J. Holman of Keytesville explains itself. Headquarters 3rd Battalion of Engineers, Office of the Quartermaster, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. April 14, 1909 Postmaster, Keytesville, MO. Dear Sir:-- Some time during August, 1909, probably about the 13th, company "I," 3rd battalion of engineers, from Fort Leavenworth, Kas., will march through your town, coming from Brunswick, Mo., and will camp in or near your town for three days The command will consist of about 150 men and 80 animals, (horses and mules.) We shall have to purchase about 150 pounds of fresh beef, about 150 pounds of vegetables, (potatoes and onions), one-half cord of wood, 900 pounds of oats and 1,100 pounds of hay per day. Also 150 pounds of fresh bread. If you will kindly give me the names of local merchants or farmers, from whom these supplies can be purchased, your kindness will be greatly appreciated. Information on the following subjects will also be welcome: (1) Possible camp sites, pastures, old fields, open woods, etc., with springs, creeks, rivers, wells or hydrants from which water may be obtained.
