D. one thousand eight hundred and fifty five, before me, Joseph Whorton, a Justice of the Peace within and for the County and State aforesaid, personally appeared Sarah Whitson, aged sixty two years, a resident of Clinton County in the State of Missouri, who being duly sworn according to law, declares, that she is the widow of Abraham Whitson, deceased, who was a private in the company commanded by Captain William Jobe, in the Regiment of Tennessee Volunteers, commanded by Colonel James Lillard, in the war with Great Britain, declared by the United States on the 18th day of June, 1812; that her said husband volunteered in Newport in the State of Tennessee on or about the first of September A. D. one thousand eight hundred and thirteen for the term of six months, and continued in actual service in said war for the term of about five months, and was honorable discharged at Knoxville in the state of Tennessee about the first day of February, A. D. one thousand eight hundred and fourteen. She further states, that she was married to the said Abraham Whitson in Cocke County in the State of Tennessee on the fourteenth day of October, A. D. One thousand eight hundred and seven, by one John Nothington, a Justice of the Peace, and that her name before her said marriage was Sarah Jeffers; that her said husband died in Clinton County in the State of Missouri, on the second day of February, A. D. One thousand eight hundred and forty, and that she is now a widow. She further declares, that she has herefore made application for Bounty land under the act approved September 28, 1850, and obtained a Sand Warrant for forty acres, No. 49,846, which she has legally disposed of, and it cannot now be returned. She refers to the proof accompanying her former application, to establish the facts her said marriage and the death of her said husband. She makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the additional bounty land to which she may be entitled under the act approved March 3, 1855. Sarah (herXmark) Whitson Additional Comments: In Sarah's application of 21 Feb 1851 she states that her husband volunteered for six months, but served for four months, and that he served in the "war of the United States against the Creek Indians". Otherwise, the dates and officers are the same as in the above application. On 1 Feb 1851, James D. Watkins (Justice of the Peace) witnessed that he had become acquainted with the Whitsons about 24 years before and that they were close neighbors. In another statement he says that "before me, peraonally appeared Mary Jeffers the mother of Sarah Whitson who was present at the wedding of her daughter to Abraham Whitson.
