Carroll County, Missouri Obituary - Dulaney, Frances Jeffries d. xxx Source: Dulaney, Frances J. - Obit OBITUARY Frances Jeffries Dulaney was born Oct. 13, 1836 in Russell Co., KY. and was the daughter of Rev. Elijah and Elizabeth Jeffries. In her infancy they removed to Greene Co. where her early childhood was spent, when about 10 years old they moved again to Adair Co. and remained there until she reached womanhood, when with a number of other families they sought their fortunes in the west and located on the rich lands two miles west of Chillicothe, MO. After two years residence in Livingston Co. they settled in Carroll Co. on the old homestead two miles south of Hale, now divided into several homes. During her entire life she was a kind and affectionate sister in the home, ever remembering others before self. The thought of an education for girls in her earlier days was more than a poor preacher could ever hope to attain but he did not fail to fill their minds with pure thoughts that he knew would develop into character that would stand the strain of time and adversity. At the early age of 13 she gave her heart to Jesus and united with the free-will Baptist church, which her father represented ever loving and serving him and being glad she was worthy to suffer for him. In 1854 she was married to Wm. P. Dulaney and at once moved to their home one mile west of her father's where she labored and helped make them a beautiful home and reared her family of 8 children, 6 sons and two daughters. Realizing that her children would have to compete with much more than she did she set her mark high for them and strove as only a mother can strive to educate her children, in this she was nobly assisted by her husband and they made their influence felt in their county work. Some ten years ago after their children were all married, they felt that they deserved and had earned a rest, in their declining years, when they moved to Hale where she resided at the time of her death. Some 30 or 35 years ago a welt the size of half an egg made its appearance on her left collar bone, about 12 years ago it left that part of her body and in a short time reappeared on her left side just under the arm pit. This gave her intense pain at intervals for a few seconds only, she gave it no heed and for a number of years no serious apprehensions were felt until a couple of years past the pain became so severe that she called in assistance and the Dr's pronounced it serious cancer. Since May she has been under treatment in St. Louis and K. C. X-rays were used as that was thought the most effective while the disease was not checked the pain was lessened, but on Wednesday preceding her death her heart showed signs of failing when her children hastened to her bedside they found her still hopeful and trusting. She told them that she had always tried to measure her life and conduct by the Bible and that her death was only passing from suffering to ease and whether she lived or died she wanted to be cheerful and as little trouble as possible. So when the messenger came at 6:10 o'clock a.m. June 29 she only said; tell the boys this has reached by heart, "tell everybody goodby" and quietly passed to her reward. When the news reached home that Aunt Frank Dulaney was dead did it not touch every heart in the community? We knew her only to love her. Her remains were brought home and laid beside her husband who preceded her four years ago, surrounded by all of her children and grand children and a host of friends. In 1870 with her husband and several of her children she united with the Christian church and was at this time a highly honored and respected member of the same. Funeral services were conducted by their pastor Rev. Lockhart at the residence of P. A. Shaeffer. Her life was in every way worthy of commendation and may we all strive to have an abundant entrance as she has and leave as clear a record here is the prayer of One who Loved Her. Frances Jeffries Dulaney of Hale, Relict of the late W. P. Dulaney died Monday morning at 6 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John B. Turpin in Kansas City.
