Michael David Beach
Michael David Beach of Cuba, Missouri was born on Saturday, July 16, 1949
in Valley Park, Missouri to Cullis Lee and Evelyn Everett Beach and
passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at MO Baptist Hospital,
St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 63 years, 5 months and 18 days.
He married Kathy Lewis Leible on June 19, 2004 in Cuba, Missouri.
He had previously worked in maintenance at MEPCO manufacturing, in Cuba,
Missouri. Michael enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cullis and Evelyn Beach; son,
Michael Beach, III; brother, Robert Lee Beach; and father-in-law, Don
Wehmeier.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Beach of Cuba, Missouri; children,
Teresa Dabney of Kansas City, Missouri, Farin Beach, Michael Beach, Jr.
and Jenny Beach; brothers, Ronald Beach and Roy Beach; sisters, Teresa
Richards and Linda Sue (Jerry) Stutes, all of Kansas City, Missouri;
mother-in-law, Shirley Wehmeier of Cuba, Missouri; stepchildren, Amanda
(Jimmy) Watson of Robertsville, Missouri, Nicole Leible, Zach Leible, and
Ashley Leible, all of Cuba, Missouri; six grandchildren; other relatives
and friends.
Visitation was Saturday, January 5, 2013 from 1-3 p.m. and funeral service
at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba,
Missouri with Rev. Spencer Hutson officiating.

Eva E. Blankenship
Eva E. Blankenship of Sullivan, Missouri was born February 27, 1914 at
Belle, Missouri to Arthur and Esther (Nicks) Seymour and passed away on
Friday, December 28, 2012 at the age of 98 years.
At the age of three, her parents moved to a farm east of Owensville,
Missouri where she grew up and attended the Morgan School.
On June 6, 1931 she was untied in marriage to James W. Brandon at
Jefferson City, Missouri and to this marriage two sons were born.
Eva was employed for 25 years at the DEB Shoe Company in Owensville and
later as head cook at Strain-Japan R-16 School. After the death of her
husband James on September 11, 1962 Eva was married to Vernon W. Blankenship
on February 25, 1967 at the Methodist Church in Owensville, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Esther Seymour;
husbands, James Brandon and Vernon Blankenship; two sons, James and
Harold Brandon; step-son, Ervin Blankenship; brother, Truman Seymour;
son-in-law, Gene Carey; grandson, Scott Carey and a niece, Jacklyn Seymour.
She is survived by two step-sons, Sonny Blankenship and wife Linda of
Sullivan, Missouri and Teddy Blankenship and wife Darlene of Cuba,
Missouri; three step-daughters, Margie Carey of Cuba, Missouri, Mary Davis
and husband Howard of Cuba, Missouri and Therese Wehmeyer and husband Ron
of Sullivan, Missouri; grandchildren; great grandchildren; other relatives
and friends.
Visitation was held from 4:30-8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at the
Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated 10 a.m. on Wednesday,
January 2, 2013 from Holy Martyrs of Japan Catholic Church with the
Rev. Fr. John Patrick Day, C.P., officiating.
Interment was in the Owensville City Cemetery, Owensville, Missouri.

William Leroy Copling
William Leroy Copling of Cuba, Missouri was born in Leasburg, Missouri on
Sunday, January 17, 1932 to Noah Alexander and Rosie Ellen Warden Copling
and passed away at Meramec Nursing Center, Sullivan, Missouri on Friday,
January 4, 2013 at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 18 days.
He married Marilyn Jean Petty on March 15, 1952 in St. Louis, Missouri and
to this union seven children were born.
Leroy owned for 35 years the L & M Service Company in Cuba, Missouri. He at
one time had a radio show on KTUI, Sullivan, Missouri. He played guitar in
a country band “Leroy Copling and the Ozark Troubadours” in the late 60’s
thru early 70’s. The band played at fairs, charities, benefits, weddings
and parties. He loved music and enjoyed performing at many functions.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Rosie Copling; sisters,
Artie (Perry) Eddleman, Hazel Hays, Ida Carkuff, Violet Roth, Vivian Protte,
Irene “Arlie” Kuhlman; brothers, Otis Copling, Vernon (Marie) Copling, Ben
(Mary Lou) Copling; and brother-in-law, Virgil Hays.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn J. Copling of Cuba, Missouri; children,
Sharon (Jerry) Pitts of Cuba, Missouri, Dennis (Karen) Copling of Leasburg,
Missouri, Diana (Palmer) Hubbard, Kevin (Pat) Copling, Kenny (Joyce) Copling,
and Tammy (Gary) Andrews, all of Cuba, Missouri, Lisa (Jim) King of
Leasburg, Missouri and Leroy “Lee” (Laura) Logan of Arnold, Missouri;

Charles Franklin Dace
Charles Franklin Dace was born on September 4, 1945 in Piedmont, Missouri
to Emmitt Ben and Lela Opal (Hunter) Dace and passed away December 28, 2012
in Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 67 years.
On July 30, 1964, Charles Franklin Dace was united in marriage to Ruby May
Barton and to this union two children were born.
Charles was a member of the Viburnum Eagles Club for 37 years. He enjoyed
fishing and playing slot machines.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmitt and Lela Dace; son and
daughter-in-law, Charlie and Penny Dace; grandchildren, Joshua and Rachel
Dace; brothers, Jerry, Jack and Jimmy Dace; sisters, Juanita Gore, Mary
Thurman and half sister, Ruth Wilson.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Dace of Sullivan, Missouri; daughter,
Kimberly Dace and fiancé Victor Heidbrink of Sullivan, Missouri; sister,
Helen Walheimer and husband Bill of High Ridge, Missouri; grandchildren,
Angel Drescher and Brent Mathes of Bixby, Missouri, Jennifer Grapes and
Benny Asta of Cuba, Missouri, and Sherry and Mike Shouse of Leasburg,
Missouri; great grandchildren, Corbin, Destiny, Abbigail, Jaime, Brooklyn,

Graveside service was held Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Mill Creek
Cemetery in Wayne County, Missouri, with Benny Asta officiating and
special music played.
Pallbearers were Mark Royer, Matthew Dace Royer, Vic Heidbrink, Benny
Asta, Brent Mathes and Timothy Sellers. Honorary pallbearer was Mike
Shouse.
Interment was in the Mill Creek Cemetery.

Randell Horstman
Randell Horstman of Bland, Misouri was born October 19, 1935 on the Osage
County Century Farm to Albert Christian and Freda Ivanelle Overstreet
Horstman and passed away Monday, November 19, 2012 at the age of 77 years.
He married Rose Mary Phelps on November 30, 1957.
Randell worked for many years operating heavy equipment and he retired from
the Local Operator’s Union at the age of 55 and farmed all of his life. He
was a life-long active member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he
served as a church deacon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Freda Horstman; two
sisters, Alberta Horstman and Hilda Maness.
He is survived by wife, Rose Mary Horstman; three sons, Dale Horstman and
wife Debbie, Jeff Horstman and wife Kelly, all of Bland, Missouri and Steve
Horstman and wife Rita of Belle, Missouri; five sisters, Inez Ahrens of
Bourbon, Missouri, Joyce McKenney and husband Conrad of Belle, Missouri,
Georgia Mitchell and husband Robert of Sullivan, Missouri, Minnie Jarvis
of Bland, Missouri, Marilyn Mounce and husband Tom of Steelville, Misouri;
two brothers, Albert (Junior) Horstman and wife Marie of Bland, Missouri
and Fred Horstman and wife Juanita of Foley, Missouri; five grandchildren,
LeeAnn, Shanna, Randis, Denni and Rance; two great grandchildren, Jamee and
Jaxton; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 4 p.m. at the
Sassmann’s Chapel in Belle, Missouri.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 11 a.m.
from the Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Interment was in the church cemetery.

Margaret Ida Land
Margaret Land of Bourbon, Missouri was born April 26, 1924 in Overland,
Missouri to Edward Joseph and Alma Catherine Ludeloff Forhan and passed
away Thursday, December 27, 2012 at her home near Bourbon at the age of
88 years.
Margaret and Eulis Land were married June 14, 1945.
Margaret was an avid gardener. She and Eulis started the Organic Garden
Club of St. Louis and were long time members of the Garden Club of
Leasburg. She was also a member of TOPS and of the American Legion
Auxiliary of Post 456.
Another accomplishment that she took great pride in was that she and
Eulis developed a Special Needs Schooling program for the Parkway School
District, a program that has grown and prospered into a nation wide
program helping special need children everywhere.
Margaret was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Bourbon, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Alma Forhan; her
husband, Eulis; a son, David Neil Land and two brothers, Norman Forhan
and Eugene Forhan.
She is survived by two sons, Ralph Edward Land of Nashville, Tennessee
and Harold Eulis Land of Bourbon, Missouri; a daughter, Anna Marie McGowan
and husband Jeff of Bourbon, Missouri; five sisters, Drucilla Williams
of Maryland Heights, Missouri, Mary Cole, Eileen Gangler and Catherine
Peterson all of Ellisville, Missouri and Viola Pierce of Troy, Missouri;
two grandchildren, Shaun Conner and Amy Conner; three great grandchildren,
Landon, Brendan and Easton Conner.
Visitation was on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at the Eaton Funeral Home
in Sullivan, Missouri with American Legion Auxiliary of Post 456 services.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the funeral
home with the Rev. Anthony Amato officiating.
Burial followed at the St. Paul’s Cemetery in Creve Coeur, Missouri.

Artie Wilma Lovan
Artie Wilma Lovan was born in Rush Tower, Missouri to Herbert W. and
Frances Moutray Hendrix and passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at
Delmar Gardens in Town & Country, Missouri at the age of 100 years.
She lived in Oklahoma while her dad worked in the oil fields, then she
lived in Steelville, Missouri until the mid 30’s.
She married Eugene Lovan in 1935 and they settled in St. Louis City, then
they moved to Kirkwood, Missouri in 1959.
Her sister, Roberta White and husband use to own White Grocery Store, east
of Highway 8 and a bowling alley in Steelville, Missouri.
Gene and Artie owned some property in Steelville and planned to move there
but changed their minds after seeing to the needs of her parents as they
aged and needed medical care.
She was a member of Tower Grove Baptist Church, Kirkwood Baptist Church,
Geyer Road Baptist Church and attended Centerpoint Baptist Church while
“weekending” in Steelville, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Frances Hendrix;
husband, Eugene Lovan; one grandchild, Tim; sister, Roberta White and
three brothers, Arthur, Stanley and Jewel Hendrix.
She is survived by children, Richard (Barbara) Lovan, Wilma Jean Martin
and Laurence (Wanda) Lovan; grandchildren, Ginger, Krista, Holly, Kelly,
Marty and Nathan; 10 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Saturday, January 5, 2013 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. and
funeral service at 11:30 a.m. on January 5, 2013 at the Schrader Funeral
Home and Crematory, Ballwin in Missouri.
Interment was in the Schmidt Cemetery in Sullivan, Missouri Saturday,
January 5, 2013 at 2 p.m.

James Kellogg Martin
James Kellogg Martin, of Rolla, Missouri, formerly of Dixon, Missouri, was
born on July 21, 1934 in Arcade, New York to William and Lila (Brock) Martin
and passed away Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the age of 78 years.
On October 20, 1956, he married Gertrud Dusel. Jim retired from the U.S. Army
in 1972 as Sgt. First Class. He also worked as a food service contractor for
18 years. Jim loved people. He also served as a volunteer at the Phelps
County Regional Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lila Martin; one
brother, David Martin and one sister, Ruth Black.
He is survived by his wife, Gertrud Martin of Rolla; three sons, Alan Martin
of Holt Summit, Missouri, James Martin, Jr. and wife Sherry of Pace, Florida
and Steven Martin of Dixon, Missouri; two daughters, Susan Schoen and husband
John of Rolla, Missouri and Deborah Wink and husband Tom of Rolla, Missouri;
one brother, Gale Martin and wife Gloria of St. James, Missouri; one sister,
Carol Teague and husband Doyle of Salem, Missouri; one sister-in-law, Candy
Martin of Dixon, Missouri; four grandchildren, Jenny Shelton, Jillian French,
Jessica Martin and Jade Martin; two great grandchildren, Alec Shelton and
Nicholas Shelton; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the
Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla, Missouri.

Patrick Michael McGuire
Patrick Michael McGuire of St. Louis, Missouri, formerly of Steelville,
Missouri, was born October 25, 1967 in St. Louis, Missouri to Raymond and
Mary Brown McGuire and passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at his home in
St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 45 years.
Patrick grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and graduated from McClure High
School in 1985. After graduating he worked at several florists as a floral
designer. He later moved to Steelville, Missouri, working at San Val for
several years. Pat moved back to St. Louis working at Sam’s Club in the
floral department. He also worked in the entertainment industry. He
performed at several clubs throughout the St. Louis, Missouri area. He
enjoyed playing cards, performing, playing with his dog, Annabelle.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond McGuire and grandmother,
Thelma Mizell Brown.
He is survived by is companion, Terry Lewis of St. Louis, Missouri; his
mother, Mary McGuire of Steelville, Missouri; brothers and sister, Carla
McGuire of Steelville, Missouri, Chris McGuire of Springfield, Virginia,
Brian McGuire of Leasburg, Missouri and James McGuire of Coffeyville,
Kansas; nieces and nephews, Colin, Zach, Elisha, Heather; great nieces,
Marley and Katalina.
Patrick was cremated and a private Celebration of Life will be held at
his mother’s home in Steelville, Missouri.
His cremains will later be buried at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Cemetery,
near Steelville, Missouri.

Ronald “Shorty” Moreland
Ronald Clay “Shorty” Moreland of Cuba, Missouri was born Friday,
March 10, 1950 at Vichy, Missouri to Richard and Madge (Waidelich)
Moreland and passed away Sunday, January 6, 2013 at his home in Cuba at
the age of 62 years, 9 months and 27 days.
Shorty served in the Missouri National Guard from 1968 till 1975 with the
1438th Combat Engineers. During his life he worked different places;
Meramec Electrical Products Company, Precision Metal, Callaway Power Plant
just to name a few. But he also did sales for Mid-West, was a truck driver
and worked at both of the lumberyards. Shorty was a member of the First
Baptist Church and he truly enjoyed all of his hobbies: hunting, fishing,
playing pool, cards, riding motorcycles and four wheelers. His favorite
thing in life though, was spending time with his children, grandchildren,
family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Madge Moreland and
other relatives and friends.
He is survived by his companion of 27 years, Colleen Moreland of the home;
five children, Jennie and husband Larry Whittaker, John and wife Alexis
Moreland, Joe and wife Jennifer Moreland, Jake Moreland and companion
Paige Williams and Faye Moreland all of Cuba, Missouri; six grandchildren,
Wyatt, Luke, Aubree, Lexie, Aiden and Trayton; two brothers, Bill and
wife Sharon Moreland of St. James, Missouri and Dale and wife Carol
Moreland of Dexter, Missouri; sister, Marilyn and husband Don Licklider
of St. James, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
In keeping with Shorty’s wishes he was cremated and there will be no
public services.

Colby Allen O’Dell infant son of Michael and Jessica (Briggs) O’Dell of
Sullivan, Missouri passed away on Friday, December 28, 2012 at Mercy
Hospital in Washington, Missouri.
Colby is survived by his parents, Michael and Jessica O’Dell; grandparents,
Doug and Michelle Briggs of Sullivan, Missouri, Grady and Amy O’Dell of
Bourbon, Missouri; great grandparents, Marvin and Lanora Briggs of Sullivan,

Georgia “Yvonne” Rupert
Georgia “Yvonne” Rupert of St. James, Missouri was born on June 26, 1936
in St. James, Missouri to George and Agnes (Wisdom) Lewis and passed away
Thursday, December 27, 2012 at her home, at the age of 76 years.
Yvonne Lewis was united in marriage to Robert Rupert on August 23, 1952
and to this union four children were born.
Robert made it his plan that Yvonne would not have to work outside of the
home so she was able to raise her family and take care of the household,
which she did with pride.
Yvonne attended the First Baptist Church of St. James. She loved reading
and shopping with her sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Agnes Lewis; her
husband Robert in 1995; sisters, Frieda Lewis, Alta Gunter and Shirley
Miller.
She is survived by her children, Daniel Rupert and wife Carol of Tupelo,
Mississippi, James Wade Rupert and wife Lisa of Independence, Missouri,
Ralph E. (Jack) Rupert of St. James, Missouri, and Anita Kivette of
St. James, Missouri; grandchildren, J.R., Kelley and Cameron Rupert,
Joshua Rupert, Amanda Frazier and Elizabeth Howard; great grandchildren;
Katie and Hunter Wiggins, Adam Nabb, Jonathan Howard and Clayton Rupert;
sister, Alma Lee Adams of St. James, Missouri; other relatives and friends.

Chapel.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 1 p.m. in the
St. James Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary with Reverend Dan Rupert and
Reverend Jerry Baumann officiating. Music was provided by Hal and Connie
Rhea.
Interment was in the Newburg Cemetery with Joshua Rupert, Cameron Rupert,
Richard Miller JR, Lee Roy Wells, Nathan Howard, and Paul Harvison serving
as pallbearers.

Cyrus J. Smelcer
Cyrus James Smelcer, of Rolla, Missouri, formerly of O’Fallon, Swedeborg,
Florissant, and Crocker, Missouri, was born May 14, 1926, at Crocker, to
Grover Cleveland and Marcia Viola (Stokes) Smelcer, and passed away
Tuesday, December 25, 2012, at Rolla, Missouri at the age of 86 years,
7 months and 11 days.
Cyrus grew up in and around Crocker, graduating from Crocker High School
in 1944, and was a veteran of World War II, serving as a US Army Staff
Sergeant in the Philippines during and after the end of the war.
On November 1, 1947, Cyrus was united in marriage to Bonnie Lucille
(Wall) Smelcer of Swedeborg, Missouri.
After leaving the Army, Cyrus moved to Florissant, Missouri, and shortly
thereafter was employed by Ford Motor Company. He worked for Ford his
entire career before retiring to his farm near Swedeborg in 1979.
He lived on the farm for many years, until in their advanced age, he and
his wife moved closer to their children. Cyrus loved the farm and never
forgot his Pulaski County roots. The Smelcer family lived in Pulaski
County, Missouri, for several generations.
Cyrus will be remembered for his warm personality, his quick wit, his wry
sense of humor, his passion for reading (Westerns especially), but most
of all, for the love shared with his large family, all of whom will miss
him very much. Cyrus was a baptized believer in the Christian faith.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Lucille (Wall) Smelcer of the home in
Rolla, Missouri; four children James Ray and wife, Deborah, of Warrenton,
Missouri, Bonita Gail (Smelcer) Burd and husband, Randal, of Rolla,
Missouri, Michael Steven and wife, Ruth Ann, of Tarpon Springs, Florida
and Eric Lynn and wife, Valerie, of St. Charles, Missouri; one sister,
Rosalie (Smelcer) Cross, of Linn, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; numerous
great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at noon on Friday, December 28, 2012,
in the Long-Kloeppel Funeral Chapel, Crocker, Missouri with Bro.
Lee Todd, Concord Christian Church, officiating.
Interment was in the Crocker Memorial Cemetery in Crocker, Missouri.
Virginia “Ginny” Irene Studards
Virginia “Ginny” Irene Studards nee Spriggs of Steelville, Missouri was
born on Saturday, December 29, 1922 in Alton, Illinois to David Lloyd and
Lois Gilbert Spriggs and passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at
Gibbs Care Center at the age of 90 years and 18 days.
Virginia married Clint G. “John” Studards on August 9, 1940 in St. Louis,
Missouri and to this union five sons were born.
They moved to Steelville, Missouri from Granite City, Iillinois in 1958
and she worked as an office clerk at Brown Shoe Industry. In 1976, they
moved to Florissant, Missouri and returned to Steelville in 2005.
Virginia became a full time homemaker for her sons. She was a believer
in the Lord Jesus Christ and became a member of the Center Point Baptist
Church of Steelville, Missouri in the 1960’s. She loved music and
especially enjoyed listening to Dean Martin’s recordings.
She was preceded in death by her parents, David and Lois Spriggs;
brothers, Gilbert and Floyd Spriggs; sister, Elsie Spriggs; husband,
John Studards; son, Dan Studards, and daughter-in-law, Kathy Marie
Studards.
She is survived by her sons, Mike “Mick” (Dolly) Studards of Butler,
Missouri, Tom (Paulette) Studards of Colorado Springs, Colorado, John
Patrick (Margery) Studards of Avon Park, Florida and Chris Studards of
Steelville, Missouri; sister, Beverly (Joe) Bandy of Beaufort, Missouri;
eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one great great
grandchild; other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life memorial service was Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at
6 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Steelville, Missouri.
Arrangements under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville,
Missouri.
