March 11, 1969 Source: The Republican Record Carrollton, MO Wednesday 12 March 1969 page 1 Wheeler, Levi Junior - Obit Collision Killed Carrollton Man Tuesday Near Napoleon Levi Junior Wheeler, 44, of Carrollton and William Louis Schreiman of Lexington were killed Tuesday evening when their cars collided at an intersection of US 24 and M-224 southwest of Napoleon. The patrol reported that Schreiman made a left turn and the cars collided head on. They were taken to the Lexington hospital where Mr. Wheeler died about 5 pm. Passengers in the car with Mr. Wheeler was his eight year old daughter Louanna Joyce and George Edwin Larkin of Carrollton. Louanna received emergency treatment at the Lexington hospital and later was transferred to Carroll County Memorial Hospital. She received a fractured hip. Mr. Larkin received an injured ankle. Mr. Wheeler was born 3 May 1924 in Wakenda, a son of Levi Andrew and Sarah Catherine Wheeler. He was graduated from the Wakenda High School and spent the greater part of his life in Wakenda and Carrollton. He served two and 1/2 years in the Navy during WWII and was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints in Carrollton. Surviving are his wife of the home, 609 Ruby; one son Junior Edward Wheeler of Kearney, MO; four daughters, Mrs. Lyndia June Harmon of Buchner, MO; Loretta Jean of Newton, MO; Luanna Joyce Wheeler and Leveta Joe Wheeler all of Carrollton; six sisters: Mrs. Ethel Brotherton, Mrs Irvukke (Christine) Cowick; Mrs. John (Dorothy) Allen, Mary Elizabeth Wheeler and Mrs. Casy (Daisy) Staton, all of Carrollton; Mrs. Arlie (Sylvia) Brotherton of Wakenda and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Warren and one sister, Louise. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 at the Gibson Funeral Home with Elder Harold Thayer officiating. Interment will be made in Carroll Memory Gardens. *********************************** The Carrollton Democrat 12 March 1969 page 1 Crash Near Napeleon Kills Carrollton Resident A Carrollton man, Levi Junior Wheeler, 44, was one of two drivers who died as the result of a head-on collision late Tuesday afternoon on US 24 near the intersection of M-224 southwest of Napoleon. The state highway patrol said the crash occurred at 4:20 pm. Wheeler died a short time later at the Lexington Memorial hospital. The other driver, also fatally hurt, was William Louis Schreiman, 44 of Lexington. Two passengers in the Wheeler car were injured. They were his 8 year old daughter, Luanna, who suffered a fractured hip and George Larkins, 30, also of Carrollton, who had chin lacerations and a fractured ankle. Miss Wheeler was brought to the Carroll County Memorial Hospital. According to the highway patrol report, Schreiman, driving east in a 1963 Pontiac, made a left turn into the path of the westbound Wheeler car, a 1966 Ford. Wheeler, who lived at 609 Ruby street, his daughter and Larkins were reportedly enroute to Buckner to pick up a car left there several days earlier. He had been employed the last three years at the Lake City ordinance plant and had worked the morning shift Tuesday.
