On October 11, 1951 in Piggott, Arkansas, she was united in marriage to J.W. Frances Barnes. Marilyn always enjoyed fishing, camping and playing Bingo. She was preceded in death by her parents, Orbra and Lora Cook; her husband, J.W. Barnes in 1997; two brothers, Melvin Eugene Hamilton and Donald Lee Cook; brother and sisters-in-law, J.B. Barnes, Fannie Barnes, Gertrude Cunningham, Addie Johnson and Alma Jewell. She is survived by one son, Jay W. Barnes and wife Pamela of Sullivan, Missouri; two daughters, Belinda Halbert and husband Tom of Potosi, Missouri and Betty Chandler and husband Randy of St. James, Missouri; nine grand- children; 11 great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Zenzie Rulo of Popular Bluff, Missouri and Shirley Drake and husband John of Potosi, Missouri; other relatives and friends. A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2012 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. Special music of “Beulah Land”, “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” and “Amazing Grace” was played. Committal prayer and interment were in the Steelville Cemetery. Britton of Cuba, Missouri was born to James E. and Etta (Holtz) Britton on March 12, 1927 in Iron County, Missouri and passed away Monday, January 30, 2012 at his home at the age of 84 years. John was united in marriage to Celia Ann Lee on November 2, 1953. John was a logger all of his life, having operated the John Britton & Sons Logging Company. At a young age he traveled and helped with Logging Camps and later in life helped build Indian Hills Lake in Cuba. In his spare time he enjoyed horses, western movies, country music and spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James E. and Etta Britton; one son, Johnny Edward Britton; six brothers and sisters, Daisy Volner, Molly Watson, Ernest, Jack and Lydia Britton and Leona Dunham. Dickens of St. Joseph, Missouri, was born on August 23, 1928, in Dixon, Missouri, to Garrett Charles and Edna (Reagan) Dickens and passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at Cameron Veterans Home, Cameron, Missouri at the age of 83 years. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Following the service, he worked for Farmers Insurance Group as an agent and as District Manager. He was a member of McCarthy Baptist Church, Sunrise Optimist Club and American Legion Post 359. Carl married Shirley D. Jacques on December 24, 1950 in Dixon, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Garrett and Edna Dickens; wife, Shirley on August 30, 2002; and an infant brother, Louie Russell Dickens. He is survived by his son, Larry D. Mamie Mary Fanger Mamie Mary Fanger of St. James, Missouri was born in Hinkle, Missouri on February 18, 1917 to Ben and Ola (Hughs) Gross and passed away at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Missouri on Monday, January 30, 2012 at the age of 94 years, 11 months and 12 days. On July 19, 1932 Mamie was united in marriage to Leo Fanger in Phelps County, Missouri. Mamie helped her husband Leo farm on their cattle farm for many years. Mamie also raised chickens on the farm. She loved to can vegetables out of her garden and also to can fruits. She was an avid seamstress; made her own patterns. She love to do crafts, afghans and to quilt. Mamie worked at the Shoe Factory in Rolla, Missouri for several years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Fanger; parents, Ben and Ola Gross; granddaughter, Brenda Happel; one infant; and one sister, Daisey Thomas. She is survived by four daughters, Grace Engelmeier and husband Mel of St. James, Missouri, Irene Gorman and husband Louis of St. James, Missouri, Mary Stotler and husband Bill of St. James, Missouri and Betty Happel and husband Pete of College Place, Washington; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and eight great great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends. Gruver of Steelville, Missouri was born June 11, 1944 in Steelville, Missouri to Fred and Hazel (Satterlee) Gruver and passed away January 31, 2012 in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 67 years. David was united in marriage to Clara Jaycox in 1965, and to this union two children were born. David was very close with his family he loved every moment he was able to spend with family and friends. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially when hunting and fishing in clear Ozark streams. He closely followed sports and enjoyed playing them as well. David had a great passion for helping others he truly enjoyed mowing the lawn for the church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Hazel Gruver; and one brother, Danny Gruver. William Monroe “Bill” Hogue William Monroe “Bill” Hogue of Monroeville, Ohio, formerly of Steelville, Missouri was born on Sunday, May 18, 1941 to Everett and Frances Sullivan Hogue in Cook Station, Missouri and passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at the age of 70 years, 8 months and 11 days. Bill attended elementary school at Cook Station, Missouri and graduated from Steelville High School in 1958. After graduation he worked at Brown Shoe Company and Jack’s 66 until he moved to California in 1962. He worked at General Motors in California for 8 years and in 1972 started to work in the Motion Picture Industry where he retired from in 2007. He worked for all of the major motion picture studios including Fox, Universal and Warner Brothers. He worked on “Ghost,” “Terminator 2,” “Love Field,” “Twice in a Lifetime,” “Mississippi Burning,” “Primary Colors” and many more movies. He was a personal driver for Jacklyn Smith in Charlie’s Angels and his last show was “Malcolm in the Middle” until it closed production. He was on the General Motors Trap Shooting Team where he won many trophies and was invited to shoot in the Celebrities Showdown on several occasions. He was a long time member of the NRA. He attended NASCAR races at every opportunity and also two classes at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Shortly before his death he donated his collection of approximately 1000 die cast NASCARS to the Peterson Museum in Los Angeles, CA. Bill loved Southern California and lived there for almost 50 years until which time it became necessary, because of his health to move to Ohio to live with his sister. He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Frances Hogue; brother, Harold Gene Hogue; brothers-in-law, Thomas Buckingham and Gerald Eaker; nephew, Ricky Hogue and great nephew, Daniel Hogue. Margaret was a clerk and worked for the St. Louis County Clerks Office in St. Louis, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Agnes Redel; her husband, Richard Muncy Jones on October 28, 1975; one daughter, Barbara Jones Krabbe, five brothers, Peter Owen Redel, John Jerome Redel, Corneilus Redel, Adrian Redel and George Redel; two sisters, Kathlene G. James Clevie Palmer James Clevie Palmer of Salem, Missouri was born in Coffee County, Alabama August 5, 1931 to Clevie and Hettie (Johnson) Palmer and passed away January 29, 2012 in Columbia, Missouri at the age of 80 years. James proudly served 22 years in the United States Army serving as a Medical Tech in the Korean Conflict and then served two tours in Vietnam for the United States Army Special Forces, also known as the Green Berets. James was a highly decorated soldier who was also awarded a Purple Heart, he was a Life Member of the Special Forces, Life member of The Purple Heart Association, and a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans. After serving his country, James went back to Biloxi, Mississippi and went to school and earned his degree in nursing as a Registered Nurse; he then moved to Topeka, Kansas to be close to his children. It was while working in a hospital in Topeka that he met fellow nurse Maxine Cowser, they married June 23, 1981. He and Maxine moved back to the Biloxi where they both worked at the VA hospital. James and Maxine found 60 acres in Missouri between St. James and Salem, where they built a home. James loved to garden so much that he had two huge gardens and a green house that he had built himself where he could start his plants from seed to set out when it came time. James was also a collector of “big-boy” toys, and boy did he love that tractor! James was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in St. James, and thanked the Lord everyday for all the blessings that had been bestowed upon he and Maxine. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clevie and Hettie Palmer and his brother, Gerald Palmer. He is survived by his wife Maxine of the home; children, Jimmy Palmer and wife Renate of Darlington, Florida, Steven Palmer and wife Barbara of Gainesville, Florida, Robin Clement and husband Charles of Bonner Springs, Kansas, Cindy Dillard of Shawnee Mission, Kansas, David Cowser and wife JoAnna of Topeka, Kansas; sisters, Juanita McCall of Winterhaven, Florida and Alice McClain of Avon Park, Florida; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Stephens, nee Jackson, 54 of Belleville, Illinois formerly of Cahokia, Illinois was born Friday, October 11, 1957 in St. Louis, Missouri and passed away Sunday, January 29, 2012 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri. On April 14, 1979 she was united in marriage to Michael Allen Stephens at the Maplewood Church of Christ in Cahokia, Illinois. They later moved to Wesco, Missouri and she taught at Steelville R-III Schools from 1980-1985. She and Mary Clay were best of friends and had their sons the same year. The Stephens family moved to Cahokia, and Janice taught middle school in North St. Louis for many years, before she was employed by the Cahokia School District, No. 187 as a teach for Morris Elementary School. She was the first Cahokia teacher to be National Board Certified, and was a member of the Cahokia Federation of Teachers. She was proceeded in death by her father, Floyd Jackson. She is survived by her husband, Michael Stephens; three sons, Andrew, Scott and Nicholas Stephens, all of the home; her mother Nadine Jackson of Cahokia; her father-in-law, Richard Stephens; mother-in-law, Bonnie (Larry) Turnbough; sister-in-law, Pamela Stephens (Michael Westermayer) of Robertsville, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
