Kenneth "Kenny" James Brakefield Kenneth "Kenny" James Brakefield of Steelville, Missouri was born on Sunday, April 6, 1952 in Carrollton, Illinois to Kenneth Lee Brakefield and Avis Doss McMaster, but was raised by his Grammy and Pop, Lytle and Pearl Doss and \ passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at his home at the age of 68 years, 8 months and 24 days. Kenny grew up in Berryman, Missouri and attended Potosi High School. He accepted the Lord early in life. As a kid he worked at the gas station in Berryman, Missouri. He later worked as a mechanic for Henry Gillam, went into logging with Johnny Doss, was a heavy equipment operator for the Dettler's for several years, built houses with Lynn Bond and worked in the oil fields in Texas for a couple of years operating heavy equipment. He married Norma Lee Gibbs on June 30, 1974 in Salem, Missouri by Norma's uncle, Glen Gibbs. By Kenny's request, they renewed their wedding vows on December 28, 2020, just two days before his passing. Kenny enjoyed hunting and fishing. He liked to tinker on old cars, rebuild motors and take pieces from three different vehicles to make one. He acquired the nicknames "Catfish" and "Hippie" by a couple of his lifelong friends. Kenny became attached to their dog Libby who napped with him. Bridgeman Sr. of Cuba, Missouri was born on Friday, June 20, 1952 in Bourbon, Missouri to John and Ruth (Adair) Bridgeman and passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at the age of 68 years. Rodger married Brenda Whalen on January 16, 1982 in Thousand Oaks, California. Rodger started working at a very young age stocking shelves, to help support his brothers and sisters. Over the years, he worked as a logger, heavy equipment operator for Big O Construction in California and worked several different positions with N.B. West Company. Rodger was a member of Trinity Chapel in Leasburg, Missouri. He helped with the church construction and expansion. When the decision came to construct a fellowship hall, it was a decision that it would be dedicated to him in his honor. Rodger has always enjoyed tinkering with things and getting them to work again. He has always had an inquisitive mind and willingness to fix it. He was a collector of pocket knives and you could find him watching western movies and The Price is Right. "Bud" Cummings of Steelville, Missouri was born on Sunday, January 27, 1929 in Hadley, Indiana to Otto L. and Lena P. (Weaver) Cummings and passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2020 at the age of 91 years. Bud married Lorettia "Lea" Jones. Bud honorably served his country in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War. He worked for Brown Shoe Company and Meramec Industries for several years as a Trail and Sample Man. He and Lea owned and operated the One Stop Shop in Steelville, Missouri and he finished his working career at Steelville R-3 High School. Bud served the community as a member of the Steelville Fire Protection District. He loved to go fishing, flying, collecting antiques and building grandfather clocks. Marian Cowan Earls Marian Cowan Earls was born in St. James, Missouri on September 22, 1927 to David Austin and Louise (French) Cowan and passed away on Monday December 28, 2020 at the age of 93 years. On September 5, 1948 she married Walter Lee Earls at the Trinity Episcopal Church in St. James, Missouri. They were both graduates of John F. Hodge High School, Class of 1945. She graduated from Miss Hickey's Secretarial School in St. Louis, Missouri and worked at the Rolla Vocational-Technical School for many years. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and ECW and was the organist for many years. She was an active member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Walter; two brothers; and one sister. Dennis Morrison Gray Dennis Morrison Gray of St. James, Missouri was born December 24, 1947 in Waynesville, Missouri to Audrey James and Edythe Leona Morrison Gray and passed away on December 31, 2020 at the age of 73 years. He graduated from Belle High School in 1965 and later attended St. Louis Christian College. He married Sharon Hayden on March 16, 1968 in Belle, Missouri. He joined the United States Army Reserves in 1966 and worked his way up to 1SG. He served for 25 years in the 471st Engineering Company in Rolla, Missouri, which was a construction support company. Dennis and Sharon attended First Church of God in St. James, Missouri and were very active with the youth group. In 1992 they helped start the New Hope Church of God where Dennis later served as pastor for over 20 years. While serving as pastor at New Hope, Dennis and Sharon, along with other local Christian leaders, helped start the Christian Teen Center known as "A Place in the Son." Dennis was a hard-working person. He owned and operated Gray Trucking Company for many years and later the boys joined the company. He loved running the loader and driving his dump truck. He also loved Cardinals baseball, CB radios and watching westerns. He was preceded in death by his parents, A.J. and Edythe Gray; and sister, Jennifer McGinty. Roy Edward Harmon Roy Edward Harmon of Steelville, Missouri was born January 23, 1928 at Huzzah, Missouri to Emerson Eldridge and Florence Mae Parrott Harmon and passed away Monday, January 4, 2021 in Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 92 years, 11 months and 12 days. Roy married Ruth Francis Dicus on September 13, 1950. Earlier in his working life, Roy was employed at Brown Bag Company in St. Louis, Missouri. He later went to work at Floyd's Charcoal Plant in Salem, Missouri for 15 years. In later years, Roy did various jobs for John Britton, Cliff Beckham and Dr. Bauman. He also worked for the Green Thumb program for the city of Steelville, Missouri. Several years ago, he had attended Steelville First Baptist Church. Roy was always known for his working, walking and talking regiment, plus sharing his Juicy Fruit or Spearmint gum with children or adults. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emerson and Florence Harmon; his wife, Ruth Harmon; infant daughter, Brenda Sue Harmon; two sons, Wilbur Ransom and Roy Dean Harmon; twin infant brother, Troy Harmon and two stillborn brothers, Samuel and Lewis Harmon; sisters, Phoeba, Isabell, Ester Harmon and Virginia Lefler; two daughters-in-law, Gloria Harmon and Sue Harmon; and one grandchild. Ellen Mae Holden Ellen Mae (Busse) Holden of Bucyrus, Missouri was born in St. Clair, Missouri on November 24, 1943 to Henry and Ellen (Richards) Busse and passed away December 28, 2020 at the age of 77 years. She grew up in Anaconda, Missouri and attended high school in Sullivan, Missouri, from where she graduated in 1961. Ellen came to know God and was saved and baptized at Stanton Baptist Church at the age of 15. She married Manuel Holden on May 29, 1962. Ellen was always repeating the golden rule. She worked many overtime hours to make sure the family had their needs taken care of. Ellen was always cooking and cleaning, sewing and doing word search puzzles. Tuesdays were spent getting her hair done and doing weekly shopping. Ellen worked at Brown Shoe factories in Union, Missouri and Houston, Missouri, the potato packing plant in Caldwell, Idaho, Lee Manufacturing in Houston, Missouri and Houston Sportswear, from which she retired. Ellen was also well known in Texas County as an Avon sales representative for many years. Ellen also enjoyed the occasional family reunions, weddings and get togethers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ellen Busse; sister, Norma Jean Varuel; and two brothers, Douglas Bradshaw and Charles Bradshaw. Michael worked in construction most of his life. He enjoyed going, camping, floating, fishing, fast cars and motorcycles. If your vehicle was broken down on the side of the road, Michael would be the guy to stop and help fix it. Michael was an organ donor, so others in need could continue to live their life. Margaret "Maggie" Emma James Margaret "Maggie" Emma, (nee Nausley) James was born October 27, 1934 on the family farm in Oak Hill, Misosuri to Esther Nausley (nee Homfeldt) and Roy Nausley and passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021 at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 7 days. Margaret attended public school in Owensville, Missouri for grades 1-9 and 10th-12th grade in Cuba, Missouri graduating with the Class of 1952. During those years, she was active in 4-H. She then began her career with Brown Shoe Company in Steelville, Missouri in the summer of 1952 until the factory closed in the mid- 1990's. She then worked in the Crawford County Clerk's Office in Steelville, Missouri. Margaret married Richard S. James on May 1, 1952 at the 1st Baptist Church in Sullivan, Missouri officiated by Rev. Owens. Margaret followed Christ when she was 15 and was baptized in the Meramec River, joining the 1st Baptist Church in Sullivan, Missouri. In the 1960's, she was the pianist for 1st Baptist Church in Cuba, Missouri for a few years. She later joined Steelville First Baptist Church and was a member for 45 years. While there, she served as church treasurer, a Sunday school teacher and sometimes as church secretary. She was a member of Saints Alive and played the piano for Sunday school at Gibbs Care Center. While in Steelville, Margaret was president of the local VFW Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Aim High Extension Club, assisted in the community food pantry, Golden Echoes, the Garden Club, was a 4-H leader and was a member of the Sarah Barton Murphy Chapter of the DAR in Farmington, Missouri. In 2010, she moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma to live near family and joined the Eastern Heights Baptist Church. While in Bartlesville, she was a faithful volunteer at the Voice of the Martyrs, filled food bags for school children and transferred to the Bartlesville chapter of the DAR. In 2013, she followed her family to Jenks, Oklahoma and joined Trinity Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. There she volunteered with Trinity by playing the piano at a local nursing home and also was active in the Jenks Senior Center. In 2016, she moved to Prairie Rose Independent Living in Tulsa, Oklahoma and enjoyed many activities including the choir. Three years later in 2019, she moved to The Gardens Nursing facility in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Margaret loved to read, play the piano, all night Southern Gospel sings, the saxophone in school, singing alto, genealogy, Facebook and needlework. When in high school, she and her cousin Bobby Dunton Kamler, participated in a girl's trio called "The Agony Sisters." She was preceded in death by her parents, Esther and Roy Nausley; parents-in-law, Charley and Bertha (nee Dierkin) James; her husband, Richard S. James in 2003; and grandson, Joshua Leo Collins in 1989. She is survived by daughters, Karen (Bevan) Collins of Jenks, Oklahoma and Kathryn James of Centreville, Virginia; son, Richard R. Lindemann of Cuba, Missouri was born on November 15, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri to George and Caroline (Theissman) Lindemann and passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at the age of 92 years. Ray honorably served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He received the World War II Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal. He was a longtime business entrepreneur, having owned and operated several successful businesses in the St. Louis, Missouri area. Most people would say that Ray was a little hardheaded, but everyone knew that he was a smart businessman. He enjoyed his retirement years at his home in Indian Hills Lake, traveling in his motor home and being an avid tennis player. He could be found almost every morning and afternoon at Shelly's Rt. 66 Diner. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Caroline Lindeman; one son, Jim Lindemann; five sisters, Arletta Knoll, Margaret Hurt, Jeanne Dowd, Doris Lindemann and Carol Przygoda; and two brothers, Paul Lindemann and John "Jack" Lindemann. Irma Jean Nelson Irma Jean Nelson of Cuba, Missouri was born to James and Hattie (Longworth) Crews on February 12, 1932 in Kirkwood, Missouri and passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021 at the age of 88 years. Jean retired from the Crawford County R2 School District after 20+ years of dedicated service as a cook. Everyone loved her cooking. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing, feeding the birds and having a cold one. She will be truly missed, by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Hattie Crews; four sisters, Louise Benson, Marie Brown, Eleanor Garlich and Shirley Garlich; and one brother, James Crews. Dixie Lee Payne Dixie Lee Payne (nee Halbert) of Steelville, Missouri was born on Sunday, October 30, 1921 in Steelville, Missouri to Edward Harrington and Martha "Alice" Edwards Halbert and passed away on Friday, January 1, 2021 at the age of 99 years, 2 months and 2 days. Dixie attended Westover School. She married Kenneth William Payne on October 30, 1940 in Salem, Missouri. She accepted the Lord as her Savior and was a member of First Baptist Church in Steelville, Missouri. Dixie enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking and sewing. She was a people person and was a very hard worker. She and Kenneth owned and operated Payne Canoe Rental for 30 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Alice Halbert; husband, Kenneth William Payne; infant son, William Daniel Payne; brothers, Earl (Ada) Halbert, Leroy Bernard "Doc" (Ina) Halbert, T. (LaVerna) Halbert and two infant brothers, Carl Thomas Halbert and Frankie Halbert; half sister, Helen (Clyde) Hinch; parents-in-law, Ed and Ella Mae Payne; brothers-in-law, Gerald (Rebel) Payne and Harry Payne; and sister-in-law, Edith (Bill) Coppedge. Reta Louise Roark Reta Louise Roark of St. James, Missouri was born October 22, 1941 in Rolla, Missouri to Rogers "Pete" and Dorothy Louise Stough Falkenrath and passed away January 4, 2021 at the age of 79 years. She married Carl Roark Sr. December 4, 1984. Reta was an outdoor person who loved working on the farm. She had chickens, dogs and even had a horse that she rode. Reta's biggest love was cooking big meals for the family and loved big holiday gatherings and those gathering for hunting at the farm. She was known for her excellent cakes and pies. Reta loved her flowers and when the hummingbirds would feed off the feeders. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rogers and Dorothy Falkenrath; husband, Carl Roark Sr. on April 16, 2010; one brother, Dale Rogers Falkenrath; and one great grandchild, Shelby. She is survived by her daughters, Glenda Knueven and husband Robert Jay of Cuba, Missouri and Brenda Martin and husband Orville of St. James, Missouri; brothers Daniel Ruskin and Darrel Reggie; sisters, Becky Falkenrath Wallace of Oregon and Rosetta Kreisel of Arizona; four grandchildren, Dawn, Melissa, Candice and Chanel; seven great grandchildren, Jaice, Dakota, Clayton, Hailynn, Victoria and Hollan; other relatives and friends. Marlin "Mike" Harry Rohan Jr Marlin "Mike" Harry Rohan Jr. of Florissant was born April 6, 1956 in St. Louis, Missouri to Marlin Rohan Sr. and Stella (Moore) and passed away Friday, January 1, 2021 at the age of 64 years. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Alaska where he worked on the pipeline. He married Monica Cauley in Imperial, Missouri. He worked as a diesel mechanic with Kenworth in St. Louis, Missouri for many years. Mike was a definite outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing to the fullest. Hewas preceded in death by his mother, Stella Gordon; and his wife, Monica Rohan. Mary Darlene Roy Mary Darlene Roy was born December 21, 1938 in Arkansas to Luther and Ruth Swearingen Ellis and passed away Wednesday December 30, 2020 at the age of 82 years. On 1973 in Orlando, Florida, she married Donald Joseph Roy who passed away November 28, 2013. She is survived by one son, Allen Smith and wife Kathryn of St. James, Missouri; daughters, Cathy Turnbow of Van Buren, Arkansas and Lisa Ann Ritter and husband Bill of Rossville, Georgia; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
