MO Local Obituaries for the Week of January 6, 2010 Sally Marie Ashby Sally Marie (Powers) Ashby was born on February 2, 1928 in Ames, Iowa, the only child of John Leslie and Gertrude Madelyn (Kelleher) Powers and passed away at her home at Lake Ozark, Missouri on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at the age of 81. She was united in marriage to Robert H. Ashby on July 12, 1947 in Columbia, Missouri. She was a devout Catholic, and was very involved with her parish at Our Lady of the Lake. She was also co-owner of Rosati Winery and Prairie View Farms in St. James, Missouri, for many years. She and her late husband, Bob, resided in St. James most of their married life, until they retired and moved to the Lake of the Ozarks in 1989, where she resided at the time of her death. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Gertrude Powers; her husband, Robert Henry (Bob) of 56 years and an infant son, Mark Ernest Ashby. She is survived by nine children, Robert Henry (Hank) Ashby and wife Marilyn, Mary Ellen Holt and husband Ed, and Linda Jane Spry, all of California, John David Ashby and wife Meredith of Atlanta, Georgia, Elizabeth Ann Moreland and husband Ron, James Gerard Ashby and wife Sheran, and Marjorie Clair Huffman and husband Gary, all of St. James, Missouri, Sarah Powers Piazza and husband Paul of O’Fallon, Missouri and Matthew Turner Ashby and wife Melanie of Ozark, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Walsh and husband Tom of Kansas City, Missouri, and RoseMary Bond of Sarasota, Florida; 26 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; two more great grandchildren on the way at the time of her death; other relatives and friends. Rodney Woodrow Brown Rodney Brown of Cuba, Missouri was born on Friday, December 18, 1942 in Pleasantville, Iowa to Ralph W. Brown and Bessie Berniece Heaberlin Brown and passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2009 at the age of 67 years and 13 days. Rodney married Mary A. Mull on August 26, 1964 and to this union seven children were born. He served honorably as an aviation mechanic for 22 years in the United States Navy. He then was employed as a Corrections Officer at MECC, Pacific, Missouri for 19 years. He was a member of the Cuba VFW 7147 and had attended The Old Country Church in Leasburg, Missouri. He had lived on the family farm throughout his life and was a self-employed farmer. He loved farming with a passion and raised hogs, cattle, crops and hay. He was an outdoorsman at heart and liked looking for arrowheads and enjoyed country music. He was well-known at the Interstate Regional Livestock barn. She lived with her daughter and family in Florida, Georgia and recently back to Cuba, Missouri. She was very active and involved in the Change of Heart Church, Cuba, Missouri. Kathleen was a member of the White Oak Grove Baptist Church. She was a member of the Republican Party were she served as a Committee Woman for many years. Kathleen had many passions she loved to work in the yard where she made it into a sanctuary for God’s creatures. She grew beautiful wild flowers. She enjoyed resting in the hammock and absorbing the peace and beauty of God’s creations. She liked all animals but, especially cats. Kathleen was a quilter and seamstress and made many dresses for her granddaughters. Elaine June White Elaine June White was born March 4, 1941 in Jud, North Dakota to Henry and Bernice Mickelson Podoll and passed away December 30, 1941. She moved with the family to California in 1950 where she completed high school and met husband, William “Bill” White. The couple moved to West Plains, Missouri in 1969 where they raised their three children and lived until 2004. In 1970, Bill and Elaine founded White Electrical Service. In 2004 upon their retirement, Elaine and Bill built a new home and moved to Steelville, Missouri. Elaine was an accomplished and passionate artist. She was an organizing member of Ozark Hills Decorative Painters of Lebanon, Missouri and a longtime member of The National Society of Decorative Painters. She was also a member of Show Me Strokes painting club of Springfield and Ozark Palettes painting club of Branson, Missouri. She was a long time devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Podoll.
