The Re-union of the Young family (children of the late Wm. Young who settled in clay county about 1830) which occurred at the residence of our venerable friend, Mr. J.M. Wilkerson, near Gilead, last week, was an exceedingly pleasant and happy one. Of the family of eleven children, nine were present (two having died years ago) with their children and grand children. The day was passed in entertaining conversation, relating the stories and incidents of “long ago,” when Clay county was surrounded by the red man, and was the western bounds of civilization. The Wilkerson mansion was built by Wm. Young, (somewhat modernized by his descendants) and is a very large 2-story log house, weatherboarded outside, and plastered within, and is today as sound as when erected. In the yard of this venerable house, the dinner was spread, and a sumptuous one it was, and of course, relished by all. Those who were present, speak of the entertainment as one long to be remembered on account of the cordial hospitality of Mr. Wilkerson and all present, the fine dinner, and above all, the happy, and at the same time solemn occasion. Seldom is it, that of eleven children to a family, a re-union is held 54 years afterwards in the original homestead, with nine of the children and descendants present. Those present were: Thomas and John Young, of Texas; Benj. F. Young, of Montana; Mrs. Jas. H. Dale, of Southeast Missouri; Mrs. J.M. Wilkerson, Mrs. Robt. Kern, Mrs. Ray, Judge James E. Young, and one other, whose name we did not learn. By this time, the family are again widely scattered, and it may be that the next re-union, where all will be present, may be in that “betterland,” (they are all members of the church of Christ). The Tribune, however, trusts they may all live to again meet in a similar capacity some years hence. We were cordially invited to be present at the re-union, and nothing would have afforded us greater pleasure, but one of our hands was sick, and being commencement week, it was utterly impossible to do so without losing an issue. From the Plattsburg Democrat. There was a reunion of the children of Wm. Young at the old homestead in Clay county, Tuesday of last week. Nine of the eleven children are yet living, and all of them were present. Tom and John Young reside in Texas, and Ben in Montana, the others all living this state. On Saturday Judge Jas. E. Young, of this county, one of the nine, had the pleasure of entertaining his brothers and sisters, and the pleasure of the occasion was only marred by the fact that John had been suddenly called home by a dispatch announcing the serious illness of his wife.
