Christian County, Missouri Civil War Pension - William J. Norris

Civil War Pension: William Jasper NORRIS (1891); Christian Co., MO

The following affidavits are in the Civil War pension file of my great great
grandfather William Jasper Norris (1833-1905) who married Margaret Jane
Jones (1828-1907). It would be wonderful indeed if I could discover who
Margaret's father was among the many Jones of Christian County.

"January 16, 1891, affidavit filed in Christian County, MO, personally
appeared Lucinda Jones, age 72, Billings, Christian County, MO, and W. T.
Jones, age 43, of Billings, Christian County, MO. Being duly sworn upon
their oath declare as follows: That they became personally acquainted with
claimant the year of 1861 and lived not over one mile from him from 1861 to
August 1864 and for 18 months lived in the same yard with him -- seeing
claimant on an average of three times a week. And that they know f rom the
appearance of claimant that he was diseased and not able to work but little
this time ...."

"May 23, 1905, letter from Thomas P. Jones, age 82, brother of Margaret,
residing in Edna, County of LaBetto(?), State of Kansas. He was present at
sister (Margaret Jane Jones -- 1828-1907 -- marriage in 1850 or 1851 (date
was July 7) to William J. Norris at Elkhorn Tavern, Benton County, Arkansas.
He was personally acquainted with William J. Norris from childhood to
manhood and he well knows that neither said Margaret Jane Jones nor said
Norris had ever been previously married and that they have cohabited as man
and wife from date of the marriage to the present and have never been
divorced."
