Steelville Star-Crawford Mirror, Steelville, Crawford Co. MO Local Obituaries for the Week of Jan. 22, 2003 James William Dunakey James William Dunakey of St. James, Mo. (formerly of Leasburg, Mo.) was born on October 5, 1942 at Stanton, Mo. to the union of Arthur Dunakey and Minnie (Pinnell) Dunakey and passed away on January 14, 2003 at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center of Rolla, Mo. at the age of 80 years, 3 months and 9 days. On December 23, 1942 he was inducted into the Army of the United States of America and was honorably discharged on December 31, 1945. He served in the Rome Arno, North Appennies and Po Valley Campaigns and was awarded three Bronze Service Star for the above named campaigns and also received the Good Conduct Medal. On November 27, 1948 James was united in marriage to Lucille Licklider. Two sons, Michael and Curtis, and four daughters, Patsy, Theasa, Hazel, and Sandra were born to this union. Lucille preceded James in death on October 30, 1999. He was also preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Joe, Ed, Charlie and Ben Dunakey and five sisters, Mary Schoonover, Viola Pettus, Julia Brake, Leona Giger and Lillian Woodcock. James was a member of the Cuba Church of Christ and the Rolla VFW Post No. 2025. He retired from the Missouri Highway Department after 27 years of service. Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his two sons Michael Dunakey and wife Vicky and Curtis Dunakey and wife Karen; four daughters Patsy Brumley, Theasa Olsen and husband Tom, Hazel Pearson and Sandra Dunakey; two brothers Leo Dunakey and wife Josephine and Archie Dunakey and wife Hilda; two sisters Lena West and Esther Grimes; seven grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many friends. James was a devoted husband, loving father, brother, grandfather, good friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed. James William Dunakey was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. where funeral services were held on Saturday, January 19, 2003 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Ralph Green officiating. Interment was in the Licklider Cemetery, Cuba, Mo. All arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. Floyd Lynn Moutray Floyd "Red" Lynn Moutray, age 79, a resident of Springfield, Mo., formerly of Aurora, Mo. Floyd passed away December 30, 2002 at 4:25 p.m. in Maranatha Nursing Home in Springfield. He was born on May 8, 1923 in Steelville, Mo. to Sylvester Moutray and May Luck. Altogether his parents raised seven boys and four girls. Floyd was a retired meat cutter from Swift Company. He was a WWII veteran. He proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard from February, 1943, to April, 1946. He was discharged as Seaman First Class. He was married to Madeline King Gist on April 14, 1978. They were married for 22 years until her death on January 17, 2001. Floyd was a very kind and loving man. During many years of Madeline's illness he was not only a loving and kind husband he was her primary caregiver. He will be remembered as a quiet, kind, and private man. Floyd was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Raymond, Harold and Fennel and two sisters, Gladine and Ruth. Floyd is survived by three brothers, Everett (Jake) of St. James, Doyle and Adrian Moutray, both of Steelville, Mo.; two sisters, Clara Gilmore of St. Louis and Madeline West of Leasburg; six step-grandchildren and 15 great step-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Ann Catherine Oliver Ann Catherine Oliver, 88, of Rossmoor, California died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at the Care Center of Rossmoor following a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Mrs. Oliver was a native of St. Louis, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. in 1974. Survivors include her daughter, Margaret Ford of Chicago, Illinois; sons, Paul of Walnut Creek, California, Thomas of South Carolina; sisters, Katherine Denny and Margaret Cozzens of St. Louis, Missouri; brother, Thomas Cozzens of Chicago, Illinois; stepson, Robert (Bobby) Oliver of St. Louis, Missouri; and three grandchildren, and her dear friends Betty and Windell Bryan of Steelville, Missouri. A Catholic prayer service was held on Wednesday, Jan 15 at Twin Chapels Mortuary, 1100 Tennessee St., Vallejo, CA. Inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Mrs. Oliver's memory to your local chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. Norma Orene Vaughan Norma Orene Vaughan nee Wilson was born Wednesday, June 22, 1932, at Steelville, Mo., a daughter of the late Charlie Virgil Wilson and the late Josie Alzada Wilson nee Gilliam. She entered eternal rest Tuesday, January 14, 2003, at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Mo. at the age of 70 years, 6 months and 22 days. In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert Vaughan, and her dear brother Floyd Wilson. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted children Ron Vaughan, and her dear brother Floyd Wilson. Among those who remain to mourn her passing are her devoted children Ron Vaughan of Steelville, Mo. and Linda Weber and husband Bill of Camdenton, Missouri; two brothers, Charles Eugene Wilson and wife Harriet of California, and Lindell Arthur Wilson and wife Norma of St. Louis, Mo.; one sister, Sandy Wolf and husband Mike of Illinois; four grandchildren, Tina, Tonya, Sonya, and Chris; and three great grandchildren, Krista, Britteny, and Brandon; many other loving relatives and friends. Norma Orene Vaughan lay in state 4-8 p.m. Thursday, January 16, 2003, at the Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Mo. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2003, in the Britton Chapel with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. Committal prayers and interment were held in the Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Mo. Serving as pallbearers were Dean Walker, Tony Caringer, Eddie Eldridge, Jeff Eldridge, Chris Turnbough and Chaz Sargent.
