September 1, 1961 Source: Carrollton Daily Democrat, Carrollton, MO Friday 1 September 1961 p.1 Wheeler, Sarah Catherine - Obit Mrs. Sarah Catherine Wheeler Dies Early Friday At Hospital Here Mrs. Sarah Catherine Wheeler, 80, passed away at the Wetzel hospital in Carrollton at 1:10 Friday morning. She had been ill for the past year and a patient at the hospital for one day. The daughter of Joseph C. and Martha J. Hill Wheeler, she was born in Carroll County on 8 May 1881. She had spent the greater part of her life in this county and at the time of her death had been residing with her son, George and daughter, Mary on Route 5, Carrollton. In October of 1897, she was married to Levi Andrew Wheeler. To this union thirteen children were born, four of whom preceded her in death. Her husband passed away on 18 October 1943. She is survived by the following children: George Wheeler, Mary Wheeler, Ethel Brotherton, Mrs. Dorothy Allen, Levi Wheeler, Jr., all of Carrollton, MO; Daniel Wheeler of Bogard, MO; Mrs. Daisy Staton, Mrs. Sylvia Brotherton and Mrs. Christine Cowick all of Wakenda, MO. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Louise Calvert and three sons, Warren Wheeler, Joe Wheeler and Jesse Wheeler. Also surviving are one brother, Elmer Wheeler of Wakenda, and 67 grandchildren, sixty-seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Four of her grandchildren were reared in her home, they were: Mrs. Norman Martin and Jackie Wheeler both of Carrollton, Mo and Mrs. Junior Bowlen and Billy Wheeler both of Independence. Mrs. Wheeler was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 Sunday afternoon from the Gibson Funeral Home.
