Alford grew up and was educated in the Randolp county, North Carolina and Greene county, Missouri areas, marring in 1852 a local girl, Ann Catherine Vaughan born 1833, raising a family of five known children by 1860. Alford McDaniel with younger sister (1830NC-1917MO) Nancy's husband, Nepoleon Bonaparte Morrow (1825TN-1861MO?) with children, were reportedly slain by Kansas bushwackers in later part of Civil War. Their identical modern replacement headstones have death date of 1861, thought to be incorrect, because ~ ~ Napoleon's wife had at least two more children, N Bona (1862-1878) in 1862 and Nancy Lula in 1864. Alfrod's youngest brother, Francis Marion McDaniel (1835NC-1903MO) had been gathering and selling horses to the Union but is said to have removed west to Carthage, Jasper county, Missouri in 1865 becoming a successful farmer and miller taking in Napoleon's oldest son, Samuel Oscar Marrow (1854MO-1934MO) who inherited the mill, which ended as Morrow Mill sold by his three grandsons in 1976, closed in 1978 and burnt down except for concrete elevators in 1981.
