Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she always maintained an active role in their lives. Each of them held a special place in her heart, just as she did in theirs. Interment was in Crestview Memorial Park, St. Clair, Missouri. Maude Ione Stubblefield Dorf Maude Ione Stubblefield Dorf was born in Oak Hill, Missouri on February 5, 1913 to the family of Robert F. Stubblefield and Maude Hamby Stubblefield. She had four older brothers, Bob, Andy, Bill and Harvey and one older sister, Alma. Later the family included three more sisters, Dode, Dot and Frieda and one brother, John. Ione attended school at Oak Hill, Missouri where she enjoyed all the school subjects and playing basketball. Three of her teammates attended her 90th birthday celebration this past February. After school she went to St. Louis to work as a housemaid for a wealthy family and also took care of their children. Ione later went to work at Fisher Body and moved in with her sister Alma. One of her cousins, Lloyd Ferris, introduced her to Walter Edward Dorf. He joined the Marines and they wrote to each other for two years. Walter returned on leave from the Marines and they were married by a Justice of the Peace in St. Louis. The couple immediately departed for Fredericksburg, Virginia where they rented a one room apartment because Walter was stationed at nearby Quanitco, Virginia. Ione took a job at a paper factory where she filled orders for cellophane paper. They returned to St. Louis when Walter's enlistment was up and began a family. Three children arrived, Joyce, Joan and Roger. They moved to Cuba in 1944 because Walter returned to the Marines for World War II. Emily was born at Rolla, Missouri in 1946 after the war. Ione's ambition was to be a wife and mother. While the children were growing up she worked at Brown Shoe in Steelville with her sisters, Dot and Dode. Ione could always find the best in the most difficult individual or situation. She always made you feel you were the most important person around. Ione loved flowers and always had many around her and also made sure the homes of her family members had lots of flowers. Family was the most important thing to her and she took part in many great family gatherings with the Stubblefields and Dorfs. Ione has always been very close to both families. She had stayed connected to the Dorf family and wrote letters to those that lived away from Cuba. She was a part of that great generation that worked hard and stayed in touch with family and friends. Her cinnamon rolls are legendary and she loved making them for everyone. If you spent the night at Granny's house you always woke to the smell of cinnamon rolls baking. She was famous for her hospitality and was always steadfastly available to anyone that needed a sense of home and comfort. Ione's motto was "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me." And she drilled that into her four children, eleven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Her family feels that she had a direct line to God's ear and whenever they needed prayer for themselves or a dear friend they asked for her to pray. She loved collecting angels and everyone enjoyed providing her with new ones. The angels could be in a book, on a sweater or whatever. The family believes she had an angel connection and they now have their own special angel to look over them. Trinity Chapel has been a large part of her life from the time it was dedicated. She worked to get it started and to make it the wonderful, friendly place it is. Ione was preceded in death by her husband Walter E. Dorf, parents, four brothers, Robert, Harvey, Bill and Andy Stubblefield and three sisters, Alma Souders, Dorothy Smith and Dora Dickerson. Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her loving children Joyce Stewart and husband Bob, Joan Lee, Roger Dorf and wife Sandy and Emily Mosher and husband Woody; one brother John Stubblefield and wife Mary; one sister Frieda Workman and husband Chilton; two brothers-in-law Bob Haviland and Milton Dorf; four sisters-in-law, Edna Stubblefield, Lyle Nelson, Joyce Dorf and Juanita Dorf; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends.
