Quarles and Miss Mamie Bunce; Samuel Reynolds' house on farm of John J. Gibson burned; work on creamery commenced; week of prayer observed in Protestant churches. 5 - Thermometer stood at 32 degrees below zero - coldest of year; A three-year-old son of Sallie Fry, colored, froze to death at Chouteau Springs. 4 - Complimentary pop-corn banquet (?) tendered to W. M. Williams. 9 - Married, Silas L. Rankin and Miss Allie Humphreyville; relief committees doing good work among the poor; David C. Byler died in Cass county, aged seventy-one years; Charles DeWitt robbed store in Franklin, and is captured in Sedalia. 12 - Charles Weber badly burned by blasting accident. 11 - Nat. R. Harris died at Pilot Grove. 13 - N. M. Crooms commits suicide near town -- cause, insanity; $3000 in city bonds retired; Simeon T. Davis died at Pilot Grove. 15 - Emil Palliou robbed at depot by unknown tramp; festival for poor, by ladies of Boonville; net receipts, $112.50; Pilot Grove MIRROR declares for T. P. Bashaw for Governor; the Boonville TOPIC announced for Marmaduke; Morgan Cammack arrested for forgery. 17 - Captain J. H. Orr died; McDearmon and Finney form a co- partnership as contractors; 25 - "Doc" Arnold suicides at Pisgah 29 - Leap year ball on 29th. FEBRUARY 1 - Professor T. A. Johnston announces intention of erecting a $50,000 college in Boonville, and buys ground; Lester Wright and Miss Mollie Williams, Thomas D. Turner and Miss Blanche Reid, F. McCune and Mrs. Mary Wood were married; the hull of the wrecked "Bright Light" raised by Captain H. McPherson; 8 - Mrs. Nancy J. Cooper died; Newt. Monday attempts life of Jim Quinn. 12 - August Hadelich died, aged fifteen years; Knights of Pythias gave entertainment at Hall; Patrick Sullivan and Miss Barbara Hall married; Mrs. Francis M. Davis died; Boovnille Creamery Company incorporated. 14 - Robert Bone and Miss Sadie Russell married; German M. E. church dedicated; 19 - Major Wm. Lusk died; 25 - Mrs. T. W. Cartledge died; circuit court in session, large number of cases disposed of. 26 - Stephen Weber died 25 - Married Thomas Drinkwater and Miss Lutie Harrison, W. E. Richey and Miss Helen Carpenter, Charles D. Rowles and Miss Fannie Harris. 28 - Married, Miss Ida Koontz and Isaac Hupp, Riley Holman and Miss Ruth Staples. MARCH 5 - Married, Charles B. Gaunt and Miss Josie Eckhard. 2 - Frame house in rear of City Hotel destroyed by fire. 4 - Married, J. O. Reeson and Mrs. Nancy Robbins. 6 - Jerry Edwards, of Pisgah, died from effects of wound inflicted by Benjamin Palmer. 16 - Married, Michael Cohn and Miss Carrie Waterman. 18 - Clear Creek township voted seventy-five to five in favor of compromising bonded debt. 23 - Cooper County Bible Society holds its annual meeting; Thomas McLeod and John Morrissey, tramps, attempt to rob Ellis' store at Pilot Grove, and are captured; Henry Saunders gives himself up to the officers. 27 - Rock-road meeting at Tipton, with Cooper represented. 25 - E. B. Mellor, of Lamine, died. 26 - Married, Albert Matthews and Miss Mattie Hulett. 29 - Republican city convention held, and full ticket nominated. APRIL 8 - Boonville city election held and full republican ticket chosen, with exception of W. H. Harrison, democrat, for street commissioner. 4 - J. E. Baker died near Otterville. 5 - Horse-show held in Boonville. 9 - Robert Gault died, aged seventy-one. 20 - Married, Frank Wilkins, of Boonville, and Miss Iola Workman, of Kansas. 17 - William Dengolesky and Miss Sophia Meisel were married. 18 - John W. Wilson commits suicide at Moberly; county court lets the contracts for working roads. 23 - The Bunceton deport burns. 24 - Married, Elmer L. Koontz and Miss Josie Smith. 22 - Dr. Sonneschein, of St. Louis, lectures to crowded house. 24 - Wm. Rayl died aged eighty-eight years. Pilot Grove bank organized. MAY 2 - Frank James brought to Boonville to answer charge of Otterville robbery. Released on writ of habeas corpus to appear in July, bond, $6,000; married J. C. Spahr and Miss Mollie Lingo; C. A. Arlington arrested at Pilot Grove, for passing counterfeit money; died, Mrs. Chas. F. Weyrich; Horace Leonard's leg broken; 4 - Mrs. P. H. McNulty died. 3 - W. C. T. U. organized in Boonville; Cicero Berson arrested charged with grand larceny -- wanted in Kansas. 13 - W. C. Bronaugh and Miss Eva Blankenbaker married. 10 - A. R. Hutchison died, aged twenty. 17 - Democratic primary election held, 2092 votes cast. 20 - May party, Miss Mamie Spahr crowned queen; Boonville Publishing Company incorporated. Married, Phil Back and Miss Lou Meisenheizer. 22 - Democratic congressional committee meet in Boonville; Daniel Devine died at Clifton, aged one hundred and three years; annual examinations and closing exercises of the various schools take place. 25 - John Thro's safe robbed. JUNE 3 - Died, Bettie V. Kratz; Augustus Keucklehan commits suicide; F. Piper has leg broken by rock falling on him. 9 - Democratic conventions at Boonville to elect delegates to state and congressional conventions. 12 - The Kemper School form an alumni association. 9 - Married, Mr. Wm. Campbell and Miss Ella Greenlease; Otterville post-office robbed of $75. 8 - Sam Bruce, colored, drowned in Petite Saline creek. 17 - Dr. John Fetzer died; married, Louis Dibrell and Miss Ida Nelson. 15 - C. B. Combs killed by the cars at Lamar. 18 - Died, Mrs. Baz. Wells; city ordinance passed, making assessment on $100, 50c for general purposes, 20c for interest, and 25c for hydrant rental. 18 - James Baker died; J. D. Coates killed in Arkansas. 28 - Jos. Stephens, Sr., died, aged eighty-three; Mrs. Christine James died. 25 - Married, Frank Swap and Miss Jennie McKenzie. JULY 1 - John Zshirpo killed near Billingsville by a runaway team; Dan Briggs arrested in Lamine township charged with murder; Bell & Bro. enlarge their apple factory; the Boonville REPUBLICAN makes its first appearance. 6 - Charles Allen's residence destroyed. 7 - The steamer "H. C. Coleman" blown up by boiler explosion, and Taylor Smart (colored) drowned. 9 - Richard D. Holman died, aged eighty-eight years. ? - Burglars rob the houses of G. G. Weare and Wm. Mittelbach; W. D. Mahan's new book published: "Life of F. T. Kemper" placed on sale. 12 - Dan G. Davis died. 14 - Pat Sullivan's house struck by lightning, no one hurt. 12 - Benjamin Palmer arrested in Arkansas for killing Jerry Edwards. 14 - Boonville democrats ratify. 18 - J. J. Wilkins ordained as pastor of the Episcopal church. 14 - Mrs. W. H. Trigg died, at the age of sixty-seven years; Dr. F. Swap elected president of Missouri Dental Association. 16 - Charles Drake died at Minnetonka, Minnesota; Cleveland and Hendricks clubs formed. 24 - John T. Heard nominated for congress. 25 - Sam Hickam shoots Harrison Davenport, in Saline township. 30 - J. C. Gross died, aged fifty-three years. 28 - Normal Institute commenced a three weeks' session. 30 - Mrs. Margaret Ellis died at Pilot Grove. AUGUST 2 - Died, John L. Windsor, aged twenty-one years. 4 - Mr. R. Meirhoffer and Miss Emma Smith married. ? - Dr. H. C. Gibson's leg broken. 9 - Steamer "Martha Stephens" sinks, and Henry Hoefer, the bartender, and three roustabouts are drowned. 10 - Rev. O. W. Gauss tenders resignation as pastor of the Presbyterian church; Henry Saunders pardoned. 18 - Rev. G. W. Horn died; circuit court in session; the Frank James' case continued. 22 - S. W. Crossley died at Bell Air, aged forty-two years. 21 - Married J. F. Krebs and Mrs. L. Osgood; E. A. Cochrane appointed school commissioner; the firm of Muir, Quarles & Ferrel formed. SEPTEMBER 3 - E. S. Mills and Miss Annie Tucker married; Bunceton organized an A. O. U. W. Lodge; republican mass meeting held to elect delegates to different conventions; Miss Laura Withers died. 12 - S. W. Ravenci retires from ADVERTISER, and takes charge of TOPIC; Speed and Lon Stephens assume control of the ADVERTISER; Benj. Hess drowned in the Lamine river; C. L. S. C. organized in Boonville. 9 - Grand democratic rally at Boonville. 15 - The "Rob Roy" sinks and 1,200 sacks of wheat are lost; Mrs. Schiller dies suddenly. 18 - Geo. G. Weare, Jr., died at St. Louis. 20 - Republican rally at Boonville; Republican county convention "indorsed" a county ticket; Theo. Christine, of Otterville, injured by a fall from a train. OCTOBER 1 - Marriage of Miss Maggie Cooper and Mr. Reuben Bryant, and of Miss Ellie Adams and Dr. Sam'l Johnson; Boonville Literary Club organized; Water Street bridge broken down by heavy rains; Elopement of B. W. Plant and Miss Mamie Kline and Paul Minor and Miss Alice Kline. 12 - Mrs. Charles Williams died. 11 - Missouri Pacific depot entered and robbed. 27 - Opening of new Thespain Opera house by Sol Smith Russell; N. M. B. club organized. 21 - Marriage of S. S. Harnaca and Miss Ella Summers. 31 - F. M. Caldwell, L. H. Stahl and Phil W. Stahl take charge of the ADVERTISER as publishers and proprietors; Speed and Lon Stephens retiring. 29 - Marriage of Herman P. Weyland and Miss A. M. Gilbreath celebrates his fiftieth anniversary; Democratic ratification meetings over the county; Circuit court in session; 16 - Death of Mrs. Jessie Main. 19 - Marriage of W. H. Allison Jr. and Miss Amelia Hosp; Max Heller and Miss Leonora Beck married at Pleasant Green. 14 - Miss Minnie L.
