Boyd was born in Ohio, in 1848, and is a son of John R. and Elizabeth (Wardlow) Boyd, of German and Scotch descent, and natives of Ohio. John R. came to Iowa in 1853, where he ranked as one of the best farmers in the State. Our subject remained with his father in Iowa until 1872, when he came to Clark County, Mo., and located on a farm of 272 acres, upon which he is living at present. His educational advantages were very limited. He married Mary Calvin, daughter of William and Katie Calvin, and this union was blessed with three sons: John W., Oliver and Louie. Mrs. Boyd died in 1871, and our subject afterward married, in 1887, Frances Riffle, a daughter of George and Mary Riffle, citizens of Clark County. Our subject is identified with the Republican Party, and is a liberal contributor to all public enterprises.
