Carroll County, Missouri Obituary - Shaeffer, Perry A.. d. xxx Source: Shaeffer, Perry A. - Obit PERRY A. SHAEFFER Perry A. Shaeffer, 72 years old, passed away at his home in the west part of town Tuesday morning after an illness extending over a period of twelve weeks during which time he patiently bore his afflictions. He had been in very poor health for several months prior to that time. While his death was not unexpected it nevertheless cast a gloom over the community when it was announced. He had been prominent in the affairs of the community for many years. The church, community and school have all felt the influence of his untiring efforts that lead to the upbuilding of those institutions. He helped haul the first load of stone for the foundation of the First Christian church in Hale; has been an elder in the church since its organization and was the last man charter member of the church. Mr. Shaeffer served 42 years as a member of the school board and for a number of years was president which place he asked to be relieved of this spring when his time expired. His judgment and knowledge of the school laws enabled him to make for the betterment of the school. At all times he had the interest of the students at heart. We doubt if his record in this respect has been equaled by many. Perry Shaeffer was born at Edina, Mo., October 16, 1868. He later moved to Carroll county and lived on a farm three miles south of Hale and was educated in the Carrollton schools. He later moved to Hale. He was married November 20, 1883 to Miss Olivia R. Dulaney. To this union two children were born, one son Orval W., of Chillicothe, and one daughter, Mrs. Ruth DeBolt was with the devoted wife are left to mourn the passing of a kind and loving husband and father. He is survived by three sisters; Mrs. Mellie Young, Oakland, Calif; Mrs. Lula Babcock, Harper, Kans., and Mrs. Sabina Bowles of California. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Christian church, conducted by Rev. G. L. Bush, pastor of the Christian church at Carrollton assisted by Rev. Vander pool of the Hale Baptist church.
