Harold married Helen Damon on April 28, 1955. She passed away December 22, 1996. On September 9, 2000 he married Beverly Jane Scheetz. He was a member of Roman Catholic Church and he was a member of the Knights of Columbus in which he was a Sir Knight, 4th degree Honor guard. Harold was a career veteran with the U.S. Army obtaining the highest enlisted rank of Sergeant Major. He served as an Intelligence Analyst. During his military career, he received The Legion Of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, The Army Commendation Medal, and a Certificate of Achievement for Meritorious Service in connection with the Atomic Energy Tests at Eniwetok. He was a life-member of the Veterans of Foreign War and a member of the local St. James VFW. He was a longtime member of the Rolla Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, Timothy and Loretta Burns; first wife, Helen; one son, Harold J. Burns Jr.; infant daughter; and brother, Gerard Timothy Burns. "Bob" Clardy of Cuba, Missouri was born on Friday, November 3, 1933 to Clarence E. and Louise (Green) Clardy and passed away on Monday, January 16, 2017 at the age of 83 years. Bob proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War Conflict. He was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington when on 30 April 1951 the Army retired Robert D. Clardy from active duty due to injuries. Bob was a charter member of the Meramec Valley DAV Chapter #65. He was a devout member of the Cuba Free Will Baptist Church and you could find Bob at the Cuba Senior Center almost every day of the week. For the last 30 plus years Bob was known as the "Sewing Machine Repair Man." He enjoyed fishing, cooking and putting together puzzles. Bob planted a garden every spring and what he didn't can he would share with everyone. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Louise Clardy; and one infant sister, Bertha Marie Clardy. He also worked for a real estate company in St. James, Missouri. He loved hunting and fishing. He especially loved hunting squirrels and rabbits. He raised beagle dogs for several years. He loved to laugh and to tell stories. Emily Joan Hempe Emily Joan (Miller) Hempe of New Smyrna Beach, Florida (formerly of Cuba, Missouri) was born September 7, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri to Mary and Patrick Daily and passed away January 14, 2017 at the age of 86 years. The family moved to Cuba, Missouri when Emily was a teen. She went to college in Springfield, Missouri and taught school in Crawford County, Missouri. After teaching for three years she moved to St. Louis, Missouri and worked at Lemay Bank. Emily married George J. Hempe on January 3, 1953. Emily moved to Florida for the beautiful warm weather and also to be with most of her family. She was a substitute teacher for the New Smyran Beach Schools, she was very active in her church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she volunteered taking communion to the members that were homebound and also volunteered on the Grief Committee at the church. She was named "Female Volunteer of the Year for NSB" in 1998 and won the award for Resilient from the Women's Lifestyle Magazine's 2004 Spirit Awards. She enjoyed helping her daughter Marcya with her tour company. She enjoyed her travels all over the world. Emily loved to work in her yard, sew for her family and always cooked plenty of good for her family. Emily took care of her mother-in-law, Edna Macy, until her death in 2006. At least twice a year Emily would travel to Missouri to visit her family and friends. She and daughter Maria would enjoy spending time together going to yard sales, resale shopping and helping out in the garden. Perkins of St. James, Missouri was born in Rolla, Missouri on August 13, 1920 to Charles Edward and Bessie Pearl (Loughridge) Perkins and passed away Friday, January 20, 2017 at the age of 96 years. Cordell proudly served his Country in the United States Army during WWII under General George Patton, among the many medals he received, he was also awarded two bronze stars. Cordell married Evelyn (Sue) Gibson on November 12, 1960. Cordell retired from Phelps County Highway Department in 1985, where he drove a truck for many years. He enjoyed playing the guitar and loved the fiddle, banjo and bluegrass music. He enjoyed restoring old cars, and entering them in local car shows. He especially liked to go to Vichy, Missouri to the Ozark Extravaganza where he won many trophies. He was a gun collector, and an avid antique collector. He wasn't always out for a particular item he just loved getting out and searching for "stuff." Cordell was an avid gardener, he loved "knockout" roses, planting a big vegetable garden that he shared with family and friends, he also bought and sold grapes during the grape season. He had a stand at the junction of Hwy. 68 & 8. He enjoyed having that little stand meeting new people.
