MO Local Obituaries for the Week updated January 5, 2007 John Henry Brandenburger John Henry Brandenburger of Cuba, Missouri was born to the union of Fred and Mary (nee Rutz) Brandenburger on November 23, 1928 at Oak Hill, Missouri and left from this life on Saturday, December 30, 2006 at the age 78 years one month and seven days. John was united in marriage to Geraldine “Jerri” M. Summers on November 18, 1960 at Mexico, Missouri. John and Jerri worked together as owner/operator of Mark Twain Beverage Company, Inc. in Hannibal, Missouri from 1968 to 1977. From 1982 to 1988 they owned and operated the Missouri Meerschaum Corn Cob Pipes Company in Washington, Missouri. He was a 3rd Degree Mason and then became a 32nd Degree Shriner belonging to the Moolah Shrine in St. Louis, Missouri. He also enjoyed traveling, fishing, making friends, but what he loved most was being a husband, Dad, Papa John and grandpa. John is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mary Brandenburger; and one son, Randy Hammett. Those who are left to mourn his passing are his son, John and wife Evelyn Brandenburger of Lancaster, Ohio; four daughters, Karen Brandenburger of Marthasville, Missouri, Mary and husband Joe Miller of Cuba, Missouri, Jerri and husband Wes Sites of Washington, Missouri and Rhonda and husband Terry Sampson of Hannibal, Missouri; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two brothers, Jack and wife Diane Brandenburger of Argyle, Texas and Bill and wife Pearl Brandenburger of Cuba, Missouri; one sister, Joan Kespohl of Cuba, Missouri; and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation was Tuesday, January 2, 2007 from 4-8 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Celebration of Life Service at Britton Funeral Home in Cuba. Funeral Service 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2007 with Father James Finder officiating at Britton Funeral Home, Cuba. Special music for the service was “How Great Thou Art,” “Precious Lord Take My Hand” and “On Eagles Wings.” Pallbearers were Matt Smith, Jason Brandenburger, Ted Sampson, Jeff Cunningham, Tim Ryle, Al Callahan, Steve Conrad and Brad Kurz. Serving as honorary pallbearers were Leroy McGinnis, Ronnie Hansen, Charlie Kolb and Tunney Yardley. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Oak Hill, Missouri. Arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri. Joyce Ann Dorf Joyce Ann Dorf (nee Davis) was born March 15, 1921 at Davisville, Missouri and passed away on January 1, 2007 at the age of 85 years, 9 months and 16 days. She was one of seven children born to Walter A. and Mary J. Davis. She is preceded in death by her husband, Spencer; sons, Phil and Ned; her parents; brothers, Lavondal and Bill; and sisters, Jerry, Gladys and Ruth. Joyce is survived by her children, Judy (Larry) Chinners of Cuba, Missouri, Robert Dorf of Steelville, Missouri, Davis Dorf of Colorado, Penny (Jerry) Sanders of St. Louis, Missouri, Lois Dorf of Fenton, Missouri, Jeanette (Bill) Green of Springfield, Missouri, Nannette Dorf of Cuba, Missouri; one sister, Norma Greves of Cuba, Missouri; 14 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. She enjoyed cooking for large gatherings and was known for her creative Christmas displays through the years. She raised nine children and cared for many children at her home in Cuba, Missouri. Hansen of Cuba, Missouri was born on April 30, 1923 in Denver, Colorado to the union of the late Arthur and Elsie Hansen (nee Egerer) and left from this life on Tuesday, December 26, 2006 in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 83 years, 7 months and 27 days. Rev. Warren was united in marriage to Jeanette V. Johnson on August 6, 1955 and to this union two children were born, Douglas and Janice. He proudly served his country as a decorated veteran in the U.S. Army during WWII, he received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Pathology from St. Louis University in 1958. He taught, was a consultant and lecturer for a number of years at St. Louis and Purdue Universities. He was ordained an Episcopalian Priest in June 1971 after his studies in Theology. Between 1972 - 2006 he had churches in Kansas and Missouri. Most recently he and Jeanie participated and shared in the ministry of Sts. Francis & Clare CEC of Columbia, Missouri. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Hansen and Elsie Hansen (nee Egerer). Those who are left to celebrate and cherish his memory are his wife of 51 years Jeanette V. “Jean” Hansen of Cuba, Missouri; son, Douglas Hansen of Cuba, Missouri; daughter, Janice (Ronald) Owens of Lawson, Missouri; and one grandchild, Megan Collins of Kansas City, Missouri. Thelma Mae Lewis Thelma Mae Lewis of Cuba, Missouri was born May 29, 1915 to the union of Lawrence H. and Laura L. (nee Warnhoff) Lewis at Cuba, Missouri and left from this life on Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 91 years, 6 months and 27 days. Thelma worked as an inspector for the Cuba Shoe Company for 20+ years. Her parents Lawrence and Laura Lewis were the owner/ operators of Lewis Hardware that was located here in Cuba for many years. Thelma was a life time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cuba, member of the Golden Mariners and the Order of the Easter Star. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Laura Lewis; two brothers, Herbert and Beverly Lewis; two sisters, Laura Lewis and Loretta Taylor; and a host of other relatives and friends. Those who are left to mourn her passing his her nephews, Ronald and wife Lana Taylor of St. James, Missouri, and Albert Lewis of California; one niece, Louise “Louanne” and husband Ken Carlson of Kortez, Colorado; great nieces, great nephews and friends. Moutray of St. James, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at the Golden Living Center in St. James, Missouri at the age of 90 years. Everett was born on July 31, 1916 in Steelville, Missouri to his parents, Harlan Sylvester and May (Luck) Moutray. He was united in marriage to Elsie Baker Moutray on August 10, 1940 at Owensville, Missouri. She passed away May 31, 1993. Everett was then married to Peggy Jean (Owens) Roark on May 9, 1997 in St. James, Missouri and she survives at the family home. He worked for the railroad for 21 years. He was a World War II worker when Fort Leonard Wood was being constructed. He also was a carpenter. He loved to hunt and fish. He loved his grandkids with all his heart. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and got the 50-year pin for his services. He was a member of the First Baptist Church for 60 years. He was a Sunday School teacher, deacon and a superintendent of the Sunday School classes. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Raymond, Harold, Fennel, Doyle and Floyd Moutray and two sisters, Gladine Moutray and Ruth Birge. He is survived by his wife of the home; two step sons, Dale Roark and wife Debbie of St. James, Missouri and Shannon Roark of St. James, Missouri; two step daughters, Diana Whiteside and husband Rick of St. James, Missouri and Shanna DeClue and husband Wayne of St. James, Missouri; one brother, Adrain Moutray of Steelville, Missouri; two sisters, Clara Gilmore of St. Louis, Missouri and Madeline West of Leasburg, Missouri; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren and many family and friends. David Everett Nevills David Everett Nevills of Owensville, Missouri formerly of Cuba, was born June 15, 1922 at Lonedell, Missouri to the union of Nicholas Nevills and Velma (nee Smith) Nevills and left from this life on Thursday, December 28, 2006 at St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 84 years, 6 months and 13 days. David was united in marriage to Ruth Weppner on April 5, 1975 at Sullivan, Missouri. David was a “Jack of all trades”; he could work on anything with a motor and fix it. He could build anything, make anything and an excellent cook. He attended the 1st Assembly of God Church of Owensville for the past couple of years. David is preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Velma Nevills; two sons, Harold Ray and Gary Dean Nevills; one grandson, Glen David Nevills, Jr.; two granddaughters, Ariel and Chelsey Nevills; two sisters, Dora Loyd and Pauline Thompsons. Lois Jean Ottermann Lois Jean Ottermann of Cuba, Missouri was born November 14, 1938 in Midridge, Missouri to the union of the late Austin and Daisy Alice Volner (nee Britton) and left from this life on Sunday, December 24, 2006 in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 68 years, 1 month and 10 days. She was united in marriage to Herbert J. Ottermann on April 29, 1961 in Cuba, Missouri. Jean was a factory worker for Cardin Machine Shop in Sullivan, Missouri. She was of the Lutheran faith and enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Cuba Senior Center. She is preceded in death by her parents, Austin Volner and Daisy Alice Volner (nee Britton) and a son, Mark Ottermann. Those who are left to mourn her passing are her husband, Herbert J. Doyle Tucker Doyle Tucker of Sullivan, Missouri was born on Tuesday, November 8, 1921 in Pocahontas, Arkansas to William Walter Tucker and Pearl May Sisco Tucker. He passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2006 at Life Care Center in Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 13 days. Doyle married Rose A. Tyrrell in Chicago, Illinois on December 28, 1957 and to this union five children were born. Doyle worked as a hospital orderly most of his life before retiring. His hobbies were playing solitare and Nintendo. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Raymond Tucker, Darrell Tucker and Glenberg Tucker; granddaughter, Angel Rose Tucker; and half sister, Lennie Burris. Those who remain to mourn his passing are his wife, Rose A.
