Kevin loved riding his motorcycle, playing the harmonica, learning about the Indian culture and being around family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Horace "Pop" Copeland; mother, Barbara Jean Copeland Olive; step dad, Don Olive; brother, Harvey Michael Copeland and sister, Tammy Jean Copeland Boyd. Henkel of Cuba, Missouri was born Saturday, June 11, 1932 at Belva, Oklahoma to John Charles and Rena Brobst Major and passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at the age of 85 years. Joyce married William "Bill" Henkel on July 5, 1953 at Vance Air Force Base Chapel, Enid, Oklahoma. Joyce started her working career at a young age, she was a soda girl at a drugstore in Oklahoma. Then she went to work, after graduating from Fairview High School, as a dental tech in Enid, Oklahoma. She worked many years as a sales clerk for Woolworth's in Enid, Oklahoma and Festus, Missouri. Her last sales clerk job was at Sad Sam's in Festus, Missouri. In 1996 Joyce and Bill moved from Eldon to Cuba. Joyce played the guitar for many years. You could find them playing music at the Cuba Senior Center every Wednesday and at every Saturday Jam Session. They also played in a seven-person Gospel Group that played at churches, nursing homes, senior centers and many other places. Joyce was an avid reader and she enjoyed making quilts. For several years she belonged to the Quilting Circle at church. She enjoyed camping and fishing. After moving to Cuba, Missouri they attended the Cuba Christian Church, until Joyce's health began to decline. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Charles and Rena Major; three sisters, Virginia, Edna Mae and Thelma; and three brothers, Jake, Willis and Kenneth. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, William "Bill" Henkel of the home; one daughter, Sandra "Sandy" and husband Myron Soppeland of Cuba, Missouri; two grandsons, Chris and wife Andrea Soppeland of St. Louis, Missouri and James and wife Tracy Soppeland of Cuba, Missouri; five great grandchildren and one on the way, Kayla, William, Tanya, Jonathan and Logan; one sister, Gwendolyn Campbell of McAllen, Texas; other relatives and friends. Eleanor Lee Maaggard Eleanor Lee (Thomas) Maggard of Salem, Missouri was born on May 21, 1943 in Winchester, Kentucky to Marcus "Winfield" Thomas and Dorothy Allen Rupard and passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at the age of 74 years. She married Eugene Maggard on February 18, 1967 in Cantonsville, Maryland. Eleanor graduated Cantonsville High School in 1961. Her college years were spent at Columbia College, University of Missouri and Parsons College. Eleanor was a teacher for 30 plus years and retired from Salem R-80. She was active in the Dent County Retired Teachers organization serving as their treasurer and a member of The Parents as Teachers Association. She also volunteered as an after-school tutor. She was active in the tourism industry and continued to work to help improve tourism in Missouri. Eleanor and Eugene were inducted into the Missouri Division of Tourism Hall of Fame. She worked alongside her husband, Eugene, at Akers Ferry Canoe Rental. Over the years, she held many offices within the tourism industry. She also served as Secretary of the Dent County Child Welfare Advisory Board, Salem Hospital Auxiliary and Secretary of the Missouri Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds, member of the Jacks Fork Watershed, member of the Friends of Mt. Zion, and served on the Travel Council representing the Ozark Heritage District. She was an active member of the Salem Christian Church, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Red Hats Society. She was an avid collector of dolls and did needlepoint creations. She loved reading and traveling. She always enjoyed planning and participating in reunions, family gatherings, holidays and photographing those events. She married Donald Eugene Massey on December 5, 1958 in St. Louis, Missouri at the church she attended all of her life, Berea Temple Assembly of God. Her mission and joy in life was to assist her husband as he pastored churches. She felt that her calling in life was to support his ministry behind the scenes and out of the spotlight. She also worked various administrative assistant positions through the years and volunteered at the churches where her husband was a senior pastor; St. Louis, O'Fallon, Kansas City and Trenton, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, Siebert and Lauretta Byerly; her husband, Rev. Donald Massey; and one brother, John Byerly. James worked at the Shelter Work Shop for a few years when he was younger before moving to St. James, Missouri with his family. What he loved most was spending time with his mommy. Virgil Milton Sorth Virgil Milton Sorth of Owensville, Missouri was born Sunday, February 22, 1925 at St. Louis, Missouri and passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Rolla, Missouri at the age of 92 years. Virgil married Dolores Koch on May 11, 1945 at Afton, Missouri. Virgil and Dolores were happily married for 68 years when Dolores passed away in January 2014. After graduating from high school in St. Louis, Virgil proudly served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II. After the service, Virgil became a business and residential contractor. He retired after 50+ years of being a builder. Virgil planted a garden every spring and worked in it all summer long. You could find him fishing, when the weather was good. Virgil was a softy when it came to animals. He would adopt any animal that he found, that didn't have a home. He was known for stopping and telling people that their animals need to come inside or that the animals needed better care. He had many cats and dogs throughout his lifetime. Virgil was a member of the VFW Bledose Bulas Post #6133 in Owensville, Missouri for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dolores; son, Gary Sorth; 14 brothers and sisters; nephew, Terry Skinner; brother-in-law, Emmett Skinner; and sister-in-law, Mildred Holler. In Arkansas on April 1945, she married Ward Williams. Ruby was of the Baptist faith. For several years, Ruby would travel with her husband, Ward, to the reenactments of Rendezvous in different locations. She and Ward also loved to square dance. Ruby collected porcelain dolls and made rag dolls and bear quilts along with Barbie clothes. She would sell her crafts at the Iron Works at Meramec Springs Park each year. She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis and Myrtle Gray; her husband, Ward Williams; infant brother, William Gray; and brother-in-law, Jason Blunt. Mary Ann Zavertnik Mary Ann Zavertnik (nee Raney) of Cuba, Missouri was born in St. Louis, Missouri on Tuesday, January 19, 1932 to John and Helen (Schrussel) Raney and raised in Medora, Illinois and passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at the age of 85 years, 11 months and 15 days. Mary lived in Cuba, Missouri for the past 19 years after living in St. Louis, Missouri most of her life. In her earlier years, she was a hardworking mother of three and also worked two jobs. She was a housekeeper and a cook at Steak N Shake and a nursing home for a number of years, then later became a homemaker. Mary had a heart for others and was always a caregiver, whether it was for her own kids or helping with her grandchildren. After being busy most of her life, she decided to stay home and enjoy some time off to herself where she would spend a lot of time at the Cuba Senior Center. She loved walking, in fact she didn't drive. She particularly loved Taco Bell and Dr. Pepper. Mary truly had a heart of gold. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Helen Raney; son, Michael Zavertnik; sisters, Minnie Ferguson, Myrtle (Donald) Dunsing and Martha (Charlie) Norris; brothers, Erwin (Nadine) Kourik and Howard Kourik; and brother-in-law, George Lindsey.
