MO Local Obituaries for the Week of Feb. 5, 2003 Dorothy Sarah Burgess Dorothy Sarah Burgess nee Ransom of St. Louis, Mo., was born on October 10, 1920 in St. Louis, Mo. to the union of Horace Ransom and Ethel (Boyle) Ransom and passed away on February 1, 2003 at her home in St. Louis, Mo. at the age of 82 years, 3 months and 21 days. Dorothy was united in marriage to Benjamin Petroski. One son, Terry, was born to this union. Benjamin preceded Dorothy in death. On May 4, 1945 Dorothy was united in marriage to William D. Burgess at St. Charles, Mo. Three sons, William, Melvin and Richard and one daughter, Patricia, were born to this union. Bill preceded Dorothy in death on July 11, 1990. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her parents and two sons, Melvin and Richard Burgess. Those who survive to mourn her passing from this life are her two sons, Terry Petroski and wife Juanita and Bill Burgess and wife Lora; one daughter, Patricia Burgess and partner Kimberly; nine grandchildren; great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, good friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed. Dorothy Sarah Burgess nee Ransom was in state at the Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. where funeral services were held on Monday, February 3, 2003 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Leroy Nixon officiating. Interment was in Kinder Cemetery, Cuba, Mo. All arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home of Cuba, Mo. Jimmy Dewayne Hibner Jimmy Dewayne Hibner, age 58, a resident of Mooresville, Mo., passed away at Liberty Hospital, Liberty, Mo., on Wednesday, January 29, 2003. He was born on February 17, 1944, the son of Henry and Ella (Hesseltine) Hibner in Steelville, Mo. On September 21, 1962, in Chillicothe, Mo., he married Judy Carol Owens. She survives of the home. He moved to Livingston County Mo., from Bosworth, Mo. in the 1950s, prior to that he lived in Steelville, Mo. He lived in Blue Springs, Mo. from 1973 until 1982. He was a self employed logger and truck driver. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and Indian relic hunting. He is also survived by two sons, Gene Hibner of Meadville, Mo., Billy Joe Hibner of Chillicothe, Mo.; two daughters, Lisa Schroeder of Kearney, Mo., Robbin Schmidt of Blue Springs; two brothers, Raymond Hibner and Willie Hibner, both of Chillicothe, Mo. Four sisters, Elsie Billingsly of Steelville, Mo., Anna Mae Aprill of Higginsville, Mo., Joan Miller of Higginsville, Mo. and Vivian Cummins of Springfield, Illinois. Nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Lloyd and John Hibner, a half-brother, Lawrence Hibner and a nephew, Lloyd Hibner. Services were held at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo., on Saturday, February 1, 2003, at 10:30 a.m. There was a family visitation Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo. Friends came from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday, and from 8 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial was in Wheeling Cemetery, Wheeling, Mo. Arrangements are under the direction of Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo. Richard Stanley James Richard Stanley James was born Tuesday July 12, 1927 at Steelville, Missouri, a son of the late Charles Everett James and Bertha Dierking James and passed away Sunday January 26, 2003 at the Missouri Baptist Medical Center, Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 75 years, 6 months and 14 days. Richard served his country in the U. S. Army of Occupation in Japan during World War II. After being discharged from the Army he was employed at various jobs and in 1949 was employed by Brown Shoe Company in Steelville. He will be remembered as a dedicated worker and supervisor for 35 years. On May 1, 1954, he was united in marriage to Margaret Nausley at First Baptist Church in Sullivan, Missouri. Three children were born to this union, Karen, Kathryn and Richard Roy. His parents, three brothers, George, Elmer and Everett James, one sister, Julia McKinnon and an infant grandson, Joshua Leo Collins, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Margaret of the home in Steelville, Missouri; three children, Karen Collins and husband Bevan of Guisborough, England, Kathryn James of Fairfax, Virginia and Richard R. James and wife Pamela of O'Fallon, Missouri. Four grandchildren, Charles and Stephen Collins and Kristin and Bethany James; one sister Mildred Moutray and husband Adrain and sister-in-law, Emma James all of Steelville, Missouri; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Richard was a member of First Baptist Church, VFW Post #6479, and past member of Steelville Lions Club. He was Cub Master for the Boy Scouts and long time volunteer worker at the Steelville Star. Richard Stanley James lay in state 3-8 p.m. Wednesday January 29, 2003, at the Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Thursday January 30, 2003 in the Britton Chapel with Dr. Cardis Bryan officiating. Vocalist Danny Gruver and pianist Carolyn Hawkins provided musical selections. Committal prayers and interment were in Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri. Graveside military honors were given by presentation of the flag by Don Gumersheimer, commander of VFW Post #6479. Serving as pallbearers were Charles Chipman, Rob Housewright, Terry Jones, Floyd Reed, John Taylor and Bud Vichman. Arrangements were under the direction of Britton Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Gervas J. Overkamp Gervas John Overkamp, 83, of New Florence, Mo., died at 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2003, at his residence in New Florence, Mo. Gervas John Overkamp was born on November 27, 1919, in the Bluffton/Americus area of Montgomery County, Mo. He was a son of Geard John and Clara Lucy Gloe Overkamp. He was married on September 29, 1942, in Hermann, Mo., to Mary Virginia Williams. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Air Force. In early life he was a school bus driver and worked on a riverboat. He was later self-employed as a grain and livestock farmer and truck driver. He hauled gravel and fireclay for many years. He also served as a deputy sheriff of Montgomery County for a number of years and was a John Deere mechanic. He enjoyed the outdoors. He hunted, trapped, and enjoyed trap shooting. He enjoyed dancing, bowling, and playing cards and dominoes. He has been a St. Louis Cardinal fan his entire life. He went to St. Louis Cardinal tryouts in the early 1940's. He has enjoyed watching and following the Cardinals his entire life. He was a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church at Starkenburg, Mo., and was a past-member of the Eagle and Lions Clubs. Mr. Overkamp is survived by his wife, Mary Virginia, of the home in New Florence; by seven children, Jerome Overkamp and his wife, Jacqueline, of New Florence; Ronald Wayne Overkamp and his wife, Marilyn, of Hermann, Mo.; Judy Brennan and her husband, Don, of Cuba, Mo.; Joyce Elaine Worley and her husband, Robert, of New Florence, Mo.; Gail Jean Grennan and her husband, Richard, of Montgomery City, Mo.; David Neal Overkamp and Valerie Powell of Fulton, Mo.; and Randy Overkamp and his wife, Robin, of Montgomery City, Mo. Twenty-one grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. Other survivors, one brother, Norbert Overkamp of New Florence, Mo.; and two sisters, Lucille Devlin of New Florence, Mo.; and Melva Haeberle of Hermann, Mo. Mr. Overkamp was preceded in death by his parents; by a son, Charles Daniel Overkamp; by twin grandsons, Glennon Virgil and Robert Joseph Overkamp; and by four brothers, Frank, Lawrence, Damion, and Vincent Overkamp. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2003, at the Schlanker Funeral Home in Montgomery City, Mo. The Reverend Christopher Cordes officiated and interment was in the New Florence Cemetery. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Schlanker Funeral Home. Serving as casketbearers were Mr. Overkamp's grandsons. Martin A. Schomisch Martin Albert Schomisch of St. Clair, Mo. was born to Clarence Schomisch and Carol Sanderfoot Schomisch on July 6, 1961 in Neenah, Wisconsin. He passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2003 at Missouri Baptist Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. at the age of 41 years, 6 months and 25 days. Martin served his country in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged. On August 19, 1983 he married Sheila Hill in Tulsa, Oklahoma and to this union one son was born. Martin worked for CCX Trucking Co. in building maintenance. His hobbies were fishing, camping, hunting and enjoying the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. Those who remain to mourn his passing are his dear wife Sheila and son Randy James Schomisch of the home; parents Clarence and Carol Schomisch of Bourbon, Missouri; step daughter Deann Frias and husband Mark of Frisco, Texas; step grandson Trevor; brother Steve Schomisch of Tulsa, Oklahoma; sisters Michelle Pettis and husband Johnny of Ft. Worth, Texas, Wanda Green and husband Ed of Pawnee, Oklahoma; brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws Steve Warren of Indiana, Charles Ledbetter and wife Edith of Alabama, Betty Hughes and husband Ken of Florida, Carolyn Ward and husband Maurice of Florida, Donna Serda and husband Butch of Alabama; three nephews, one niece; best friends Stand and Marge Schilling; cousins, many relatives and other friends. Nancy Lee Schondelmeyer Nancy Lee Schondelmeyer, age 82, of Columbia, Missouri and a former resident of Jefferson City, Missouri, died January 27, 2003 at the Bluffs Nursing Home in Columbia, Missouri. She was born June 18, 1920, at Lebanon, Kentucky, to John Lee and Lucy Burns Ward Wade. She was married June 11, 1945, at Lebanon, Kentucky to Raymond A. Schondelmeyer, who preceded her in death April 22, 2000. Mrs. Schondelmeyer was a graduate of Lebanon High School and attended Campbellsville College, Campbellsville, Kentucky. The West States Teachers College, Bowling Green, Kentucky and the University of Missouri-­Extension. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Jefferson City, where she served on many committees within her church. She was a 4­H Club leader and was an active volunteer in the community. Mrs. Schondelmeyer taught elementary school in Kentucky and Missouri for 20 years and then was District Manager for Field Enterprises Educational Corporation/World Book Encyclopedias. She leaves to mourn her two sons, Dr. R. Wade and Martha Schondelmeyer, William R. "Bill" and Terry Schondelmeyer, both of Columbia, Missouri; daughters Pamela and Roger Brown of Ames, Iowa and Patty and Roger Nekula of St. Peters, Missouri. One sister Kathryn and Davie Greenwell of Louisville, Kentucky; nine grandchildren; one step-grandchild and three great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday, January 30 at 3 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson City, Missouri. Rev. Rudolph W. Beard officiating. Interment was in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, January 29 at Buescher Memorial Funeral Home, who was in charge of the arrangements. The Schondelmeyers lived in Steelville for many years where he pastored the Steelville Presbyterian Church. Frankie "Ralph" Thompson Frankie "Ralph" Thompson was born Saturday, December 5, 1914 in Goodwater, Mo. to the late Robert Frank Thompson and Louisa Crocker Thompson and departed this life at the Stonecrest Healthcare Nursing Home in Viburnum, Mo., Thursday, January 30, 2003 at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 25 days. Ralph married Edith Mincher on August 6, 1938 in Goodwater, Mo. and to this union three children were born. Ralph worked as a tree trimmer for Shade Tree Services for many years; he also worked in St. Louis at the Independent Swiss Meatpacking Company. Ralph began a large horse and mule operation in 1959 in Belgrade, Mo. and sold and traded throughout the are until retirement. Ralph accepted the Lord at an early age and rededicated his life to the Lord in 1989 and attended the Potosi Church of Christ as long as his health permitted. Ralph was a member of the Ozark Trail Blazers, and the Washington County Coon Hunters Association; he enjoyed raising horses, hunting, and spending time with his family. Ralph was preceded in death by five brothers, Lloyd, Roy, Paul, and infant George Ray; one sister Glorena Mayberry, two grandsons David and Raja Thompson, and one great granddaughter Mallory Lee Webster. Those who remain to mourn his passing are his loving wife Edith Thompson of Viburnum, Mo.; his children Freda Parrett and husband Paul of Nashville, Tennessee; Jim Thompson and wife Fern of Davisville, Mo.; and Allen Thompson and wife Linda of Fenton, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren. One brother, Leonard Thompson, of Salem, Mo.; and one sister, Mae Kline, of Belle, Mo.; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends all who will fondly remember and sadly miss Frankie "Ralph" Thompson. Visitation was held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, January 31, 2003 at the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville, Mo. Funeral service was held Saturday, February 1, 2003 at the Hutson Funeral Chapel in Steelville, Mo. with Pastor George Civey officiating. Pallbearers were Dan Thompson, Tom Smith, Charlie Kline, Scott Parrett, Eric Thompson, and Sheldon Webster. Lindell Arthur Wilson Lindell Arthur Wilson was born Monday July 22, 1918 at Steelville, Missouri, a son of the late Charlie Virgil Wilson and Josie Alzada Gilliam Wilson. He entered eternal life Sunday, January 26, 2003, at the DePaul Community Health Center, Bridgeton, Missouri, at the age of 84 years, 6 months and 4 days. He was a graduate of Steelville High School, a member of the class of 1939. On Saturday July 19, 1941, at Waynesville, Missouri, Lindell was secretly married to Norma E. Condray, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Condray, of Salem, Missouri. One son, Larry was born to this union. They have enjoyed over 61 years together. Lindell served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, during which time he received the Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon. He was a member of Lake St. Louis Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for many years. He was also a member of AFL-CIO Tool and Die Union. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Floyd "Hoot" Wilson and one sister, Norma Orene Vaughan. Among those who remain to mourn his passing are his wife Norma E. Wilson of St. Louis, Missouri; their son, Larry Wilson and wife Janice of St. Louis, Missouri; one brother, Charles Eugene Wilson and wife Harriet of California; one grandson, Larry A. Wilson, Jr. of St. Louis, Missouri; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Lindell Arthur Wilson lay in state 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday January 30, 2003, at the Britton Bros. Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Thursday, January 30, 2003, in the Britton Chapel with Dr. Cardis Bryan officiating. Committal prayers and interment were in Steelville Cemetery, Steelville, Missouri. Pallbearers were Ron Condary, Steve Eads, Ken Halbert, David Hedrick, Bob Schaffer and Ron Vaughan.
