Marriage and Machines. Yesterday evening, the Rev. J.V. Bailey united in marriage, Mr. Ben. F. Laswell, of Jefferson City, and Miss Bettie Mills, of this city. Miss Bettie has been a citizen of this city for a month or two, and by her quiet demeanor, made many friends. She was a seamstress and all of our young Sewing Machine Agents were anxious to sell the lass a machine. She had some four or five on trial (we mean the machines) and when it became public that she had not only married but had gone to Colorado, there was a general rush this morning, by the agents to get their sewers. They found them at her late boarding house in good order, and each took his model and with a solemn tread and ghastly mien, wended his way to his office, thankful that though he was bereft, he had not lost his $85 machine. Here we part company and leave all of the agents to their tender or bitter memories, as the case may be. – Sedalia Dem. Sep 12, 1873: Married in Liberty, Mo., on the 10th inst., by Rev. W.R. The smile that blest one lover’s heart Has broken many more!” At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Bridal Party, friends and relatives, repaired to the hospitable mansion of Mr. Darwin J. Adkins, father of the bride, and there partook of a sumptuous and elegant collation. The married life of the happy pair began beneath the silvery beams of the Autumnal moon, and may its close be no less bright and joyous. Z. Sep 19, 1873: At his residence, by Elder Asa N.
