Jan 9, 1885: Charming Miss Lina Duncan, of Osborn, is visiting her aunt, Mrs. J.M. Sandusky, of this city. Jan 16, 1885: Miss Bertha Weber, is home again, after a short stay at her sister, Mrs. F. Hessel. Mr. and Mrs. B. Hayes, (nee Lila Dever,) are staying with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. Dever. Mr. Charles McKarnin, can boast of a fine boy at his house. Mr. Carel, of Cole county, is visiting his brother, J.J. Carel, of this city. The friends of Mrs. Greenup P. Bird will regret to hear that she fell on the ice not long since and injured her hip so that she walks with some difficulty. She is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Dr. A.M. Dockery at Gallatin, Mo. Mrs. H. Clay Rogers, of Columbia, is in our city, called here by the sickness and death of her sister, Mrs. Pratt. Mr. W.W. Bullock of Arkansas, is visiting his cousin, Clem Neeley, of this vicinity. Charming Miss Minnie Gordon Jan 23, 1885: Miss Minnie Gordon, after quite a pleasant visit to her sister, Mrs. Ed. Birkhead, near Linkville, returned home Sunday. [Also spelled Burkhead] Moscow Items. Mr. John Jeffers and wife, Aunt Nancy Gragg’s daughter, is in from Kansas to see her mother, as the old lady is sick – though she will recover from her illness, or it is to be hoped so at least. Mrs. Will. Ed Morris is seriously ill at her fathers, Mr. Jos. Morton’s. She has been complaining for several days. H.P. Linderman has gone to Excelsior Springs to see his father-in-law, Mr. Bob Minter, as he is not expected to live. Jan 30, 1885: Miss Dolly Moberly, daughter of J.B. Moberly, left last Saturday for Warrensburg to attend Normal School. Feb 6, 1885: The beautiful and accomplished Miss Flora Bishop, of Liberty, has been the guest of her sister, Mrs. G.W. Livingston, last week. Mrs. S. Scobee and his daughter, Miss Allie, went to Gosneyville, Monday. Our affable young friend, Mr. Jasper A. Reynolds, struts about as graceful as a lord, and calls himself dad; it is a boy, and weighs ten pounds. Jasper says he (the boy) will be big enough to plow in the spring. Walnut Grove Items We don’t know which is the happiest man, Mr. Charlie Stell, or Mr. Clint Tillery, as both have new daughters at their houses; all parties doing well. Feb 13, 1885: Bethel Items. Miss Barbara Hessel, one of Bethel’s belles, who has been visiting at Lacrosse, Kansas, at her sisters, Mrs. K. Stein, came home recently as rosy and full of life as ever. Barry. Elder Ramsey, of Winchester, Kansas, is visiting his daughter, Mrs. Mullet. Mr. Isley Craven, of Kearney, was down a few days ago visiting his brother, F.M. Craven. Feb 20, 1885: Mrs. Amanda Campbell, accompanied by her son Willie, and a number of Kansas City relatives are sight-seeing at the World’s Fair, New Orleans. Dr. J.B. Boyd, accompanied by his daughter, Miss Susie, is visiting relatives at Plattsburg. We hope they will return soon as there are two or three young men looking very anxious and troubled about something. Feb 27, 1885: Barry. Mr. John Kimbro and wife, and their little Kansas daughter, Lula Lee, are visiting at Mr. W. Mosby’s. Arnold Items. Messrs. H.M., B.M. and Miss Rosa Morton, of Independence, Kansas, have been visiting their uncle, Leroy Curray. They returned home on Tuesday to the bleak inhospitable prairies of “Bleeding Kansas.” Mar 6, 1885: Mr. Garthon Pratt, a brother-in-law of Maj. John H. Wymore, cut his foot with an axe very badly several days ago. Mrs. W.H. Seeger, of K.C., is spending this week with her mother, Mrs. A.G. Reed, who has been sick for some time, but who is now better. Mrs. Laura Flag, of Kansas City, is visiting her sister, Mrs. Allen Hall, of this city. Miss Sallie Lane, a charming young lady from near Independence, was visiting her brother’s (Wm. Lane) family this week. Misses Sallie and Emma Clay were in the city last week, called her by the death of their cousin, Miss Minnie Gordon. Mar 13, 1885: Miss Ruth Arnold, of Kansas, is visiting her sister, Mrs. W.O. Pitts, of this city. March 20, 1885: Miss Daisy Phelps, of Osborn, DeKalb county, is the guest of her cousin, Miss Mattie Russell. A.R. Boyd, of Knoxville, Mo., was a guest of his brother, Dr. Boyd, of this neighborhood, last week. Mrs. H.M. Richardson, with her daughter, Miss Bertie, and niece, Miss Lizzie Harren, of Wyandotte, were visiting the family of Prof. Eaton this week. Hon. J.B. Wornall and wife of Westport, spent Sunday with their son, Thos. J., who is attending W. Jewell College. Mar 27, 1885: Mr. J.G. Turnham and his sister, Miss Ida, are visiting in Kansas City this week. Acme Items. A hack containing Col. Tobe Bell, Miss Roy Bell, Miss Gertie Bell, Mrs. Laura Fugate and her two sons, Johnnie and Tobe, the former from Liberty and the latter from Clinton county, made a flying visit to this neighborhood since our last set of items were gotten up. “The scenes of our childhood how dear to our heart.” Walnut Grove Items. Mrs. Todd, of Glenwood vicinity, and Mrs. D.M. Morris, of Liberty, were visiting their brother, Mr. J.D. Morris, last week. Mrs. Charlie Mosby spent several days at her father’s, Capt. J.S. Groom, last week. Mrs. H.M. Richardson, and her daughter Miss Birtie, and niece, Miss Lizzie Harren, have returned to their homes in Wyandotte. The venerable widow of Wm. Nall still enjoys good health. She resides with her daughter, Mrs. Frank Barnes. Last Sabbath being her 85th birthday, she celebrated it with a family dinner which was attended by her children and grand- children, and a very pleasant time was had. The dinner was a splendid one. The Trib. wishes Mrs. N. may live to celebrate many more such occasions. Apr 3, 1885: From Harlem. Mr. James Gunn, from Higginsville, Mo., was visiting his sister, Mrs. Jno. Mothershead last week. Rev. Mr. Peace and wife, of the south side of the river, are visiting the latter’s mother, Mrs. A. Miller. Apr 10, 1885: Mr. F. Hessel is the happy father of a ten pound boy. Miss Allene Jones, of Ala., is the guest of her cousin, Miss Allene Jones, of this city. Mrs. E.O. Spicer, of Topeka, Kansas, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Thompson. Barry Items. Miss Azlin is visiting her sister, Mrs. Davidson. Apr 17, 1885: From Harlem. Judge Gunn and Mrs. M. Moore, from the vicinity of Smithville, were visiting Mrs. Mothershead, a daughter of the Judge, last week. From Harlem. Mrs. Capt. Gilkerson, and her daughter, Rose, left for Excelsior Springs on the 12th; the expect to be absent about two weeks. Barry: Mr. Ed Moore, of near Liberty, and his sister, Miss Anna, recently spent a few days with their friends in our village. Mrs. Ella Miller, of Liberty, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. Greenup Bird, on Oak St. Mr. R.S. Searl, of Lawrence, Kansas, was visiting his cousin, Mr. W.J. Thompson, during the week. Hon. Henry Smith and family were visiting Mrs. S’s father – A.C. Courtney – several days ago. Mr. Robt. S. Shelton, of Troy, Mo., was visiting his aunt – Mrs. R.B. Semple – the early part of the week. Mr. William Collins has gone to Plattsburg to spend the summer with his daughter, Mrs. Biggerstaff. He will enter his 88th year on the 25th of this month. Mrs. Dora Hall, of Liberty, spent last week in the city with her sister, Mrs. D.B. Flagg. Apr 24, 1885: Col. Geo. W. Frame, of Texas, is spending a few days with his brother, Maj. Frame, of Advance. Mrs. J.L. Stevenson, and her daughter, Mrs. J.C. Learey, are visiting in St. Louis. Missouri City Items. Mrs. John Titus, of Lawson, Mo., is visiting her sister, Mrs. J.M. Alcorn, of this city. Mrs. Wirthman, of Kansas City, is visiting at her father’s, Mr. Criss Shrader. Mrs. W. is very proud of her beautiful little daughter, Minnie Bertha. Miss Carrie Bird, of K.C., is the guest of her sister, Mrs. James E. Lincoln, of this city. Plattsburg Lever: That grand old Clay county gentleman, Uncle Billy Collins, has come up to spend the summer with his daughter, Mrs. Joseph B. Biggerstaff, the most perfect Martha within our knowledge. Mr. and Mrs. a. Trumbo, of Midway, Ky., are visiting their son, Mr. J.A. Trumbo, of this vicinity. Mr. Jesse Connell, of Bates Co., is visiting his daughter, Mrs. L.S. Watkins, of Providence Section. Missouri City Items. Miss Addie Mitchell was in Orrick several days last week, visiting her sister, Mrs. Jas. Pigg. Missouri City Items. Mrs. J.W. Watkins, of Coin, Iowa, is visiting her mother, Mrs. J.M. Allcorn. Mrs. Mollie Crithfield, of Brookfield, is spending a few days with her mother, Mrs. Murray, this city. Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Seeger, of K.C., were over visiting Mrs. S.’s parents (Mr. and Mrs. A.G. Reed) Sunday past. Miss May Stewart, of Wyandotte, Kas., is visiting her sister, Mrs. Able. May 15, 1885: Mrs. J.L. Stephenson and her daughter, Mrs. J.C. Leary, are at home from a visit to St. Louis. May 22, 1885: Missouri City Items. Ernest Bell and his sister, Miss Lela, spent Sunday in Carrollton. Missouri City Items. Miss Maude Lynn of Excelsior, is visiting her aunt, Mrs. Owens. Ruth Ewing School Items. Mr. S. Johnston, of Warren, O., was visiting his sister, Mrs. Ann Fenton, last week. He thinks of buying in MO., and we would give such an enterprising gentleman as Mr. J., a warm welcome should he conclude to settle in Clay. Ruth Ewing School Items. Mrs. Frances Kuchenthal, of Loring, Kans., is visiting her sister, Mrs. John S. Lightburne. She is a daughter of the late Major Wm. Todd, one of the first settlers of Clay. Miss Genie Ritchey of Clinton county, was the guest of her cousin, Miss Cora Ritchey, of this city, a few days since. May 29, 1885: Mr. W.W. Scott reports an extra fine seven months boy at his house. Such a blessing is said to be a joy forever. Jun 5, 1885: Missouri City Items. Prof. Soper and niece, Miss petty, were in town Saturday. The Prof. is looking exceedingly well. Missouri City Items. Gosney of Clay county. Mr. Jas. Mosby and sister, Miss Mollie, are guests of their aunt, Mrs. Murray. Miss Sallie Lane, a charming young lady from Jackson county, is visiting her brother (Mr. Wm. Lane) and his family this week. Mrs. Chas. Hall boasts a 7 ½ lbs. baby at his house. He says it is just the prettiest and cutest little angel on earth. It is a fine boy this time, and Mr. Thomas O’Calaghan, the happy father, steps as lightly as though it were an angel in disguise. Messrs. W.F. and John Brown, from Kentucky, are visiting their sister, Mrs. John B. Reese. Barry Items. Mrs. Flagg and Mrs. Thomas, of Kansas City and Platte City, are the guests of their sister, Mrs. Allen Hall, of this city. Jun 26, 1885: Mrs. Ed. Birkhead and children are visiting her father’s family – Judge Gordon of this city. Mrs. J.J. Huntington and daughter, Miss Annie, spent several days here last week. Miss Lena Titus left for her home in Lawson Wednesday morning, accompanied by her cousin, Mr. Al. Reed. From Sunny Slope. Mrs. A.J. Poteet, a daughter of Mr. I.M. Cox, arrived on the 16th. Mr. Poteet emigrated to Oregon in 1874, where he lived until he died, two years ago. His wife and children have returned to live with her father. Jul 3, 1885: Barry. Mr. John Gillespie and his sister, Miss Hattie, attended the Presbyterian church Sunday morning. Barry. The Misses Blackamore, of Holt, are visiting their brother, Mr. Sam Blackamore. Miss Mamie McCarty, one of the best little girls in the county, is spending a few weeks with her uncle, Maj. Ezra Price, of Fishing River. The young man who gets Miss Mamie when she grows up, will be counted lucky. Misses Annie and Sallie Evans, daughters of Col. R.P. Evans, formerly of Liberty, but no of Kansas City, are visiting Miss Anna Thompson, of this city. Nebo Items. Master Rudolph Weber, of Cameron, is staying at his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Saml. Weber’s. Jul 10, 1885: Providence Kinks. Mrs. J. Boggess was visiting her daughter, Mrs. Harry Dale, last Monday. Mr. John D. Share and children are the guests of her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Dougherty of this city. Today, Mrs. S. will start to Indiana to visit her sister, accompanied by her mother. Mrs. T.T. Allen, and her daughter, Miss Susie, are spending the week at Excelsior Springs. Jul 17, 1885: Mrs. Dr. Dougherty, and daughter, Mrs. Share, and family of Kansas, left Friday last for Indiana. Mrs. Dr. Johnson, of Kansas City, is visiting her sister, Miss Ann Tillery, of this city. Maj. N.J. Powell, of K.C. was over Monday, stopping with his son-in-law, Judge South. Mrs. Mary V. Neat and daughter, Miss Mamie, of Sedalia, are visiting Col. Geo. w. Neat and family. Mrs. Shaw and her pretty daughter, Miss Lula Shaw, of Fulton, Callaway co., are visiting relatives and friends in the city and county. Nebo Items. Mrs. Jeanes, of Odessa, an estimable Christian lady, to whom we feel indebted for many acts of kindness, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Hill. Mrs. Jeanes has been an invalid for three years. Barry. Mrs. Evans and daughters, Misses Belle and Sallie, of Kansas City, are visiting relatives here. Barry Mr. Nin. Letton, of Liberty, was in Barry Tuesday. He brought the news of the death of Mr. Darwin J. Adkins, of Liberty, uncle to Dr. Adkins, of this place. Mr. Wm. Holt and family of near Holt, were visiting Mrs. H.’s mother, Mrs. Prest. Thompson, the first part of the week. Mrs Jennie Spengler (nee Umbarger) of K.C., is visiting the family of Mr. Van Wymore. Mrs. Hettie Bradley (nee Munkirs) spent Tuesday at her father’s. Jul 31, 1885: Mrs Judge Woodson, of Independence, was visiting her son, Judge W.H. Woodson, of Liberty several days ago. Mrs. J.G. Howe, of Macon City, is the guest of her daughter, Mrs. C.S. Murray. Platte City Landmark: Mr. Wm. Tull, from near Liberty, has been visiting his sister, Mrs. Statler. Mrs. S. and her two little daughters, accompanied him home. Mrs. Sessions and her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Holland, are visiting Capt. Thomason’s family. Mrs. Jno C. Tomlinson and children, of Atchison, Kansas, spent lat week at her father-in-law’s, John W. Tomlinson, near town. Aug 7, 1885: Miss Maude Cooley, of Kansas City, is visiting her sister, Mrs. Oscar Robertson. Mrs. D.C. Allen and son Perry, are visiting relatives in Ray. Mrs. J.C. Knowld, of Minneapolis is visiting her brother-in-law, Mr. T.A. Hoffman, of this city. Columbia Statesman: Mrs. M.A. Ready, of Liberty, here on a visit to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Lemon, has returned home. Ralph, a 3 year old son of Mr. E.R. Crafton, received painful injuries by a fall a few days ago. Excelsior Sen: Mr. O. Tomlinson and sister, Lizzie, mad the city a visit today. They talk of renting a house and remaining a month or so. Miss Bettie Barnes, of Gallatin township, spent last Thursday with her brother, Maj. Joe Barnes, of the Arthur House. Mrs. Dr. Buckley is visiting her brother, Mr. Frank Collins, of Clinton county. Arnold Item. Mr. Leroy Curry and his charming daughter, Miss Ida, have returned from Kansas, where they have been since the 1st of July. They are well pleased with the country of cyclones, prairie fires and grasshoppers, and give glowing accounts of the wonderful crops, soil and climate. Aug 14, 1885: Dr. Chambliss, of St. Louis, is visiting his daughter, Mrs. L.P. Gray, of Liberty. He is looking well, as a naturally fine looking man with a new, young and pretty wife is bound to. Mrs. A.C. Waples, of Chillicothe, Mo., spent a few days in Liberty with friends on her return from Bolivar, where she had been visiting her daughter, Mrs. Beagle. Mrs. N.J. Powell, of K.C., was visiting her daughter, Mrs. Judge South, Sunday last. Mrs. J.W. Tomlinson and daughters, Misses Lizzie and Susie, are spending a season at Excelsior Springs. Aug 21, 1885: Ferrill Neighborhood. Miss Mollie Lunsford is visiting her aunt, Mrs. Wilkinson, of this neighborhood. Mrs. Shouse and son Lewis have returned from a protracted Eastern and seashore visit. Mrs. W.O. Pitts is on a visit to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Arnold, of Wilson co., Kas. Miss clara Crafton, of Meadville, is visiting the family of her uncle, Mr. E.R. Crafton. Maj. P.P. Green and his two pretty little girls, of St. Louis, were visiting his mother, Mrs. Green, of this city this week. Mr. David O. Moore, sheriff at Trinidad, Col., is visiting his old Clay county home. He is a son of the late “Yell” Moore. Little Dowan, son of E.V. Adkins, is about well. Arnold Items. Misses Nellie and Clara Barnes were in our town last week, on their way to Liberty to visit their brother, Mr. Joseph Barnes, of the Arthur House. Esquire Dooley, accompanied by his sister, Mrs. Jake Johnson, left Tuesday for Marshall, Mo. Mrs. Lowe, wife of Col. P.G. Lowe, of Leavenworth, is visiting her sister, Mrs. J.M. Barnes. Aug 28, 1885: Nebo Items. We are glad to hear that Mrs. Ben Hayes (nee Lila Dever) is convalescent. Nebo Items. Prof. L. Weber and family, of Cameron, are the guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Weber. Miss Nellie North, of Kansas City, is the guest of her aunt, Mrs. Major Frame. Mrs. Emma Estes, nee Hall, of Lawson, is visiting in our city this week. Miss Bessie Morse is spending a few weeks in Chicago with her brother, Frank Morse. Binghamville. Pretty Miss Jennie Livingston, of Peotone, Kas., is visiting her brother, G.W. Livingston, of this place. Binghamville. Mr. G.J. Turnham and sister, Miss Alice, of Kansas, City, are visiting their mother, at Binghamville, this week. Paradise Items. Mrs. Foley, of Platte county is visiting her daughter, Mrs. W.F. Nelson. Claytonville. Master Allen Atchison of Plattsburg, is visiting his grandma, Mrs. W.L. Watkins. Sep 4, 1885: Mr. Tom Kinney has a darling new baby at his house, and in honor of the event he is thinking of reducing the price of beef to editors and preachers. Mrs. Belle Sipple, of Glenwood, Mo., visited her sister, Mrs. C.S. Murray, this week. Mrs. Jas. G. Howe, county clerk of Macon county, was visiting his daughter, Mrs. Sel. Murray, this week. Rev. M.J. Breaker and family are visiting Mrs. B.’s father – Mr. J.H. Timms, northwest of town. Mrs. Dr. Dougherty and daughter, Mrs. Share, have returned from a protracted visit to relatives in Bedford, Indiana. Mrs. R.D. Duncan returned to her home in St. Joseph Saturday in company with her sister, Miss Hattie Corbin. Sep 11, 1885: Missouri City. Ambrose Griffith has a bran-new daughter at his house. Missouri City. Sam Henshaw left on Monday for Leavenworth, to place his sister Lilly in school at St. Mary’s Academy, which is under the auspices of the Sisters of Charity at that place. The happiest man here Monday was Col. Ambrose Griffith. Reason, he has another new baby at his house, which, we believe, make and even dozen. We congratulate him. Sep 18, 1885: Miss Lina Duncan, of Osborn, is the guest of her aunt, Mrs. J.M. Sandusky, of this city. Miss Katie Chrisman, who has been visiting her uncle, Judge W. Chrisman, of Independence, has returned home. Mr. Eugene Dearborn, of Richmond, Va., is visiting his parents, Elder J.A. Dearborn and wife. Capt. John S. Groom, and his daughter, Mrs. Chas. Mosby, and John Conway, have gone to Ky to visit relatives and friends. Sep 25, 1885: Acme Items. Mr. George Musser and wife are visiting their little daughter, Pearl, who is attending school at Acme Academy. Mr. and Mrs. Peyton Newman, of Edgerton, Mo., were in town the other day on a visit to their son, Judge Newman. Mr. Kincaid, of Vernon, is visiting his cousin, Mr. Charlie Evans, and Mr. Chas. A. Newlee and family. Miss Marie Park is visiting her brother, W.O. Park and many other friends in Kansas City this week. Judge H.S. Rhoton and wife of Georgetown, Ky., are visiting their sister, Mrs. William George. His luck has changed at last. Mr. C.M. Russell is the happiest man in all Gallatin township. He has a cherub boy baby at his house – the first – and nine girls. He is a man of pluck, and believes in the motto, “never surrender.” Mr. R’s neighbors are so enthused that they have serenaded him every night for a week. Missouri City. Mrs. H.D. McMeekin, of Wyandotte, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Dr. Morton. Missouri City. Dr. Morton and wife were called to Wyandotte quite suddenly on the 9th inst., to attend the death-bed of Mrs. Morton’s father, Col. H.D. McMeekin. They were fortunate enough to arrive in time to see him before he died. They remained to the funeral, returning home on the evening of the 10th. Oct 2, 1885: Binghamville. Our friend, Mrs. Lee (nee Dale,) who has had the typhoid fever, is some better. Lieut. Alexis Mudd and his sister, Miss Lulu, were visiting Mrs. Green this week. Dr. Herman Garlichs, of St. Joe, spent Saturday last in our city. He is a son of the late Dr. F.A.H. Garlichs, for many years a distinguished citizen of Liberty and noted physician. Dr. Herman G. resembles his father very much, and we are gratified to say he has made a success in life. – something we are always gratified to say of a Clay county boy. Rev. J.W. Jordan, wife and son, and Mrs. Fourt, Mrs. Jordan’s mother, arrived in the city last Tuesday. Rev. Mr. J. is the new Methodist Minister. Oct 9, 1885: Claytonville. Gunn, who has been clerking on one of the U.S. quarter boats, this summer, is quite sick with malarial fever, at the residence of his aunt, Mrs. Mothershead. His parents, from Higginsville, are with him. Mrs. Trimble, of Columbia, Mo., is visiting her sister Mrs. T.T. Allen in Liberty. J.C. Orr, an attorney of Atchison, Kansas, and a son-in-law of Ex-Gov. Glick, was attending circuit court the first of the week. Oct 30, 1885: Acme Items. The heart of MR. David Horner was mad glad by the arrival from Kansas of his sister, Mrs. Hopewell, and cousin Wm. Carey, of Clinton co. Mrs. C.C. Courtney, of Kansas City, is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L.B. Dougherty in Liberty this week. Miss Stella Thomas, daughter of Capt. Thomas, of the Plattsburg Register-Lever, while returning from a party near Plattsburg last week, was thrown from the buggy and had one of her limbs broken. The Tribune wishes her an early recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Walker, upon the return of their daughter Miss Sallie, from Colorado, gave a pleasant Thanksgiving supper to the young folks, and each one voted it a success on their departure, wishing the young ladies many repetitions of the event. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. R.L. Jacobs on Dec. 7th. Bob, says he will vote the straight Democratic ticket. Mr. L.T. Petty and daughter, Miss Emma, returned Wednesday from Kentucky. Mrs. C.S. Murray is visiting her mother, Mrs. James G. Howe, at Macon City. Dec 25, 1885: Miss Nellie Adams, who has been visiting her cousin, Miss Lula DeBerry, has returned to Kansas City.
