Hugh Edward Doane
Hugh Edward Doane of St. Clair, Missouri was born in Mountain Grove,
Missouri on November 6, 1930 to Herbert Francis and Katie (nee Nichol)
Doane and passed away on January 31, 2014 at the age of 83 years,
2 months and 25 days.
On July 27, 1973 he was united in marriage to Carol Lee Donavan, nee
Fehlenberg, and one daughter came to bless this union and he loved
her sons as his own.
Hugh proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the
Korean War. He enlisted on December 28, 1950 and was honorably
discharged on November 3, 1954, having attained the rank of RD2.
After his discharge he pursued his education and attained a Master’s
Degree in High School and Special Education.
He taught in the St. Louis Public School system, teaching not only
in St Louis’ Special School District for 20 years but also in the
school system’s Technical Division. Hugh was a proud member of the
Missouri Retired Teachers Association.
Hugh had a variety of interests throughout his life but he was
passionate about art. He was very talented at painting, sculpting
and woodcarving. Gardening was another of his hobbies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Katie Doane;
one son, Brian Donovan; two brothers, Herbert N. Doane and James A.
Doane; two sisters, Theda C. Miller and Lela Hansen; and one
grandchild, Joshua Donovan.
He is survived by two children, Cynthia Blythe and husband Jeff of
Sullivan, Missouri and Shawn Donovan of Bourbon, Missouri; one
sister, Mary A. Littrell and husband George of Sullivan, Missouri;
eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; other relatives and
friends.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday,
February 6, 2014 at Sunset Memorial Park in St. Louis, Missouri
with the Rev. Ron Knapp officiating.
Arrangements under the direction of the Russell Colonial Funeral
Home in St. Clair, Missouri.
Leatha Virginia Frances Dotson
Leatha Virginia Frances Dotson of Owensville, Missouri was born in
Owensville, Missouri on August 22, 1936 to August John and Edith
Mamie (Feldmiller) Schmiedeskamp and passed away Friday,
February 7, 2014 at the age of 77 years.
On June 16, 1951 in Arkansas she was united in marriage to
Charles D. Dotson.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Schmiedeskamp.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; daughter, Charlotte Pinnell
and husband Donald of Cuba, Missouri; brothers, Bob Schmiedeskamp and
wife Nadine of Rolla, Missouri and Harlan Schmiedeskamp and wife Mary
of Owensville, Missouri; sister, Barbara Farris and husband Earl of
Owensville, Missouri; grandchildren, Daniel, Roger and Anna Pinnell;
great grandchildren, Olivia and Wyatt Pinnell; other relatives and
friends.
Funeral services were held on Monday, February 10, 2014 at the
Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville, Missouri with
Rev. Jackie Asher officiating.
Burial was in the Countryside Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements under the direction of the Gottenstroeter Funeral Home
in Owensville, Missouri.
Bernard R. “Ben” Grogan
Bernard R. “Ben” Grogan of Cuba, Missouri was born on Tuesday,
May 19, 1931 in Salem, Missouri to Jeffie and Lizzie Pewitt Grogan
and passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the age of 82 years,
8 months and 16 days.
Ben served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corp.
during the Korean War and also was a part of the A-bomb testing in
Nevada.
He married Alice Senf on October 26, 1963 in St. Louis, Missouri.
He worked for the Brown Shoe Company in St. Louis, Missouri as a
shipping clerk for 26 years. He later was a forklift operator at
Westinghouse Company for six years. He was a member of the Temple
Baptist Church, Sullivan, Missouri. During his retirement years,
Ben had a lawn service that he thoroughly enjoyed and was very
dedicated until he was 80 years old. He also attended auto
racing events and listened to his police scanner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeffie and Lizzzie Grogan;
sister-in-law, Lorene Gray Grogan and brother-in-law, Al Senf.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Senf Grogan of Cuba, Missouri;
sons, Paul (Betty Lou) Grogan of Springfield, Missouri, Guy (Connie)
Grogan of Elkland, Missouri and Bill Grogan of Springfield, Missouri;
brother, Darrell Grogan of Salem, Missouri; sister-in-law, Mary
(David) Rice of Marathon, Florida; brother-in-law, Richard (Marilyn)
Senf of St. Louis, Missouri; six grandchildren; nine great grand-
children; other relatives and friends.
Funeral service was Friday, February 7, 2014 at 11 a.m. with Pastor
Scott Perry and Pastor Bob Knight officiating with full military
honors.
Burial was at the Dry Fork Baptist Cemetery, Salem, MO.

Missouri.
Xaine Kyrin Hoke
Xaine Kyrin Hoke passed away minutes after his pre-mature birth at
the Phelps Regional Medical Center, Rolla Missouri on
January 31, 2014.
He was preceded in death by his great grandfathers, Elmer Evans and
Bernell Crocker.
He is survived by his parents, Dillen Hoke and Rachel Black of
Steelville, Missouri; grandparents, Timothy Hoke of Cuba Missouri,
Chantell Evans of Steelville Missouri and Billy and Susan (Crocker)
Black of Cherryville, Missouri; great grandparents, Fay Evans of
Steelville Missouri, Barry and Betty Evans of Steelville, Missouri,
Bill and Geraldine Black of Cherryville, Missouri and Marcella
Crocker of Black Missouri; aunts and uncles, Chelsea and Kyle
Hendrix of Cherryville, Missouri, Jennifer Black, Emily Black and
Abby Black, all of Cherryville, Missouri, Betty Evans of Steelville
Missouri and Timothy Jr. and Shane Hoke of Cuba, Missouri; other
relatives and friends.
Funeral service was at 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at the
Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri with Rev. Donald Mitchell
officiating.
Burial was at the Martin-Trask Cemetery in Cherryville, Missouri.
Arrangements under the direction of the Hutson Funeral Home,
Steelville, Missouri.
Ava E. Hoevelman
Ava E. Hoevelman of Leasburg, Missouri was born on August 16, 1917
at Bourbon, Missouri to Charles Amos and Nelva Lillian (Bacon)
Reed, Sr. and passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at age of 96
years, 5 months and 19 days.
She had lived the majority of her life in the Sullivan and Bourbon
areas and in later years, moved to Leasburg, Missouri.
She was a 30-year employee of the former International Shoe Company
in Sullivan, Missouri and later owned and operated a restaurant in
Cuba, Missouri. Ava was also the manager of the restaurant at
Onondaga Cave and a cook at the former Out Post Restaurant in
Leasburg and later at the former Hen House in Bourbon, Missouri.
On February 14, 1948 she was united in marriage to Florenz (Jack)
Hoevelman at Grace United Methodist Church in Sullivan, Missouri.
In her retirement years, Ava had volunteered at various nursing
homes and Health Care Facilities in the area. She enjoyed reading,
especially poems and working jigsaw puzzles, and quilting. Shewas a
lover of all animals great and small.
She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Leasburg,
Missouri, and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary of
Sullivan, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Cuba, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and
Nelva Reed, Sr.; and a brother, Charles Amos Reed, Jr.
She is survived by a sister, Sharon Lambing and husband Joe of Bourbon,
Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Saturday, February 8, 2014 from 9-11 a.m. at
the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday,
February 8, 2014 from the Chapel of the Eaton Funeral Home in
Sullivan, Missouri with Pastors Terry King and Mike Potter officiating.
Interment was in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Sullivan, Missouri.
Arrangements under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Home in
Sullivan, Missouri.
Larry Lesley Laney
Larry Lesley Laney of Steelville, Missouri was born December 8, 1928
to Winfield and Daisy (DuLaney) Laney in Wesco, Missouri and passed
away Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the age of 85 years.
He graduated from Steelville High School. He joined the US Army and
served in Korea. While in the Army he played trombone in the Army
Band and was a member of the Army softball team.
After service he married Billie J. Lamb in 1951.
Upon his return to Steelville he continued to very active in area
softball leagues. He was a left-handed pitcher and it has been said
he had one of the best windmill fastballs ever seen. Larry was
scouted by the St. Louis Cardinals but chose to stay in Steelville
with his young family.
Larry was an avid bowler and active in several leagues, competing in
local, state, regional and national tournaments. He served on the
Board of Director of the Missouri South Central Bowling Association
and was inducted into the MSCBA Hall of Fame in 2002.
He was a mail carrier for the US Postal Service and retired after
35 years in 1984. Along with good friends Art and Sue Howald, he
and Billie built and owned the H&L Laundramat and Drycleaners in
1966 until it sold in 1980.
Larry enjoyed traveling, fishing, hunting, woodworking, building
furniture. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Steelville,
participating in the Christmas Is Sharing program and also catching
and providing fish for the church-wide fish fries.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Winfield and Daisy Laney;
wife, Billie J. Laney in 2003; siblings, Elba Lee Lamar, Winfield
Noel Laney, Alma Gene Mullen and Varley Laney and grandson, Jeremy
Laney White.
He is survived by two daughters, Lesley and husband Jim White of
St. James, Missouri and Lisa and husband Greg Story of Rolla,
Missouri; four grandchildren, Rachel J. White of Rolla, Missouri,
Zachary J. White and wife Ashley of Springfield, Missouri, Emily
Nicholas and husband James of Rolla, Missouri and Leanna Story of
Columbia, Missouri; five great grandchildren, Sage, Cole and Oen
Nicholas, Sterling White and Elijah Laney White with sixth great
grandchild, Finnegan Laney White, expected in May; other relatives
and friends.
Burial was next to his wife in the Steelville Cemetery, Steelville,
Missouri.
Due to inclement weather, a memorial service will be held at a
future date.
Lucille L. McLain
Lucille L. McLain, nee Wohlschlaeger, of Cuba, Missouri, formerly of
South St. Louis County, was born to Robert C. and Lena (Glenz)
Wohlschlaeger on September 14, 1914 in St. Louis, Missouri and
passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at the age of 99 years.
Lucille was a homemaker most of her life, always taking care of her
family and home. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, baking cakes, pies
and spending time with her family.
Lucille was a lifelong member of St. Johns Evangelical United Church
of Christ in Mehlville, Missouri. Shewas christened in St. Johns
Evangelical and Reformed Church in 1914 by Rev. J.W. Gaebe. She
recited her Confirmation verse Jeremiah 31:3 on Palm Sunday,
April 1, 1928, at St. Johns E&R Church.
Lucille married Paul D. McLain on Sunday, June 30, 1940, in
St. Johns E&R Church with the Rev. A.F. Alberswerth presiding.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lena
Wohlschlaeger; husband, Paul D. McLain; four brothers, Rob, Rowland,
Richard and Russell Wohlschlaeger; three sisters, Loretta
Wohlschlaeger, Viola Webelhuth and Martha Berger.
She is survived by her three children, Gerald and wife Janet McLain
of Cuba, Missouri, Joyce and husband Roger Coombs of Theodosia,
Missouri, Sandra and husband Richard Lenz of Nashville, Tennessee;
eight grandchildren, David (Tammy) McLain, Monica (Fran) Godat,
April (Clayton) Thebeau, James (Kimberly) Coombs, Jennifer (Michael)
Williams, Julia (Scott) Steinbrueck, Christina (William) Harryman
and Katherine (Gregory) Watts; great grandchildren; other relatives
and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday,
March 22, 2014 11:00 a.m. at St. Johns Evangelical United Church of
Christ 11333 St. Johns Church Rd. (I-55 at Lindbergh Blvd.)
St. Louis, Missouri.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014 10:30 a.m. until
time of service.
Lucille’s cremated remains will be interred next to her husband Paul
at Old St. Johns Evangelical United Church of Christ Cemetery.
Arrangements under the direction of the Mizell Funeral Home of Cuba,
Missouri.
Norma Jean Peugh
Norma Jean Peugh, nee Johnson, of Bourbon, Missouri was born at Lemay,
Missouri on December 29, 1935 to William Paul and Tommie Carlton
(Holt) Johnson and passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the age of
78 years, 1 month and 3 days.
She was raised in Lemay and later graduated high school from Hancock
High School. She loved music and sang in the National Chorus while
attending college and in her church. Her major focus was vocal and
piano. Norma was employed in federal jobs throughout her life, which
included working as a secretary for the FBI, working in the
Department of Agriculture, Department of Defense Mapping and lastly
retiring in 1996 as an examiner for the IRS.
On August 2, 1958 she was united in marriage to Delbert D. Peugh at
Lemay, Missouri and to this union a daughter was born.
She and Delbert moved to the Bourbon area in 1999. She was a lover
of all animals and enjoyed horseback riding and flower gardening.
She was also known to have a sense of humor and was a member of
Bourbon Assembly of God.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Tommie Johnson;
and a brother Roger Johnson.
She is survived by her husband, Delbert D. Peugh of the family home;
one daughter, Rene’ Whitcraft and husband Charlie of Bourbon,
Missouri; a brother, Wayne Johnson of Elizabeth, Colorado; three
grandchildren, Elliot Whitcraft, Elaine Scheid and David Whitcraft;
two great grandchildren, Haley Whitcraft and Charley May Scheid;
other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at
the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri.
Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday,
February 7, 2014 from the Eaton Funeral Home in Sullivan, Missouri
with Pastor Harold Harrison officiating.
Interment was in Bourbon Cemetery.
Arrangements under the direction of the Eaton Funeral Home in
Sullivan, Missouri.
Daniel G. Reinken
Daniel G. Reinken of Steelville, Missouri was born August 8, 1961 to
Robert Conrad and Eleanor Clara Aubuchon Reinken and passed away
Thursday, February 6, 2014 in Festus, Missouri at the age of
52 years.
Daniel enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Eleanor Reinken;
and two brothers, Timothy and Gerald Reinken.
He is survived by his three brothers, John Reinken of Potosi,
Missouri, Robert Reinken and wife Kathy of Oakville, Missouri and
Allen Reinken of High Ridge, Missouri; two sisters, Sandra Nickles
of Festus, Missouri and Debbie Fernow and husband Thomas of Gerald,
Missouri; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2014
at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri.
Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2014
at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with
Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. Special music of “How Great Thou
Art,” “Danny Boy,” “Back Home Again,” and “She Thinks My Tractor’s
Sexy” was played.
Committal prayer and burial were in the Steelville Cemetery.
Casket bearers were family members.
