MO Local Obituaries for the Week of January 7, 2015 Mary Dorothy Brendel Mary Dorothy Brendel, nee Page, of Bourbon, Missouri was born on February 22, 1922 in Crawford County, Missouri to Walter and Kathryn (Menkhous) Page and passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014 at the age of 92 years, 10 months and 3 days. Dorothy as she was known by her family and friends, graduated from high school and on February 5, 1949 was united in marriage to Francis Brendel. Dorothy was a homemaker and was very family orientated. She made many trips to the river to watch over the children. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and quilting and was known for her chocolate sundaes and fresh baked cookies. Dorothy never spoke ill of others. Her motto was, "If you can't say something nice, say nothing at all." Many time over the years, as family and grandkids came to her for advice, her one bit of wisdom that would cover any question or any topic was, "Well, Honey that's just the way things are." She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Kathryn Page; husband, Francis Brendel; daughter, Kathryn Samrad; and one brother and sister-in-law, Bud and Mary Lou Page. She is survived by one son, Stephan Brendel of Bourbon, Missouri; four daughters, Carolyn Hertel of Bourbon, Missouri, Annette Adams and husband Russell of St. James, Missouri, Fran Hunter and husband Larry of Cuba, Missouri, and Christine Padula of the state of New Jersey; one brother, Walter Page; 14 grandchildren, Steve Brendel, Ted and Tim Hertel, Cynthia Cubas, Andrew and Michael Adams, Danny Sampson, Leslie Bone, Christine Drapkin, Stephanie Rudloff, Kathryn Padula, Roxanna Samrad, Jasmine Roloff and Farah Maisonneuve; 27 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2014 at the Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri. Graveside funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Bourbon, Missouri. Arrangements under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri Robert Russell "Bob" Bretz Robert Russell "Bob" Bretz of Cuba, Missouri was born Wednesday, January 19, 1927 at Wapello Iowa to J. Russell and Marie (nee Crow) Bretz and passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at the age of 87 years. Bob as he was known by grew up on a farm in Iowa. He helped his father with the animals and when he became tall enough to reach peddles he learned how to operate the tractors. Bob graduated second in his class from the Wapello High School in May of 1945. Bob entered the US Army Air Force on July 12, 1945. Bob was a Synthetic Trainer Operator (Link Instructor). He instructed pilots, student pilots and foreign cadets in procedures of Army Air Forces and CAA instrument flying, including let-down-low approach, beam work, radio compass and radio telephone procedure. Bob left from the Army Air Force on November 10, 1946. After the service Bob attended Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa. He graduated in June of 1950 with a BS Science in Chemistry. From 1950 till 1981 Bob worked for Mallinckrodt Chemical in St. Louis, Missouri. Bob was singing in the choir at the Methodist Church when he met Norma Lee Priegel and they were married October 3, 1953 and to this union four sons were born. After retiring in 1981 from Mallinckrodt Chemicals Bob went to work for Transport Service Company in Chicago, Illinois and worked there till 1986, after which Bob worked at Wright Industries in Chicago, Illinois until 1990 when Bob and Norma retired and moved to Cuba, Missouri. Bob had been a Boy Scout Leader in Florissant, Missouri. He enjoyed reading, going on camping adventures, playing ping pong and washers, going on bank trips. For the past couple of years Bob and Norma have been attending the First Presbyterian Church of Cuba, Missouri. He was preceded in death his parents, Russell and Marie Bretz; and one sister, Betty Maxson. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Norma Bretz of the home; four sons, Mark and wife Tammy Bretz of Terre Dulac, Missouri, Dan and wife Liz Bretz of Caledonia, Missouri, Ron and wife Lisa Bretz of Florissant, Missouri and Tim and wife Rhonda Bretz of Farmington, Missouri; 16 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; two sisters, Jean Bean of Moline, Illinois and Alice Teel of Burlington, Iowa; one brother, Bruce and wife Norma Bretz of Osage Beach, Missouri; sister-in-law, Lucille and husband Bob Van Bolen of Vero Beach, Florida; brother-in-law, Earl Priegel of Atlanta, Georgia; other relatives and friends. In keeping with Bob's wishes his body was donated to Washington University School of Medicine so that science and research could continue to help the next generations. Ollie Gene Coleman Ollie Gene Coleman was born May 21, 1927 in St. Louis, Missouri to Earl and Edith (Evans) Coleman and passed away December 25, 2014 at the age of 87 years. On May 15, 1953, Ollie was united in marriage to Rose Marie Holt and to this union three children were born. He served in the United States Army from 1945 until 1947. Ollie enjoyed chair kaning, cattle ranching, mechanics, hunting, was an excellent carpenter who along with his wife built his own home. He was an avid outdoorsman, good conservationist, loved birds and nature. He was famous for storytelling and when asked if he ever needed anything, he would always say "cool water and kind words." He was a member of the Sligo United Methodist Church since 1972. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Edith Coleman. He is survived by his wife, Rose Marie Coleman of the home in Cherryville; children, Janet Dalrymple and husband Kenneth of Annada, Missouri, Joyce Todd and husband Billy of St. Charles, Missouri, Allen Coleman and wife Gus of Cherryville, Missouri; grandchildren, Owen Dalrymple and wife Susan of San Antonio, Texas, Travis Dalrymple and wife Amanda of Annada, Missouri, Bethany Benbow and husband Gene of Springfield, Virginia, Evan Coleman of Anacortes, Washington, Brian Todd of St. Charles, Missouri, Tyler Coleman of Viburnum, Missouri and Kevin Todd of St. Charles, Missouri; great grandchildren, Lacey Hock and husband, Chris, Samuel and Logan Dalrymple; other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held Monday, December 29, 2014 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Bob Stevenson officiating. Special music was provided by Bill Archer, Emil Schulke, Jenny Waites and Elaine Russell. Carl Richard Fritz Sr. Carl Richard Fritz Sr. of Bourbon, Missouri was born in St. Clair, Missouri, on July 6, 1937 to Jess Sylvester and Opal Demore Fritz, nee Nappier, and passed away on December 25, 2014 at the age of 77 years, 5 months and 19 days. On November 5, 1960, he was united in marriage to Ida May Isgriggs and four children were born. Carl was a Christian and member of the First Baptist Church of Leasburg, Missouri. As a young man he worked in commercial construction until he was injured and unable to work. Carl was a family man and a great cook. He loved preparing Sunday dinners for his family. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and even prepared his game. He was always willing to lend a helping hand in the care of his grandchildren. In recent years, he enjoyed watching the food network on television. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Opal Fritz; an infant sister, Wilma Fritz; and one great grandchild, Carter Fritz. He is survived by his wife, Ida May Fritz of Washington, Missouri; children, Sheena Baughman of Bourbon, Missouri, Steven Fritz and wife Karen of Bourbon, Missouri, Barbie Tyler and husband Toby of Franklin, Tennessee and Carl R. Fritz, Jr. and wife Tracey of Leslie, Missouri; two brothers, Royce Fritz and wife Sharon of Potosi, Missouri and Donnie Fritz of St. Louis, Missouri; two sisters, Dorothy Immekus of Conroe, Texas and Sharon Volner of Bismarck, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Beverly Jean Oberlin Beverly Jean Oberlin was born December 9, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois to Wilbur and Mary (Peeling) Shiverdecker and passed away December 26, 2014 at Ironton, Missouri at the age of 68 years. Beverly attended Huzzah Valley Baptist Church, she enjoyed doing puzzles, coloring, crocheting, needlepoint, embroidery, listening to gospel music, playing cards and dice. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Mary Shiverdecker; husband, Arthur Oberlin Sr.; and great granddaughter, Awbree Rae Guerrero. Sanders of St. James, Missouri, formerly of Steelville, Missouri, was born Thursday, October 23, 1919 in Wesco, Missouri to Cecil and Mary Ellen (Haley) Sanders and passed away on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the age of 95 years, 2 months and 7 days. Norma gave her life to the Lord at a young age and attended both Christian and Baptist churches. She devoted her life to teaching school in Steelville, Missouri for 31 years until retirement and then moved to St. James, Missouri. She was a member of The Eastern Star since 1944 and was awarded the 25 and 50-year pins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Mary Ellen Sanders; sister, Lillie (Marlin) Laney; brothers, Kordell Sanders and Kenneth (Jackie) Sanders. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Cheryl (Jim) Owens, Doyle Laney, Cindi Sanders, Tim (Tina) Sanders, Kordell Sanders, Jr., Kenneth (Cindy) Sanders, Jr., Lois Sanders, Michelle Sanders and Donna Sanders; sister-in-law, Dorothy Sanders of St. Louis, Missouri; special relative, Jody Sanders; other relatives and friends. Lillian Marie Spencer Lillian Marie Spencer of O'Fallon, Missouri was born June 2, 1921 in St. Louis, Missouri to Frank and Clara A. Cadwell Schwindeler and passed away Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the age of 93 years, 6 months and 25 days. In August of 1944 in St. Louis, Missouri, Lillian was united in marriage to Charles B. Spencer. Lillian was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Ellisville, Missouri where she was involved in various activities throughout her life. She enjoyed quilting and caring for her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Clara Schwindeler; her husband, Charles B. Spencer in 1998; and four sisters, Bernice, Marie, Ilene and Loretta. She is survived by her two sons, Frank Spencer (Jacqueline Smith) of Lake St. Louis, Missouri and David C. Spencer (Barbara Piddock) of O'Fallon, Missouri; one daughter, Janet Spencer of O'Fallon, Missouri; one granddaughter, Jenna Spenser; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 12-12:45 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri. Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the Steelville Cemetery with Bill Bennett officiating.
