operations against the enemy on Leyte on October 25, 1944. When an enemy
counter-attack forced an amphibian tank unit to retire to a new position,
it was necessary to abandon three immobilized vehicles. When the area was
recaptured, Private Coleman volunteered to go forward with a party to
recover the disabled tanks.
Although subjected to enemy artillery and mortar fire, he and his comrades

traditions of the military service."
