He was only ill a few hours. The funeral was held Sunday at 3 p.m. Interment at Wayland Monday morning. Our sympathy goes out to aged wife and children. In the same paper was his obituary: HECOX Mark Webster Hecox, son of Sylvenus and Mary Hecox, was born in Mendon, Ill, Jan 20, 1854, and departed this life Feb. 28, 1924, at the age of 70 years, 1 month and 8 days. He was united in marriage to Susan Catherine Goode in March 1881, at Alexandria, Mo. To this union God blessed six children, four of whom survive their father. His wife preceded him in death Sept. 27, 1900. He was a member of the Christian church when a young man and later in life united with the Methodist church, and was steadfast in the faith unto the end and died a victorious death in Christ and is now at rest. On August 17, 1922, he married Miss Elnora Norton, who survives her devoted husband. Those who are left to mourn their loss of a devoted husband and faithful father, are his bereaved wife, three daughters, Mrs. Henry Woods, Mrs. Virginia Glennon and Mrs. Oscar Flinn, all of St. Louis, Mo., and one son, Ira O. Hecox of Funk, Neb., nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren, also one sister, Mrs. Frank Elick of LaBelle, Mo. He was a good man, devoted to his home, a Christian gentleman and a good neighbor. His work is done. Let us remember his virtues. The funeral service was conducted at the Presbyterian church at Alexandria. Interment was made at the Frazee cemetery. WM.REHMAN GAZETTE HERALD Kahoka, MO. Friday, March 7, 1924 Page 7 Alexandria column: Bessie Woods, Virgie Glennon, Elsie Flinn of St. Louis, attended their father's funeral at Alexandria Sunday. Mark W. Hecox was born Jan.20, 1854 and died Feb. 29,1924, being 70 years, 1 month and 9 days of age. He was well two days before his death mingling with friends and dying very suddenly with apoplexy. He had three married daughters living in St. Louis, Bessie Woods, Virgie Glennon and Elsie Flinn. They were all at the funeral. One son, E. Hecox in Nebraska. His funeral was held at the Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon by Rev. Lehmann. He done credit to the profession and himself by delivering a masterly address showing search for much needed historical devine law and appreciated by the audience. He had a good subject before him and surely done credit in an able address. He was taken to Wayland on the Sunday Evening train and buried from Kircher's undertaking parlors Monday morning in the Frazee cemetery beside his first wife.
