Biography of Jefferson D. Brummall - Chariton County, Missouri JEFFERSON D. BRUMMALL, M. D. Among the many professions worthy of the appreciative consideration of the public, none occupy a higher or more honored position in the estimation of the American people, than that of the physician. In Chariton county may be found quite a number of worthy representatives of this profession, among whom none occupy a more exalted position or enjoy a more lucrative practice; than the subject of this sketch. Dr. Brummall was born in Chariton county, April 5,1861. Spending, his boyhood upon his father's farm, his opportunities for study were primarily in the district school, but later enjoyed the advantage of a high school course at Salisbury under the tutorship of Prof. 0. Root, a very able and prominent educator. Having decided to enter the medical profession as a life occupation, in 1880 he entered the Missouri Medical College, of St. Louis, from which he graduated in 1882 with the degree of M. D. Returning home he hung out his shingle in Salisbury, Mo., from which time he has enjoyed a large and increased clientage. Always being, enthusiastic in his profession and ambitious to master every branch of the healing art, he has taken a number of special courses in surgery and medicine, among others being a post graduate course in the N. Y. City Polytechnic Institute in 1892, and the St. Louis Post Graduate School of Medicine in 1896. While he has never failed to give his undivided attention to his profession, our subject has other interests, being senior partner of the firm of Dr. J. D. Brummall & Bro., proprietors of one of the finest drug establishments of the county, as well as other financial interests. On Dec. 1, 1892, he was, united in marriage to Miss Alice, daughter of Judge J. B. Hyde, of Salisbury, an intellectual and cultured lady. who has borne him one child, a bright little son, named Clarence. Fraternally, Dr. Brummall is a worthy and enthusiastic member of Salisbury Lodge A. F. & A. M.; White Stone Royal Arch Chapter, No. 57, and Knight Templars,; also, a member of Salisbury Lodge, No. 236, 1. 0. 0. F.; Cloudine Lodge, No. 179, Knights of Pythias, and Knights of the Maccabees, in all or most of which orders he has held many offices of honor and trust. Professionally he is a member of the County, North Mo. District, and State Medical Associations; also of the Mississippi and American Medical Association, and holds a life membership in the State Pharmaceutical Association. Politically, he supports the principles of the democratic party, ever ready to contribute his aid in the advancement of those measures he believes to he right and just. Socially, he is a pleasant and agreeable gentleman, a man of upright character, highly respected and esteemed by a large circle of acquaintances, while religiously he is an earnest and consistent member of the C. P.
