Lila Lee Edging
Lila Lee Edging nee Morris of Bourbon, Missouri was born on December 12, 1928
in St. Louis, Missouri to the union of Roy Morris and Alpha Fortune Morris
and passed away on January 29, 2004 at the Missouri Baptist Hospital,
St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 75 years, 1 month and 17 days. On
October 24, 1946 Lila was united in Holy Union to John Edging. He preceded
her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter
Teletha Ann Julian and one sister, Laverne Morris.
Lila was baptized in the Church of Christ, Sullivan, Missouri in 2002.
Her favorite flowers were the wildflowers. When she was a child her father
used to stop on the way home from work and pick wildflowers to bring home
to her mother and his children. Lila loved talking on the phone. She never met
a stranger. She was dedicated to the Lord and loved reading her Bible
scriptures. In the past she enjoyed volunteering at the hospital. She was
loved by many people and never met a stranger. She will be greatly missed.
Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her loving
daughter Cathy Neddemeyer and husband Paul; granddaughter Pamela Lee; a
grandson, James Julian, who was raised like her own son; two brothers,
Larry Morris and wife Johanna and Roy Morris and wife Bonnie; four great
grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Lila Lee Edging nee Morris was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of
Cuba, Missouri where funeral services were held on Saturday, January 31, 2004
at 11 a.m. with minister Ken McDaniels officiating. Interment was in the old
Highgate Cemetery, St. James, Missouri. All arrangements under the direction
of Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Missouri.
Joseph Patrick Fagan
Joseph Patrick Fagan, of Eureka, was born Friday, May 13, 1949 to Ida and
the late Charles Fagan. He passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at the
age of 54 years 8 months and 8 days.
Left to mourn are his wife Linda Fagan, his mother Ida Fagan, a son Kevin
William Fagan and special friend Lindsy "Charlie" Trottier, father and
mother-in-law Frank and Norma Kurz, brother Robert and Judy Fagan, John
and Bernadette Fagan, Mary and Dan Daigle; brother-in-law David Kurz,
Steve and Karen Kurz, Frank and Rosemary Kurz, John and Cheryl Kurz, Tom
and Nora Kurz.
Mr. Fagan was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for over 35 years and
was customer service manager in St. Louis. He also loved the Missouri
outdoors and for 23 years he was co-owner of Fagan's Canoe and Raft Rental
near Steelville. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, January 24 at Kutis
Affton Chapel in Affton, Missouri. The funeral service was at 3 p.m. at the
Kutis Chapel in Affton, Missouri. Cremation followed the final disposition.
Local notification was under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home in
Steelville.
William Fred Hopwood
William Fred Hopwood of Bourbon, Missouri was born on May 19, 1927 near
Bourbon, Missouri to the union of Frank Hopwood and Bertha Enke Hopwood
and passed away on January 26, 2004 at the Missouri Baptist Hospital,
Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 7 days.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, Henry, Charlie,
Lawrence, Herbert, Arthur and Raymond Hopwood and three sisters, Martha
Chapman, Anna McGruder and Aurretta Hopwood.
On October 20, 1951 Fred was united in marriage to Dorothy Ray at Bourbon,
Missouri. Three sons, Eugene, Rick and Russell and three daughters,
Brenda, Sharon and Karen were born to this union. They have been happily
married for 52 years.
On March 19, 1952 Fred was inducted into the United States Marine Corps
and was honorably discharged on March 18, 1954. Fred was employed with
Western Auto for over 20 years. He also partnered in business with his
oldest son, Eugene. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, wood working and especially
gardening. Those who survive to mourn his passing from this life are his
loving wife, Dorothy Hopwood; three sons, Eugene Hopwood and wife Sandy,
Rick Hopwood and Russell Hopwood and wife Lisa; three daughters, Brenda
Courtouise and husband Lonnie, Sharon Hopwood and Karen Flowers and husband
Arnold; 10 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other
relatives and many friends. Fred was a loving, devoted husband, loving father,
grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, good friend to all who knew him and
will be sadly missed.
William Fred Hopwood was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba,
Missouri where funeral services were held on Thursday, January 29, 2004 at
11 a.m. with Rev. Hugh Stogsdill officiating. Pallbearers were Gene Hopwood, Jr.,
Tim Hopwood, Lonnie Courtouise, Jr., Sean Flowers, Christopher Courtouise and
Michael Bunnet. Interment was in the Delhi Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri. All
arrangements were under the direction of the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba,
Missouri.
"Gene" Lloyd Turner
Lloyd William Eugene Turner of Cherryville, Missouri was born on Friday,
April 6, 1956 in St. Louis, Missouri to Jesse Louie Turner and Alpha "Fay"
Cassidy Turner. He passed away suddenly on Monday, January 26, 2004 at
Missouri Baptist Hospital, Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 47 years, 9
months and 20 days.
Gene served his country honorably in the United States Army for a short
time. He later married Sue Gardner on November 4, 1978, in Pastor Glore's
home in Steelville, Missouri and to this union two children were born.
Gene worked as a freight driver for Stubblefield's then owned and operated
T & C Freight. Later on was a logger in the Timber Industry. His hobbies
were deer hunting, playing bingo, attending auctions, visiting friends and
most of all spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Lloyd and Mary Cassidy, uncle
Jimmy Cassidy and nephew Richie White. Those who remain to mourn his passing
are his wife Sue of the home; son Donald Eugene Turner and daughter Susan Fay
Turner, all of Cherryville; his mother Fay Chandler and husband Don; mother-in-
law Peggy Gilliam, all of Cherryville. Sisters Louise Turner of Sullivan,
Missouri, Donna and David Hanks of Steelville, Missouri, Lisa and Heath Wells
of Salem, Missouri. Brother-in-law Ralph and Patti Gilliam of Fairbanks,
Arkansas. Aunts Doris and Glen Snyder of Arkansas, Carol and Harry Evans of
House Springs, Missouri; uncles Lloyd Jr. and Gay Cassidy, Bill Cassidy,
Perry Cassidy, Terry Cassidy, all of Steelville. Special niece Heather White
of Salem, Missouri, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Visitation was Wednesday, January 28, 2004 from 6-9 p.m. at the Hutson Funeral
Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were Thursday, January 29, 2004
at 11 a.m. at the Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Delmar B.
Hutson officiating. Burial at the Keysville Cemetery, Keysville, Missouri.
All arrangements were under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home,
Steelville, Missouri.
Thomas Dale "Tom" Wynn
Thomas Dale "Tom" Wynn was born Friday, October 4, 1946, at Carlinville,
Illinois, a son of the late Raymond Francis "Hammer" Wynn and Martha
Margaret (Hinthorne) Wynn. He entered eternal rest Sunday, January 25, 2004,
at the St. John's Mercy Hospital, Washington, Missouri, at the age of 57 years,
3 months and 21 days.
Tom worked for Crawford County as the Road Maintenance Crew Supervisor. He
later transferred to the Missouri Department of Transportation. Tom
retired from MoDOT. He was involved in several community civic functions.
He was a member of the Steelville Volunteer Fire Department where he
served as Fire Chief for many years. He was also a charter member of the
Steelville Kiwanis Club.
Tom professed his faith in God and Jesus Christ and was baptized at an
early age. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Tom served his country in the military as a member of the United States
Army National Guard. During this time, he was deployed to Honduras and the
Panama Canal Zone. Tom was honorably discharged from the National Guard
after 23 years of faithful and honorable service.
In addition to his mother and father, Tom was preceded in death by a son,
Jason Wynn, and his father-in-law Benton R. Hutcheson. Among those who remain
to mourn his passing are his devoted wife Lynda (Hutcheson) Wynn; two
daughters, Jacqueline Wynn and special friend Alan Thorpe of Rockford, Illinois,
and Janae Wynn of Cuba, Missouri; one son, Justin Wynn and wife Peggy of
Steelville, Missouri; mother-in-law Mary Turnbough and special friend Harvey
Hutson of Cuba, Missouri; the mother of his children, Liz Wynn of Cuba, Missouri
and Evonne Thowbridge of Steelville, Missouri. Three brothers, Don Wynn and wife
Susan of Pilot Knob, Missouri, Fran Wynn and friend Cindy Belvins, of Steelville,
Missouri, Gary Wynn and wife Fayetta of Neosho, Missouri; step-daughter, Shauna
and husband Justin O'Neal of Steelville, Missouri.Brothers-in-law, Calvert
Hutcheson and wife LLez Anne and Joseph Hutcheson and wife Sherry, all of
California; four grandchildren, Shelby, Libby and Kendall Wynn of Steelville,
Missouri and Olivia Thorpe of Rockford, Illinois; nieces, nephews, cousins, other
relatives, and many dear friends.
Thomas Dale Wynn lay in state 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2004, at the
Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were
held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2004 in the Britton Chapel with
Rev. Alan Miles officiating. Mary Jane Bruning read the eulogy. Musical
selections were provided by Danny Gruver and Deloris Bell.
Committal prayers and interment were in the Steelville Cemetery,
Steelville, Missouri. Full military honors were conducted by the Honor
Team from Fort Leonard Wood which included a firing party, the
presentation of the U.S. Flag and the playing of Taps by Harry Eaton from
Sullivan, Missouri. Serving as pallbearers were David Beel, Joe Carney, Earl Clay,
Joe Housewright, Floyd Kitchen and Fran Wynn. Arrangements were under the
direction of the Britton Brothers Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri.
