" Bryan Reed died at the home of her daughter Marcella Happy in Ray County. We don't know the Reed's in Va. David's father's name, based only upon his children's names may have been William, John, James or Samuel. James is a Bryan name, his wife's grandfather. My line is through Mary Melinda Reed, daughter of Samuel Bryan Reed. She married Charles Blackburn Huddleston and moved to Fresno County, California. Hope this helps. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Leland Garton USGENWEB NOTICE All documents placed in the USGenWeb Archives remain the property of the contributors, who retain publication rights in accordance with US Copyright Laws and Regulations.
