Died. In the residence of her son, Robert Grow, in Lexington, OK., on the 16th day of August, 1903, Mrs. Sally Grow, age 86 years, 2 months and 2 days. Mrs. Grow was born in Tennessee on the 14th day of June, 1817, and moved to Carroll County, Missouri, in 1843, where she lived until 1891, then came to Oklahoma to reside with her son. She was a fine type of womanhood physically and mentally, and an ornament to the generation to which she belonged. She was a woman of intelligence, pleasing manners, and unbounded hospitality. Her most distinguished characteristics consisted in fidelity and love of justice. She seemed to know intuitively what was right to do, and always had the courage of her convictions. A consistent member of the Christian Church, therefore a friend to the poor, abounding in good works and deeds of charity, exemplifying the sincerity of her profession. Mrs. Grow was a sweet and lovable woman, with a kind word and a smile for everyone, and many hearts beat sorrowfully in excess of anguish. The tears of little children, the tears of women and the tears of strong men flowed in anguish, and from trembling lips the sad, low whisper falls, "Grandma Grow is dead". Through many weary days she lingered between life and death, and during all those days her thoughts were never of self but always of those she was to leave behind. In spite of the unceasing and untiring watchfulness which exhausted every means know to human mind, to secure surcrease from pain, she passed away. When a woman has reached nearly four score years and ten, her death ought not to surprise anyone, but the cheerful, active and industrious life of this venerable mother in Israel was so uniform to within a few days of her demise, we had all well-nigh forgotten to observe the shade of evening already upon her. We trust that her numerous family of children, grand children and great-great grand children may emulate her virtues and when their work and life like hers is over their lives may have been spent as meritoriously and their death as peacefully as hers. Her remains were taken to her old home at Norborne, Mo., and laid to rest in the Smith cemetery, beside those of her husband, who preceded her many years ago. The friends and children share in much public sympathy.
