Biographical Sketch of John E. Dismukes - Chariton County, Missouri John E. Dismukes. The subject of this sketch was born in Garrard county, Ky., July 3, 1843. Mr. Dismukes was partly educated in the city of Lexington, of that state. In 1868, at the age of 25 years, he came to Missouri, locating, in Howard county, where he occupied his time in farming, and teaching in the public schools during the winter season for seven years. In the fall of 1876 our subject came to Salisbury , and engaged in the printing business, and has followed it ever since. His first position in this city was on the Salisbury Press, in its infancy, where he remained till 1883, when he purchased a half interest in the publication, which was run under the firm name of Dismukes & Gallemore. Four years later he sold his interest to his partner and purchased a half interest in the " Democrat," which paper he now owns and is successfully running. Our subject is the father of four children, J. W., the elder was born in Howard county, August 22, 1869, and is a printer by trade, and one of the most artistic workmen in this section, and resides in Salisbury. The next is Claude O., who was born in Salisbury, February, 13, 1882, and is now attending the public school. The next is Jennie May, who was born in Salisbury, July 20, 1886, and the last is the baby, Jessie Lorene, who was born in Salisbury, March 19, 1894. Mr. Dismukes is a member of the I. 0. 0. F., and A. 0. U. W. secret societies, and is a consistent and influential member of the Christian church.
