Yates has moved into the Carter property on St. Bernard. Sam Henshaw, now of Norborne, spent Sunday at his old home. Mr. T.C. Magers, spent Sunday last with his family in Weston. Wm. Samuels, has beautified his premises by the free use of paint. Messrs. Donaghe & Smith, are having their buggies repainted in handsome style. Mrs. Mary Anderson, of Kearny, is visiting her numerous friends here. Mrs. John Chanslor and Mrs. J.M. Stapp, are both on the sick list this week. Messrs. Luther and Eck Bell, took in Norborne, Mo. last Sunday. John McKarnin, has painted his large shop on Main Street near the Henshaw House. A new smoke house with a rat proof cellar beneath, adorns C.C. Carter’s back yard. A.P. Gano, returned last Saturday eve., from a two weeks visit to friends in Maryville, Missouri. Miss Rebecca Robertson, is at home again after a lengthy visit to relatives and friends in Glasgow, Mo. Mr. Horace Chanslor, late with the Hammerslough clothing house K.C., spent several days this week in our city. Uncle Henry Corwine, is lying quite low from a stroke of paralysis he received sometime since. Work has been commenced on the Methodist church repairs, and will very shortly assume the aspect of a city chapel. The Baptist meeting conducted by the Revs. Barton, of the College, is still in progress and is growing in interest daily. Mr. Chas. Burgess and lady, from the west end of Clay, spent last Tuesday in our city with relatives and friends. Maj. H.B. Gillam’s property has been in creased ten fold in value, by the construction of a neat picket fence in front. Col. J.M. Donaghe, has built a new kitchen in the rear of his house and is at a loss to know what to build on a vacant spot yet left. Mr. James Hutchison, departed last Monday morning to Maryville, Mo., after spending a couple of weeks in this city with his family. Capt. Thomas J. Mitchell, our famous tonsorial artist, is fitting up the room in the corner of the Gillam house, with the view of opening a shop. Miss Lelia Winfrey, accompanied by Mr. Luther Bell, attended the closing exercises last Wednesday of Woodland Seminary, at Independence. The “Clay Cornet Band” have been secured for the Grand Political Campmeeting, at Excelsior Springs, beginning June 14th, and continuing four days. We acknowledge a friendly grasp by the hand of Maj. James A. Gillespie, of the Capitol last Monday, whose bright countenance foretold his business among us. The Masonic Order of this city will give a picnic here, or hereabouts, on June 24th, inst., (St. John’s day,) and we understand prominent Masons from abroad, will honor the occasion. U.R. GREEN.
