Villages of Crawford County, Missouri - JACOBSTON The Jacobston post office was established on the banks of Brush Creek seven miles northwest of Cuba in 1878. Many years ago an old gristmill was operated under the hill below the post office. The remains of the mill dam can still be seen but today few facts are known of its history. The little log building that housed the post office still stands and is in a good state of preservation. In 1886 Joseph N. Taylor was appointed postmaster and he moved the post office to his home one-half mile down Brush Creek. Judge Taylor was postmaster until it closed in 1890. The desk used in sorting mail when he was postmaster may be seen in the museum of the Crawford County Historical Society. ------ CRAWFORD COUNTY AND CUBA MISSOURI James Ira Breuer, 1972 p. 77 ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
