May 25, 1939 Source: Norborne "Democrat Leader" 26 May 1939 Graper, William - Obit Last rites for 82 yr. old William Graper Sr., native of Germany who succumbed to a heart attack last Thursday, were held in Trinity church at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. O.G. Tiemann, pastor of the church, conducted the services. Burial was in the Lutheran cemetery. Mr. Graper was reported in "usual health" until last Wednesday night when he suffered a first heart attack at his home while visiting with neighbors and friends who had gathered there for the evening. With medical aid, he rallied from the first attack. However, about 1 p.m. Thursday, while greeting his children called to the bedside, he suffered a second attack and his death followed. Mr. Graper was born Jan. 22, 1857 in Eldagsen, Minden Germany, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Carl Graper. He was baptized and instructed in the Christian faith, and later joined the Lutheran church. For more than 60 years he has been a member of the local Lutheran church, where he was listed as a voting member. While still in his "teens" Mr. Graper left his native land and immigrated to America in 1875. He settled in Illinois. Throughout his life, he was a farmer. When Mr. Graper first came to this area he settled on the Henry Strathman farm. After four years, he took possession of his farm three miles south of Norborne. There he lived until recently when he retired and moved to the home on North Pine street where he died. He was married to Miss Margaret Stemple Oct. 22, 1885. Remarks at the funeral services were based on Matthew 24:42:46. Songs of hope and faith were sung by the choir and congregation. Mr. Graper is survived by his wife; four children, Mrs. Anna Summers and Mrs. Ethel Schies, both of Leavenworth Kan: William Graper Jr. and Walter Graper, both of Norborne; two half sisters and one half brother; also many other relatives. Nephews of Mr. Graper serving as pallbearers included Louis, Martin and William Summers, all of Leavenworth, Kan: William, Herman and Raymond Therner, of Harrisonville, Mo.
