Miller: - Sir: That my old friends may know my whereabouts I will state that I own property in Pleasant Hill, Cass co., Mo. I was born in Virginia Oct. 24, 1793, and hence will be 80 years old in Oct. next. I moved to Kentucky in 1810 – the year of the earthquake in New Madrid county, Missouri Territory; moved to Missouri in 1819; built the second cabin in this county on Crockett’s Creek – what is no Clay county was then in Howard county. Old Peter Estes and Cornelius Gill having built the first cabin on Rush Creek just below the residence of the late Jas. Walker. I moved to my cabin on the 3d of April, 1820, poor except a good wife and a pair of twins – Grandison and Tilman Everett. In July we got into an Indian fight. – We killed two and wounded one, but the Indians were too much for us, and we had to Fort for defence. Howard Everett. Juen3, 1873.
