Arnold, Hartel, Thomas, Wilerton-McClelland & Riley Cemeteries, Clay County, Missouri Arnold Cemetery Located on the farm of E. Burke and Cora Yates, it is located along the north property line, which is also the Clinton County line in the NW 1/4 of Sec. 34, Twp. 54, Range 31, Clay County, Mo. This cemetery is located due west of Holt, Mo., and about a quarter mile west of 33 Highway on CC Highway. Mr. Yates states that there are no stones with names or dates, but tradition has indicated a graveyard to be there. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hartel Cemetery or Arley South Cemetery This cemetery is referred to in the history of the Arley church by Orin Nolting. It is located in the NW 1/4 of Sec. 24, Twp. 53, Range 32, Clay County, Mo. It is on the former Elmer and Anna Hessel farm about 1/2 mile south of the Arley church and on the top of the hill west of the present house and where the former home of Conrad Hesse, Sr. was. It is indicated that no stones are there, but graves for the following are noted: Hartel, Abraham 177? - 1860? Amelia 177? - 1860? Jacob Died 1875 Susan Frick, wife of Jacob Died 1876 Hessel, Mary Died in infancy Lydia, sister of Mary & Fred Died in infancy Neth, William 1854? - 1870? Diener, Mrs. Henry Died 1870's ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Thomas Crowley Grave The Thomas Crowley grave is located in the N 1/2 of the SW 1/4 of Section 30, Twp. 53, Range 30. This is a quarter mile north on the second crossroads east of Kearney, Mo., on Highway 92. It is also almost due south of the James Farm. It is an unmarked grave in what was a horselot and on ground known as the McNamara Farm in 1940, and later owned by Ray and Marie (McNamara) Carey. Died 1849 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Wilerton - McClelland Cemetery A family cemetery located on Joe Robbinett's farm, West of I-35 on a dead end road south of PP. Twp. 54, North Range 31, West Section #36 (close to center of Section). McClelland, Virginia, wife of T. J. Apr.28, 1833 - Jul. 28, 1855 Wilerton, Rebecca Sep. 2, 1825 - Mar. 12, 1851 John T. Apr. 21, 1808 - Sep. 23, 1819 Lamb, Elizabeth ....? S. W. Lamb 1809 - 1877 Missing stone believed to be of a girl named Lamb 15 years old. Inscription on stone - Killed by Indians ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Riley Cemetery Information regarding this cemetery was related by Ralph Morris to his son, Don. It is located in the SE 1/4 of the SE 1/4 of Sec. 20, Twp. 53, Range 31, Clay County, Missouri. Names and dates are not known, but graves are believed to have been of the Benjamin Riley family. The land in 1877 was under the name of W. P.
