Reid rreid21@cox.net September 9, 2007, 8:37 am The Liberty Tribune, Apr 26, 1861 Liberty Tribune, Apr 26, 1861: Death of Samuel Hadley. Esq. It becomes our painful duty to announce the death of Samuel Hadley, Esq., on the 22nd instant, which took place at his residence near this city. It may be said of him, of a truth, that he was a good man; gentle, kind, and accommodating in his disposition, he had a host of friends among men of all parties. In the exercise of a Constitutional right, we have often opposed his election to the office of Sheriffalty of Clay county – to which he was often elected, over some of the most popular men in the county; greatly outrunning his party strength – but we never done so as an enemy; but on the contrary, with painful reluctance. Mr. Hadley, was sixty-five years of age, and was born near Lexington, Ky., and was raised in Todd county, Ky., and removed to this county in 1828. Alll over upper Missouri, where he was well known, his death will bring a pang to many a heart, and be deeply regretted. He has left this world in a time of great trouble to our country, but we trust has found that “rest” which will be never ending. Peace to his ashes.
