Crawford County Pension Record - Joseph CATES From the general affidavit state of Mo, Crawford Co. Joseph Cates of Co. F 32 Regimental Mo. Vol. Inf. and that he is clamiant that the disability for which he claims pension arrisis from disease called Hepatitis resulting from an injury to the left side of the breast and left side of the body near lower ribs that he has been ailing. Since about the month of August 1863 that while in the service and in the line of duty near Mud Camp in the state of Miss. a dispatch to general head quarters under orders of major A. J. Seay, while on the way, he had his horse running and he stumbles and fell upon the ground. As the horse was rising to his feet, he himself was rising at the same time being in position immedeatly in front of the horse struck him in the left side of the breast. Inflicting an injury. The affect of said injury went down the left side and formed disease which is called Hepatitis that was treated for said injury by Dr. Watson who was a surgeon of the regiment until the injury formed said chronic disease in about Sept. 1864 he was sent to the invid corpse. Dated July 17, 1885 From Deptment of the Interior Bureau of pension. He had disease of lungs, testicles, Catarrh of the head and rhurmatism. This was dated August 06, 1894 Joseph Cates was discharges June 17, 1865. He was a private. Joseph Cates was borned in Tenn. or Va. He was 38 years old at the time of discharge. He had blue eyes, light hair, and a farmer. Joseph Cates was borned 08-29-1822, died 08-20-1899. Married Louisa Largen borned 10-25-1830, did 10-21-1907. Their children: born where died Annie 1854 Tenn. Mary L. 1856 Tenn. Elijah 1858 Tenn. William H. 1860 Mo. Headstone 12-16-1858, 12-09-1878 Munroe 1862 Mo. Martha 1868 Mo. Headstone 11-20-1866, 11-08-1950 Mentie Minerva 1869 or 1870 Mo. died 09-09-1898 Crawford Co.
