Gazette Herald, Friday, November, 23, 1894 The prevalence of diphtheria among pupils has caused the closing of the Keystone school in Clay township for the present. Two children of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Hecox, who live between Alexandria and Wayland, have died of diphtheria within the past few weeks. Additional Comments: Maude was 7 years old when she died (born 1887). The second child was Ethel Hecox age 4, born in 1890.
