MARRIAGES IN CLAY COUNTY MISSOURI

The following marriages appeared in The Weekly Tribune, Liberty, Clay County, 
Missouri during the year of 1857.  Some the marriages did not occur in Clay 
County.  The date of publication is shown prior to the item(s).

Jan 9, 1857:
On the 30th ult., by the Rev. Jno. G. Fackler, Mr. John C. Dunn, to Miss 
Margaret J. Bowman, all of Liberty.

On the 1st inst., by the same, Mr. Simpson Kensinger, of Ohio, to Miss Susan 
Watson, of Richfield, Mo.

On the 29th ult., by Elder Henry Hill, Mr. John Haynes, to Miss Lurinda S. 
Wirt, all of Clay.  Thanks for the dollar.

On the 1st inst., by Elder W.C. Barrett, Mr. R.S. Osborn, to Miss Kate Miller, 
all of Clay county.  Good old Spanish dollar received, for which we make our 
bow.

On the same day, by the same, Mr. Moses Lake, to Miss Mary W. Jones, all of 
Clay.

In Independence on the 29th ult., by Father Donnelly, Mr. John Polk, of 
California, to Mrs. Ann Eliza Smith, widow of the late Jabez Smith, of 
Independence.

Jan 16, 1857:
On the 8th inst., by the Rev. Jno. G. Fackler, Mr. Wm. M. Thomason, to Miss 
Margaret Carson, all of Clay.

On the 6th inst., by Elder Henry Hill, Mr. Beverly Petty, to Miss Martha Ann 
Estes, all of Clay.  Dollar received – may happiness attend them.

Jan 23, 1857:
In this county on the 15th inst., by Rev. Mr. Prather, Mr. Charles S. Stark, to 
Miss Permelia C. Thompson, all of Clay co.
We acknowledge the gold dollar &c., the usual fee in such cases, and with 
pleasure extend our congratulations to the happy couple who have taken upon 
themselves this most sacred of all relations.  We hope their lives may be one 
of continued sunshine and prosperity, and that not a single cloud of misfortune 
may, for a moment, overshadow their happiness.

In Bracken county, Ky., by Elder Brown, Judge Joseph Doniphan, to Miss 
Elizabeth A. Ward, all of Bracken.

Jan 30, 1857:
On the 22d inst., by Rev. John G. Fackler, Mr. James Taylor, of Platte county, 
to Miss Virginia, daughter of Mr. John Walker, of Clay.

Feb 20, 1857:
In this city, on the 17th instant, by the Rev. John G. Fackler; Charles 
DeSpada, Esq., to Miss Lydia Hendley, daughter of the Late Judge John Hendley, 
all of Liberty, Mo.

In this county, on the 5th inst., by Elder W.C. Barrett, Mr. Theadore Coon, to 
Miss Elizabeth Miller, daughter of William Miller, all of Clay county, Mo.

Feb 27, 1857:
In this county on the 22d inst., by Elder W.C. Barrett, Mr. Byrd Smith, of 
Kentucky, to Miss Nancy, daughter of Wm. Miller, of Clay county.

In this city on the 25th inst., by Rev. John G. Fackler, Mr. Moses Dickson, to 
Miss Martha H. Bowman, all of this city.

Apr 3, 1857:
On Wednesday 25th ultimo, by Rev. Jno. G. Fackler, Dr. Wm. H. O’Loughlin, to 
Mrs. Mary C. Hadley, all of Clay county.

On Thursday the 12th of March, 1857, by Rev. H. Hill, Mr. Wm. P. Hooper of 
Parkville, to Miss Sallie L. daughter of Mr. Thos. Arnold of Clay county.

May 1, 1857:
Married, at the Presbyterian Church, in Lexington, by the Rev. Mr. Hobson, on 
Thursday evening last, 23d inst., Jno. C. Royle, Esq., to Miss Eliza Kirtley, 
all of that city.

May 22, 1857:
On the 19th inst., by Rev. Jno. G. Fackler, Mr. Lawrence Glem, to Miss Sallie 
A. Bowman, all of Liberty.  Gold dollar received! May their pathway thru life 
be strewn with flowers.

May 29. 1857:
In Lexington, on the 12th inst., by Rev. Mr. Cobb, Mr. Wm. J. Burnett, of 
Liberty, to Miss Mary A. Locke.

In this county, at the residence of J.W. Ford on the 27th, by Hon. Geo. W. 
Dunn, Mr. Marcellus A. Davis, of Ray county, to Mrs. Mary Jane Comstock, of 
this county.

Jun 5, 1857:
In Liberty on the 31st ult., by Elder R. C. Morton, Mr. Darius Sessions, of 
Richfield, to Miss Mollie Fisher, of this city.

In Sacramento, on the evening of the 20th of April, by Rev. J.L. Shuck, A.C. 
Hunter to Miss Edith, daughter of E. Sauders.

Jun 19, 1857:
In this county on the 16th inst., by Rev. Mr. Tilford, Rev. Thomas R. Storts to 
Miss Asenath, daughter of Mr. Wm. Rice sr. all of this county.

Jul 3, 1857:
In Plattsburg, on the 25th inst., by Rev. Mr. Lewis, Mr. O.G. McDonald, to Miss 
Mary Jane, daughter of Joseph Holman.

Jul 31, 1857:
In this county on the 21st inst., by Elder R.C. Morton, Mr. F.P.M. Estes, to 
Miss Fannie G., daughter of Col. John L. Howard, all of clay county.

In Leavenworth City, on the 22nd inst., by Rev. Mr. Stone, Mr. Washington D. 
Kelly, to Miss Helen F. Lautin( not sure of spelling).

Lewis, Mr. D.M. Turney, of Plattsburg, Mo., to Miss E.S. Burgess, of Ray co.

Sep 18, 1857:
At Germantown, Penn., on the 7th inst., by Rev. Wm. Suddard, Mr. Henry Morton, 
of Clay county, Mo., to Miss Mary A.R., only daughter of the late Jonathan 
Sowers, of Philadelphia.

Oct 23, 1857:
On the 15th inst., in this county, by Rev. John G. Flackler, Mr. E.P. Donivan 
to Miss Sarah E. Allcorn.

Nov 6, 1857:
In Weston, at the St. George Hotel, on the 29th ult., by Rev. J.B. Wright,

In Liberty, on the 24th inst., by same, Mr. Charles H. Barbee, to Miss Mary 
Jane Estes.

At Carondelet, on Tuesday, the 10th inst., by the Rev. John F. Cowan, Mr. Jas 
M. Loughborough, of St. Louis, to Miss Mary daughter of Dr. A.W. Webster, of 
the former place.

Dec 11, 1857:
On the 8th inst., in this city, by Rev. John G. Fackler, Mr. Henry C. Gant, of 
Platte county, to Miss Minerva, daughter of Hon. J.T.V. Thompson.
Gold dollar received.
“Be theirs the pure, the prosperous love,
That pledged on earth and sealed above;
Grows in the world’s approving eyes,
In friendship’s smile and home’s caress
Collecting all the heart’s sweet ties
Into one knot of happiness.”

In Howard county on the 12th by Elder T.N. Gaines, Elder B.T.F., Cake, to Miss 
Mary Hughes, all of that county.  

Dec 25, 1857:
In this county on Thursday the 17th inst., by Elder A.H.F. Payne, Mr. R.H. Kern 
to Mrs. Susan E. Duncan, all of this county.
The “little joker” received.
“Hymen thy brightest torch prepare,
Guild with light the nuptial bower,
With garlands crown this lovely pair,
On them thy choicest blessings shower.”
