In 1857, he left his native state for the west, coming as far as Keokuk, Iowa. There he remained for two years. In 1850 (1860?), he moved to Clark County, and has resided here ever since. He was married to Miss Polly E. Lane in 1861. The union has been blessed by two daughters both of whom are living. Mr. Loomis is one of the most prominent farmers of Sweet Home Township. He is quiet and unassuming, never pushing himself forward; perhaps for this reason he has never held public office. When the war broke out in ’61 he joined the Home Guards, belonging to the Second Provisional Regiment. It is men of sterling character and worth like Mr. Loomis, which has made this part of Clark County noted for its progress and development.
