Martin, in this city. For a year his daughter, Lizzie, had been engaged to be married to Mr. Walter Craig, and, we understand, the day set for their union was not far distant. About ten days ago the young lady was stricken with scrofula in the throat, and yesterday morning she told her affianced that she was going to die. It being the desire of both parties that the union they had been waiting for should be consummated, at 2 o’clock, Rev. Mr. Irwin was called in and performed the marriage ceremony at the bed-side of the dying woman. In an hour and a half thereafter the bride closed her eyes in death. – Kansas City News. Again do our slothful young men mourn at the visit of Hymen in our midst, for they lose two of Columbia’s fair daughters. The family residence of Mr. John M. Samuel, on Hitt street, was the scene of a happy and very pleasant wedding party on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 10, 1872, a large number of friends and acquaintances having there assembled to witness the marriage of Mr. Edward L. Dimmitt of St. Louis, to Miss Bettie R. Samuel of Columbia. At a quarter past three o’clock the couple to be joined in holy wedlock, preceded by the brother-in-law of the bride, W.W. Garth, and his wife, entered the crowded parlor with smiles of joy and happiness soon to be made everlasting till death should them separate, when a most appropriate and beautiful ceremony was conducted by Rev. R.S. Campbell, pastor of the Old School Presbyterian church in this place. After the ceremony and numerous congratulations a magnificent repast was served and a short time spent in saying “farewell” and “God bless you” to the young bride who would soon leave for her new home in St. Louis. Mr. Dimmitt has for a long time been connected with the drug house of Dimmitt & Bro., St. Louis, who by his gentlemanly address and frequent and unsuspected visits to Columbia, has won many friends and acquaintances in our midst. To the newly married ones we wish a life of happiness and prosperity, and we hope that not a cloud may arise to darken that bright sky f wedded bliss which is today without a shadow. The report at first, was not believed, though it startled some in our midst when they began to see that it might be one, from abroad who would be the favored one after all. Wednesday, Dec. 11th, 1872. At 4 o’clock Chas. S. Moore. M. Willie Powell. So then Miss Mary was to be married, and sure enough, to Dr. Moore. Every one was looking forward to the wedding which we knew would come off in a manner suitable to a couple so worthy of an elegant display. Wednesday, four o’clock came, and before that hour the church was filled with the numerous friends of the family who were invited to be present.
